It's fitting that my 10,000th post comes today, on the last day at my job. I still remember when I stumbled onto this place, bored out of my skull between the end of new hire training and my first project work. That time span went on for about a month where I had almost nothing to do.

While searching for Met forums I found this place after a few disgusting tours of fora like nymets.com (where there are no elitists who would ever use the word fora). Found it, and by my third post was in the middle of a fairly strong argument with The Big Train (whatever happened to that clown?) about Mr. Benitez. I flew through Jim and whoever the first few posting levels were in about half an hour, while a game was going on.

I was nervous that I would get booted out of this place, the only sports message board I have ever been to where there are no morons, and the first and only message board where I became a regular poster. I behaved like a weenie for a while, trying to be overly nice and not pressing my side of an argument. What someone said to Steve a few months ago rings true for me, don't be a weenie when you post or change the way you act to try to ingratiate yourself to the masses. I've learned that and have had fun here whereas otherwise I'd be losing my mind in between projects. (And I am proud to say that I've acted like a jerk at some point or another towards probably everyone on this forum)

Two and a half years later you can tell by my posting history that I often found time during the workday with nothing to do, but I think that's coming to an end as I start my new job on Monday. I always kind of looked down on people who made long-winded goodbye posts, not understanding that a message board is a community in and of itself. But that's not what this is, anyway. I'll still be here in the evenings and on the weekends, it's just the days where I posted 100 messages during work hours are over (Hopefully not too many people are delighted to hear that.) This isn't a goodbye post, but a thank you post to everyone who has posted here, even the peeps who don't get along with me. This board kept me alive during the initial stages of my career, and I think it's appropriate to acknowledge it as I move on in my career and reach Seaverdom.

So that's it. I'll go back to being a weenie for this one post and let you all know that this is the most impressive group of random strangers I've ever had the privilege of interacting with. Thanks. Go Mets.

And I'll see you tonight during the game.

HOLY FUCKING CRAP!!! I'M TOM SEAVER!!!!!!!!

Wow - fabulous post Elster.

Yeah, you've probably been a jerk to everyone here at one time or another. OTOH, I've always loved the fact that you keep an open mind about things and can laugh at yourself when the tables are turned. You're a definite asset to the board, and I enjoy your input immensely.

Hail!

Great post, and very true. This place is truly unlike any other sports forum I've ever seen.

And, UltramegaSeaverHail

Nice post, and good luck.

I'm pretty much a moron, so there's at least one ... c'mon you other

As a moron, I'm personally offended by the slight in Elster's post.

Great post, Elster.

Elster, good luck on your new job and for crying out loud, don't be a stranger; you're one of my favorites.

I get more laughs out of you than I can count.

Congrats on Seaver status!

I just want to let everyone know that I think everyone here sucks and that I plan on continuing to post at my current pace.

I'm like the anti-Elster.

Best of luck in the new job.

For the record, I don't consider myself a moron. I'm more of a dumb ass, at least that's what my friends keep telling me.
