Paul LoDuca hit his first home run since May 13th to stake the Mets to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and Tom Glavine flashed the winning form from earlier in the spring. Still, the Mets fell to the Nationals despite the promising start. Billy Traber, a former first round draft pick (2000) of the Mets, baffled the Mets hitters with an array of soft toss pitches. He kept the Mets off stride and off base for most of the contest.
