It's not that easy bein' green Having to spend each day the color of the leaves When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold Or something much more colorful like that It's not easy bein' green It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water Or stars in the sky But green's the color of Spring And green can be cool and friendly-like And green can be big like an ocean Or important like a mountain Or tall like a tree When green is all there is to be It could make you wonder why But why wonder, why wonder? I am green and it'll do fine It's beautiful! And I think it's what I want to be |

Raining at Shea, there's going to be a little delay.

Appropriate that I used a swamp dweller's song!

They will play this one unless absolutely impossible. There is no room in the schedule whatsoever for a makeup.

Will this game REALLY matter? Game 7 in the LCS? Mets are 10 games up (or around there anyway) Pick this up on October 2nd?
Gwreck Aug 24 2006 07:00 PM |
Cardinals are in a tight division race. I'm guessing this game matters quite a bit to Cincinatti.
SteveJRogers Aug 24 2006 07:07 PM |

Oooooh right, right right...

Thing I should have said a week ago Saturday: "Maybe its their way of getting Bannister back healthy, throw a day for him!" Ouch, Castro is done for the year then?
seawolf17 Aug 24 2006 07:12 PM |
Any mention of who's no longer on the active roster?
Gwreck Aug 24 2006 07:14 PM |
Yes, Castro is done for the year. According to the Mets.com roster, Ledee is gone.

7 lefty swingers (including the switchies) going against Marquis de Card tonight.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 07:44 PM |
Taguchi singles with one out and promptly steals second.
Johnny Dickshot Aug 24 2006 07:48 PM |
Attaboy, Dave Williams.

Encarnacion just misses making what would have been a great catch, and Reyes is on first with a leadoff single.
A Boy Named Seo Aug 24 2006 07:52 PM |
I love the socks on the Marquis de Suck. Staying with fashion, I've become really keen on the snow white uni's and the two-tone crazy helmet. I think it looks great.

Reyes's bloop is one that Edmonds sucks up easily.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 07:54 PM |
LoDuca is HBP. Runners on first and second, nobody out.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 07:56 PM |
Beltran pops up for the first out.
OlerudOwned Aug 24 2006 07:56 PM |
The two-tone helmet makes me want to cry. But Marquis' stirrups are kickin'. Marquis is pretty cool, a Staten Island fella like myself. Met him once, he seemed cool. Glad he's out of Atlanta.
OlerudOwned Aug 24 2006 07:59 PM |
Ah sucks.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 07:59 PM |
Crap - Delgado hits into a DP to end the inning :(
Frayed Knot Aug 24 2006 08:01 PM |
ESPN2 is being blacked out on my system -- which I assume means that his game is being televised by them nationally for any of you out-of-towners who are normally shut out.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:05 PM |
Maine pitches a nice 1-2-3 second.
metirish Aug 24 2006 08:07 PM |
SK that's Willimas pitching.
OlerudOwned Aug 24 2006 08:07 PM |

Maine's so good he can strike guys out with his mind. Dave Williams is just his puppet.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:10 PM |
Thank you Irish. Sheesh - I am scattered today! Green's first at-bat results in a sharply hit DP ball :(
Zvon Aug 24 2006 08:15 PM |
That was some hard luck on a well hit ball. Wright hung himself out to dry--- Two double plays aid Marquis thru the 1st two.
Frayed Knot Aug 24 2006 08:16 PM |
Green's stance is much more open than I remember it from earlier in his career.
Frayed Knot Aug 24 2006 08:22 PM |
Williams has a nice swing but he bails out something awful.
Zvon Aug 24 2006 08:24 PM |
Yea--but he just worked an 11 pitch at bat off Marquis. Ended up striking out but- ya gotta like that.
Hillbilly Aug 24 2006 08:25 PM |
Reyes swipes his 53.
Zvon Aug 24 2006 08:26 PM |
thank you Preston Wilson!
Hillbilly Aug 24 2006 08:27 PM |
sleezy drives him in with a 3 bagger that Preston Wilson miss plays!
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:27 PM |
Closet Wheels! LoDuca triples (with a little help from Mookie's kid) and Reyes scores on the play! 1-0 Mets!
Zvon Aug 24 2006 08:27 PM |
Preston gives up a triple to LoDuca---u see those lil stubby legs truckin around the bases?
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:32 PM |
Wright gets an RBI sac fly (and misses a grand slam by about a foot or two).
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:33 PM |
Shawn Green gets his first RBI as a Met! 3-0 Mets :)
Frayed Knot Aug 24 2006 08:34 PM |
Thought Davey-boy had one there ... settles for the sac fly.
Zvon Aug 24 2006 08:34 PM |
LoDuca tags off a deep drive to right by Wright.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 08:45 PM |
Mr. Wright makes a NICE play to end the top of the 4th :)
Johnny Dickshot Aug 24 2006 08:53 PM |
Not to damn with faint praise, but Michael Tucker hasn't yet hit the ball as hard as Green has in either of his turns tonight.
OlerudOwned Aug 24 2006 08:56 PM |
Oh Son of an Assenmacher.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 09:02 PM |

A quick sixth for both clubs.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 09:34 PM |
He doesn't make it. Bert comes in with one out and runners on second and third.
Johnny Dickshot Aug 24 2006 09:36 PM |
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 09:37 PM |
A nice play by Wright and a nice K gets us to the 7th inning stretch unscathed!
Zvon Aug 24 2006 09:37 PM |
Omar and the Cards GM havin a lil pow-wow up in his box--mmm, interesting.

Edgy DC Aug 24 2006 10:04 PM |
That's two days in a row that Franco has got rung up on a pitch off the plate.
Edgy DC Aug 24 2006 10:04 PM |
Mota it is.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2006 10:04 PM |

Zvon Aug 24 2006 10:06 PM |
BIG RBI single by Reyes.

Zvon Aug 24 2006 10:12 PM |
Ha--u see Preston Wilson stare down Mota after he K'd.....wassupwidat?
Zvon Aug 24 2006 10:14 PM |
Mota mows em down--game ovah!
Johnny Dickshot Aug 24 2006 10:15 PM |
I believe that inning for Mota was 8 pitches, 7 strikes.
Edgy DC Aug 24 2006 10:15 PM |
So, "Takin' Care of Business" seems to have displaced "Back in the New York Groove." Is that what they played after victories in 1986 or something?

Shit did we just sweep the Cardinals? They've been our bugbear for quite some time. This just might snap me out of the pessimistic grumpies I've been in lately.
metirish Aug 24 2006 11:08 PM |
The only thing that would make a sweep of the Cardinals better is if Bobby V were the manager.
Zvon Aug 24 2006 11:09 PM |

LOL...no big deal Zvon, I thought I had spelled Cardinals wrong or something....Bobby V and LaRussa have little time for each other.

I don't think it was a coincidence that David started to slump when Floyd got injured. This season's stats aside, I don't think other teams perceived Valentin to be as much of a threat as Cliff. So David was trying to do too much as other teams weren't giving him good pitches to hit.
Edgy DC Aug 25 2006 09:39 AM |
How about Keith and Ron's cynicism when Gary delivered the line about Green waiving his no-trade rights because he knew so many players in the mets clubhouse.
Yancy Street Gang Aug 25 2006 09:43 AM |
Me too. Earlier this year I wrote that he "brings nothing to the table" but he does contribute something worthwhile now and then. I think they're expanding his role a bit. At first he seemed to be mostly talking to fans. "Yay! It's great to be at Shea!"
Yancy Street Gang Aug 25 2006 09:46 AM |
For me, the most surprising broadcasting moment was when Gary couldn't immediately answer one of the easier Aflac Trivia Questions ever. Name the four Mets who won a rookie of the year award.
Hillbilly Aug 25 2006 09:47 AM |
That was a nice sweep and display of running scoring ability. It's fantastic to see the cleanup hitter catching fire again. Let's stomp some Phillies next!!
Centerfield Aug 25 2006 09:49 AM |
I would guess "Taking Care of Business" became the song of choice after they built their big lead.
