Shaky 1st inning for the rusty Bannister. I do think Delgado should have made the play that resulted in the second hit of the game, off Victorino. Most firstbasemen would have fielded that ball. CarlosD will just have to make up for that at the plate.

Some Phils phacts: Phils have homered in 15 straight games against the Mets. So far this year they are 7-9 against the Mets, and would have to sweep this weekend, their last meeting, to take the season series. ___________________________________________________________ Bannister walks Lieberthal to start off the second, then settles down and gets three quick outs.

Howard has a shot at MVP because there will likely be split votes for players on teams, especially the Mets if things continue hot through September.

Schmidt did have a monster year, but I didnt think he deserved it. But of course I wanted a Met to get it. And its true that the Mets functioned better as a team. Ray Knight wasnt gonna win an MVP, but he may have been our MVP that season. Carter had a decent season- some nice numbers. I havent hated too many players in all my years watching baseball. I grew to hat Michael Jack Schmidt.

If the Mets were in a division with the Phils, Yanks, & BoSox (an example that's often proposed) then Philly & Boston would both come into town for about 38 games per year. Charlie got tossed- u see the gum fall out of his mouth when he was arguing? I guess it could have been worse. It could have been his false teeth,lol. Was anyone else as rattled as I was when Reyes smooshed his hand, head first sliding into second on that steal earlier? Looked to be out, too. Great relief job by both Feliciano and Bradford. After 7 and a half its 4-3 Phils Mets gotta get something going.

I think it would add real juice to Yankee-Met games, and not the artifical juice that gets the media and team members (and managers) down on the Subway Series. Though to be honest, the way the media makes Joe Torre out to be, sounds like he'd rather be in KC than with the Yanks with all the big pressure games the Yanks play! So maybe its the media projection an annoyance for high profile matchups!

Y'know, it's all well and good to get the strarters rested and play without gripping pressure and to even have a bad night occasionally, but the Phils hardly need any more momentum at this point, considering we gave 'em plenty last time we met. We should be cruelly ending their playoff hopes, not furthering them.

It was Hispanic Heritage Night at Shea, so they played some nice video tributes to Julio Franco (set to Bob Dylan, Forever Young), Carlos Delgado, Pedro. Endy was also featured on "The Team, The Time, The Profile." Sweet Caroline was back in the 8th inning. I'm going to have to write my complaint letter. "Rally Time!" was featured before the bottom of the 9th with the Curly Shuffle again.
