(Strummer)

I could see as I rode in
the ships were gone and the pit fell in
a funeral bell tolled the hour in
a lonely drunkard slumbering

not the twang of the guitar
not even the siren wail of pain
not the shadows of desire
caught in the pouring pouring rain

breeze black windows on date street
where I was raised up on the cheap
(yeah, say!) ask no questions work and sleep
'til the old tango that's on date street

I can hear the sharpen of the pain
some lucky stranger in the rain
hear the sharpen of the rain
lucky stranger ... in the rain

hammers beat in dusty times
on these weedy rusted lines
mocking the sun and optomistic signs
all these weedy gates of iron

the sun won't shine my way again
lucky moon was on the wane
oh I'll never see a star again
in the pouring pouring rain

a salty band played for the train
a sad trombone and some refrain
the future pointed to the weather vane
the old calypso died of shame

I hear the sharpen of the pain
some lucky stranger in the rian
hear the sharpen of the pain
lucky stranger pouring rain

POURING RAIN !!!

Rain is tapering off here. Looks like wet clouds the rest of day but I think they can prolly get it in in an hour or so.

Game postponed until tomorrow at 12:10.

Game Called. Across the field of play
the dusk has come, the hour is late.
The fight is done and lost or won,
the player files out through the gate.
The tumult dies, the cheer is hushed,
the stands are bare, the park is still.
But through the night there shines the light,
home beyond the silent ill.

Game Called. Where in the golden light
the bugle rolled the reveille.
The shadows creep where night falls deep,
and taps has called the end of play.
The game is done, the score is in,
the final cheer and jeer have passed.
But in the night, beyond the fight,
the player finds his rest at last.

Game Called. Upon the field of life
the darkness gathers far and wide,
the dream is done, the score is spun
that stands forever in the guide.
Nor victory, nor yet defeat
is chalked against the players name.
But down the roll, the final scroll,
shows only how he played the game.

12:10 start tommorow! Some Bagels and Baseball to start the work week!

Both teams are off but have to catch afternoon flights. Mets to Denver and Phillies (or maybe they'll go to Penn Station and hop on the Acela Express) head down to DC

I'm disappointed - the whole rhythm of my Sunday has been thrown off :(

I hear ya. At least during the week you have activities to do with a rainout, or even go to bed earlier!

Weekends can get booring with nothing to do!

So you're saying that the rain and no Maine has plainly been a pain?

The bane of rain falls mainly on John Maine

But we had Lindsey and Tug, so there.

Actually from the looks of it, Rain Delay Central and Leap Toad haven't changed much since Yancy picked up and left in 2002!

The Phillies made the most of their day off, trading for Jeff Conine.

The 1985 Junior National Racquetball Champion is hitting .264/.326/.399 with 9 HR and 47 RBI.

My cousin Bryan (previously mentioned as being tagged with one of those too-perfect-to-tolerate labels) was a junior racquetball champion, around 1982. At 15, he was reguarly embarassing the men (including Greg Buttle) in the open division.

We were there today. It was... well... wet. We spent most of our time slumming around the Diamond Club and the Team Store, but bolted for the parking lot about fifteen minutes before they cancelled the game. We got out of the lot easy; no traffic. We'll be back in the morning, I s'pose.

I think the sport of raquetball peaked around the 1982-1985 range.
Not something you hear a whole lot about these days.

I played raquetball a lot growing up in Ireland,it's a big sport there, not as big as handball though.

The bright side of life.

Today at game time = Willets Point in charge of walking tours in Boston far from tv's or radios where he can follow the Mets game.

Tomorrow at game time = Willets Point at work where he can listen to the game while working on his librarian projects.

I'm probably the only one, but this works out well for me.

Don't you have a TV at home?

Anyway, it's 26 minutes to game time for the makeup game.

How's the weather in Queens today?
