Beltran with home run, a monster shot for a career high 39 homers....hey anyone else having problems in here tonight?

2-0 Mets after 1/2.

Standing O for Kazzy in DC.

Kaz with a hit and is now 8 for 18 since getting called up.

That's it, Kaz. No more cheers for you in DC.

Somebody ought to tell Traschell that he can relax - his balls have been humidified.

For Jose

TransMonk
Aug 29 2006 09:48 PM

Reyes now has as many home runs this month as he had all last year.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 29 2006 09:50 PM

How badly has Reyes already bludgeoned the "best seasons by a Met SS" mark?

dinosaur jesus
Aug 29 2006 09:55 PM

Jose now slugging .493. Who'd have guessed.

Kaz Matsui as a Met seems a long, long, long time ago.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 29 2006 10:07 PM

Trax is in trouble. It's now 4-3, with Rockies on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out :(

ScarletKnight41
Aug 29 2006 10:15 PM

Whew - Trax got out of the ugly inning maintaining a 4-3 lead!

dinosaur jesus

I appreciate how Trachsel works out of trouble. I'd just be a lot happier if he didn't get into so much trouble.

Well, his modest 2005 was the standard, and he's exceeded that even if he plays the rest of the season barefoot and without a glove.

Steve Trachsel is a superhero. A little Clark Kent, a little Superman.

The Rockies TV crew is pretty good. I've come to dread road games with MLB TV...but these guys seem knowledgable and realistic about their ballclub. A far cry from most homer announcers.

Edgy DC
Aug 29 2006 10:24 PM

... whoever they are. I more or less agree.

Keith is a bloody blast, talking about tough guys in baseball he says he used to worry about the guy coming in form the pen trying to hit from behind in the pile of players in the scrum...Keith don't ever change.

Looks like Drew Goodman and George Frazier.

Edgy DC
Aug 29 2006 10:37 PM

Frazier's not there, because they were talking about him.

Reyes just rox. Did you see how fast Matsui got down the line on that hard grounder up the middle to Reyes, by the way? Made Jose gun him down.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 29 2006 10:38 PM

Reyes just missed his second KaBoom of the evening!

The 2 RBI Triple makes it 6-3 Mets :)

Not the greatest swings by Wright - but he/I'll take the two knocks and 3 ribeyes.

P.S. this is shaping up as one long-ass game.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 29 2006 10:51 PM

Mr. Green drives home Mr. Wright to make it 7-3.

The Jewish Star (I've been calling him that for years - I'm not going to stop now) has five RBIs since becoming a Met.

Groin pain for LoDuca.

Actually, this'd been a good game to get DiFelice the start he didn't get on Sunday.

Trax, get this fifth inning over with.

Aug 29 2006 11:05 PM

Not for nothing but the way Gary is talking about Trax you'd think he's fucking terrible, yeah he has a shit ERA and gets great run support but you know what he's a winning pitcher...leave Trax alone.

I agree...there's something about him that makes the offense go. Maybe it's luck, but there's no denying it's a winning combo.

Edgy DC

We go to the sixth. One more half inning for me, then it's off to bed with Ben Franklin.

Hit it to Hawpe. He turns base hits into triples.

Martin is fun. A lefty who can't get lefties out.

Through 5 and one third innings for the Mets:

13 hits, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs.

Humified balls my ass...This is the Colorado I know and love.

It's only fair - he pitched that crappily when he was a Met.

Frayed Knot
Aug 29 2006 11:33 PM

So how many times is Keith going to mispronounce "humidor" tonight?
He keeps adding an extra syllable in there somewhere.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 29 2006 11:37 PM

Hawpe is going to have to leave the ballpark in disguise tonight, or risk being stoned to death by the Rockies fans.

Tucker bats for Trax in the 7th.

TransMonk
Aug 29 2006 11:43 PM

Plain old ugly at bat by Reyes to end the 7th. Swung in front of three breaking balls. Pulling his head on everyone. That'll cost him some Schaefer here.

metirish
Aug 29 2006 11:46 PM

Those at bats used to be common for Reyes, not this year though, give him his suds.

ScarletKnight41

Heilman is struggling in mop-up duty, but Colorado is down to its final out with a 5 run deficit.

ScarletKnight41

In a perfect topping to his night, Hawpe strikes out to end the game.

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 09:32 AM

Apparently, all we had to do with Matsui was farm him out for a spell. Did he look like a big-league offensive player out there or what?

Yancy Street Gang
Aug 30 2006 09:45 AM

It would be hard to argue that the Mets gave up on Kaz too soon, though.

How about those Rockies announcers? They seemed to spend the entire game answering e-mails.

My favorite was, "What's a screwball and why is it illegal?"

My second favorite was, "Where can I buy a $15 Rolex that will keep me hard all night long?"

Yancy Street Gang wrote:

Yeah, of course. You wish there was a better answer than "He needed a change of scenery," but sometimes that's all the wisdom you got. And even if he got it together, it's hard to argue that he would have been more productive than Valentin has been.

He was poking it to left with the bat control of Tony Gwynn, and timing his steals with that karate chop thing. His first steal was on a high-and-outside pitch, a golden pitch for Lo Duca to throw, and Paulie was right on the money, but he had a great jump on Trax.

Maybe thin air is his scene or something. But, as sour as it'd turn that trade, I hope he tears the (non-Met) league apart. Unless he somehow ends up on the Yankees.

How bad is for your team when the announcers are answering e-mails all night? And who is vetting the questions when many of them are based on the false premises of viewers who don't know the rules?

Willets Point
Aug 30 2006 10:24 AM

Do you think every game is like that or is Tuesday Rockies Mailbag Night? For some reason I kind of liked it. Different from the usual commentators pulling stuff out of their asses or showing cute kids in the stands at least.

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 10:28 AM

I liked it too. Although I didn't like that "If Frazier was here, he could tell you all about the spitball, heh heh."

I dislike winking attitudes about cheating.

Aug 30 2006 10:34 AM

Are we talking about the same George Fraizer who was the only honest man to lose 3 games in the same World Series?

Lefty Williams also lost 3 in the 1919 WS but that was a best-of-nine plus ... well you know.

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 10:39 AM

I don't know about honesty, but, yeah, that's the George Frazier that's in the booth for the Rocks.
