The Mets have never swept a season series from the Rockies. They won 5 out of 6 in 2004, and lost 5 out of 6 in 1994.

Francis can be a pretty good pitcher at times and this pitching matchup could go against us if Perez gets all wild again (although we did managed to get to him last time)

In fact, the Mets have never swept a season series against any National League club, so there's a chance at history tonight. (I visually scanned this page; perhaps I missed something.)

The only time they were swept in a season series to an NL team was an 0-6 against the Giants in 2002.

Didn't the Mets sweep the season series against the Cardianls in 1999 or 2000?...I think I read that when they were in town recently.

At least Delgado is out. I'd really like to see Lo Duca get some time off, or he more likely will get time off in October.

After Reyes scores on Beltran's sac, Mr. Wright hits a nice opposite field homer to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

ESPN should not have the rights to MLB games...they are advertising the Mets game on ESPN2, yet they haven't started showing the game yet...their piece of crap college football game hasn't gotten over yet...Best team in baseball not on the air so that I can watch Boston College versus CMU...I don't even know who CMU is, let alone want to see this crap...

only in football, can 6 minutes last over 1/2 an hour...and it's still has 1:22 left.

Perez is struggling in the first. It's now 2-2 with runners on first and second and nobody out.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 09:34 PM

Now the Rockies have the lead for the first time in the series, up 3-2 with two on and one out in fhe first.

Perez isn't going to last long tonight.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 09:37 PM

Green catches a long fly ball to end the inning, and the score is 3-2 Rockies after one complete inning.

finally got the game...in time to see why Perez was available...

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 09:44 PM

Perez hurts his own cause, bunting into an inning ending double play in the top of the second.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 09:54 PM

Whew! The pitcher's best friend gets Perez out of a bases loaded jam unscathed!

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 10:16 PM

It's now 4-2 Rockies with two on and one out in the 3rd. Oliver is going to be replaced by Oliver before the inning is out.

Make that 5-2. Ugh :(

Rockin' Doc

Man, Perez has nothing. He can't throw a slider near the strike zone and his fastball isn't much better. When he does finally get a fastball over the plate the Rockies lace it for a single. Even the outs seem to be recorded on hard shots.

Yancy Street Gang

Through three innings, Perez has thrown 85 pitches.

As we've learned, the average number of pitches per inning is between 16 and 17.

Chances of Oliver Perez pitching a complete game tonight: remote.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 10:27 PM

Perez is hitting for himself? WTF?

metirish
Aug 31 2006 10:28 PM

As Keith says it's called a 17.5 game lead in the division...

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 10:32 PM

Perez struck out, but Reyes' 2-RBI double brings the Mets back to within a run!

Willets Point
Aug 31 2006 10:34 PM

Runnin' Reyes steals 3rd. I hear a "Let's Go Mets" chant in the thin air.

Sumamabitch.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 31 2006 10:43 PM

After giving up a 2-run homer to give the Rockies a 7-4 lead in the 4th, Oliver is finally pulled.

Oliver comes in from the bullpen.

I'm sure Willie regrets not going to a pinch hitter last inning.

Willets Point
Aug 31 2006 10:45 PM

I bet he doesn't. He took a gamble knowing the Mets don't really need to win this game and he could keep his pen rested as long as possible and probably would stand by that decision.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 31 2006 10:47 PM

Is it too late to ship Perez back to Pittsburgh, or at least Norfolk.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 31 2006 10:49 PM

Willets and Scarlett look so much alike they could be twins. It's hard to keep track of who is who around here sometimes.

Willets Point

Peninsula Pilots get a mention. I regret never getting to see them in my Virginia days before the franchise moved to Wilmington.

Frayed Knot

I also thought Perez was a bit unlucky tonight ... at least for a while anyway. A bunch of infield hits which weren't scored errors but were plays that could have been made, plus there were more than a few bloops falling in here and there.

He's still got to find the plate more often and continues to have a hand in digging his own grave, but his acquisition has always been more about next year than about this year anyway. He's going to be a project.

ScarletKnight41

Pitcher Jeff Francis gets his 2nd RBI of the night to give the Rockies an 8-4 lead.

Willets Point
Aug 31 2006 11:15 PM

5 earned runs in the last 7 innings sounds good.

I'm 242 posts away from my custom Mr. Met designation and some clarity.

Why mess with tradition.

The announcers mentioned during his first at-bat that Green came into the game with a big lifetime o-fer against the starter. Once I saw his first swing, I knew that was true.
Man, he took some ugly cuts against the guy. He wasn't even close to the ball.

I still feel the Mets can be very vulnerable to decent lefty pitching.

I kept listening to the game even after I signed off of the laptop for the night. Somehow the concept of prayer came up. I had a lot of fun listening to Gary describe davening to Keith.

Keith - what would a Jewish player do?

Gary - Daven.

Keith - What?!?!?!

Gary - You know, like what Leo Mazzone used to do in the Atlanta dugout.

Maybe it was due to the late hour and my general lack of sleep this week, but that totally cracked me up.

The other thing that struck me was when they were talking about the post-season roster rules, and Gary was explaining that the Mets have one assistant general manager who is in charge of knowing all of these technical rules and keeping them straight. My reaction is that now I know what MK should be when he grows up <g>
