The Last Time the Mets Were in First Place on Sept. 1st

They year was 2000. Hopes for the Mets were high. Then they went into St. Louis and got swept by the Cardinals starting a horrible 7-13 run and ending the Mets hopes of winning the NL East. Of course it turned out better at the end of the month as the Mets returned to winning ways to take the Wild Card and then on to the NL Pennant.

Thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories. Why don't you just hit a fifty-eight hopper past Kurt Abbott while you're at it?

Hey, the story ended happily. Ok it didn't end happily, but I left off the ultimate unhappy ending.

I expect the Mets will do much better this year, by the way, and even if they do go 7-13 they'll still end up with 90+ wins. And the NL East title.

All this means to me is that Wilpon is still lying to us.
Once again, there will be no meaningful games in September.

Excellent point, Knot.

And don't forget, the Mets are only winning in order to fool more people into buying tickets for next year.

Nice to have you with us MGIM. I hope you stick around and join in on the fun. We could always use more Mets fans.

Especially in Michigan in October to be on the frontline of our possible World Series oponent.

If it's the Mets and the Tigers in the series, it's going to be very ugly at work.

My devotion to the Mets is well-known and somewhat tolerated at this point.

But if we go head-to-head, I'm going to have to bring in the Mets flag to decorate my desk and it will go downhill from there!

BTW, I hope we do get the Tigers. Everyone else kind of scares me.

Welcome MGIM.

Glad to have you with us.

Now, as part of your rookie ritual, get yourself up there on that virtual table in the middle of the room and sing your school fight song.

I went to a wedding once where the groom was from Michigan and the bride from Nebraska. At the reception the happy couple's college buddies seized the DJ's microphone and had a duel of college fight songs.

That's interesting. Michigan and Nebraska football games have been on tv a lot over the years, and the Michigan fight song is very familiar. But I don't think I could recognize the Nebraska fight song of you locked me in a room and played it ten times.

I'm a University of Missouri grad. We don't have a fight song. We have a surrender song.
