The Emmys

Some random thoughts.

I hope they re-run Elizabeth I. I missed it the first time around.

I always liked Kate Jackson best.

Aaron Spelling's legacy was a bunch of really bad, hokey, and popular shows. And his daughter is eminently qualified to have been in any one of them. The only one that I never watched at least once was Dynasty.

During the tribute to industry personalities who had passed away during the past year, was it my imagination or did Don Knotts get the loudest applause?

Please add yours.

I didn't watch, but I was glad to hear that Tony Shaloub won a best actor trophy for Monk.

I'm really torn as to whether Dick Clark should have made his appearance last night. It was admittedly tough to watch, although credit him for showing a twinkling of the vitality that made him who he is.

For one year, until we moved back to NY City, I went to the same High School* as Dick Clark. It was only about ten years after he had gone there, but he was already famous enough so that his picture had been hung in the main hall. I wonder if that picture is now getting younger as he ages.

Too bad she's overshadowed every week on Grey's Anatomy by the even hotter Sandra Oh.

Wokka wokka.

I first noticed her when she had a part on a Steven Segal movie (Under Siege II - Dark Territory). She had dark hair then, and played his teenaged niece. I had to look twice last night to see if it was the same person.

That got me thinking about other actresses for whom a part in a Segal movie was a kick start/re-start of thier film careers.
Hijacking my own thread?

So I did a looksee to find some others.
1988 Above the Law - Pam Grier, Sharon Stone
1990 - Hard to Kill - Kelly LeBrock
1991 Out For Justice - Gina Gershon, Juliana Marguiles
1994 Under Siege - Erika Eliniak (OK, so he's not batting 1000, but she was HOT, too)
1996 Glimmer Man - Nikki Cox
1996 Executive Decision (although Kurt Russell was the star) - Halle Berry
1997 Fire Down Below - Marg Helgenberger

Then, his films ran into union problems, his budgets and the quality of his costars took a major drop. Since then his films have basically premiered at Blockbuster. But for a while, he was on some roll,eh?

Back to the Emmys.

I didn't comment on the gowns the actresses wore last night because I don't want to usurp Edgy's position as the board's major gay icon. :)

TV fashion is not my department.

The idea of celebrating excellence in television is pretty risible.

What is your position on television anyway?

Is it the modern stuff that you don't like? Or have you simply outgrown television? When discussion turns to Happy Days or M*A*S*H or The Odd Couple you have a lot to say?

I think there's a lot of decent and worthwhile stuff on TV. It's overwhelmed by the ton of garbage that's on, but I probably watch about 300 hours a year, not counting Mets games, David Letterman, and the occasional movie.

I was plugged in to a TV for 25 years, and then I killed it.

Even as a kid, though, I knew awards shows were hamhanded three-hour commercials.

Denis Leary got robbed. 'Rescue Me' is the best show on TV

Jeremy PIven from 'Entourage' was a most deserving winner.

Season three ends tonight and it's supposed to be "explosive".

Leary and Shaloub weren't in the same category.

Really?

Best actor in a drama, no?

Or is 'Monk' considered a comedy?

Then it was Keifer and '24' who jobbed my guy I guess.

Yancy Street Gang

Yes, Monk is a comedy. It was Jack Bauer who kicked Tommy Gavin's butt.

Sutherland is great and fun to watch, but Leary turns in a better acting performance, no question.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think Entourage sucks.

Yancy Street Gang

I was lukewarm on Entourage during its first season, which only had 6 or 8 episodes. But I think it hit its stride in its second season, and now I really enjoy it.
