British mod model, she blew minds in 1965 showing up for the Melbourne Cup (traditionally a very conservative establishment event in very conservative Melbourne) with no gloves, no stockings and a skirt a few inches above the knee. It seems tame now (see right), but it made her an international sensation at the time, and, like the Beatles appearing on TV with their shaggy hair, or the Stones performing with non-matching clothes, it was a key early volley in the culture wars.
