"So do the Mets win 90+ games and run away with their division every year?"

"Hey Uncle Stevie, how did you become such a big crazied Met Fan when this old fella is one of those "I like both teams" casual fans, who doesn't know Magglio Ordonez from Rey Ordonez! And stop counting down your fingers, I wouldn't know 1 from 3 yet, I'm only 6 months...crazy old geezer!"

Only if your parents neglect you. There's no reason that you shouldn't make it to Shea by the end of this season.

Heh. Nah, I'm not too fond of bringing little, little ones to big stadiums.

Smaller crowds, like a HS football (or other HS sport) or baseball (both very small in Westchester so that shouldn't be much of a big deal.

His mother, my sister, and I are on the same page when it comes to babies at stadiums. So it'll be around age 4-5 before I take him out to Flushing

His mom is not big on going to baseball games (she used to before her Middle School years, but she mainly went for the food) and her hubby is more of a sports on TV watcher (and a causal sports fan at that, probably will root for the Mets this postseason only because "its been so long since they've last done anything like this right?" ) so it looks like I'll be the one determining when the little guy goes to games.

Those pics are of Aidan, right around a month old back in March. Can't wait to tease him on the fact that the year I was born, the Mets traded Tom Seaver!

I'm allready amazed at the technology and gizmos that my sister has for the little guy. Seems like I always end up saying "Okay, I KNOW I didn't have THIS when I was 6 months old!" "Aww for crying out loud, all I had was a crib and a little carousel thingy overhang, AND I LIKED IT!"

Can't wait to plop him down in front of some 1986 high...errr, check that, 2006 highlights!

Great expression on that third pic.

Don't be too surprised if he's completely indifferent to baseball and the Mets.

My own son has only a mild interest. He enjoys going to a game but isn't interested enough to watch on TV.

You can plop him down in front of a 2006 World Championship highlight DVD but he might walk out of the room.

In 1988 I had season tix in the mezz on the third base side. Sitting right in front of me all season long was a young couple who brought their newborn to every game with them. The mom would breastfeed the kid early in the game and he'd just nap for the rest of the evening.

My oldest was 3 when he went to his first game and he is as obessessed a Mets fan as I was at his age now (9), possibly moreso.

My second oldest went to his first game this summer at age 7, only because he never before showed any interest. Since his first game though he has gone to another and does show a bit more interest in the Mets and baseball in general.

My 5 year-old daughter likes to ask if the Mets are winning and knows she is supposed to dislike the Yankees but has no desire to attend a game.

Oh I know, and I wouldn't push hard. Plus alot of what kids like go in-and-out (sadly collectable industry scums try to push fads into "here to stays" but thats another topic) and alot of it really does come into focus once you start interacting with others.

I'm a Met fan, for one reason, because my older cousin is a diehard Yankee-Jet fan and I wasn't really into baseball untill I was 8-9 which of course correlates with the Mets being one of the top teams in the league back then, and when I started interacting with, ummm, non-special needs kids (I have limited hearing (I wear a hearing aid, great for baseball games BTW), and bad motor skills so up untill 3rd grade I was in special classes, I joined non-special needs kids when we moved to Westchester from the Bronx in 1985) most of them were Met bandwagoners.

I certaintly wasn't pushed into being a Met fan, and I kind of blame myself for making my Dad a casual "I root for both teams" because he took me to Shea when the Mets were winning (He grew up a Yankee/Mantle fan, but during the 60's-70's did alot of traveling so it was hard to still follow baseball day-to-day, hasn't really done so on a consistant basis probably since the 1950's)

I hear what you are saying and know I'll probably adjust what I do with the little guy based on that.

Lenny went to a game as an infant. Bruce Hurst, pitching for the Padres, shut out the Mets.

Then he went as a 3-year-old to Hideo Nomo's first game at Shea, as a Dodger. It was my first post-strike game. The Mets hit two homers in the first and he was very interested in the home run apple and kept demanding it come up again. I tried to explain that having it come up twice was pretty good when Butch Huskey, I believe, belted another.

He's not as big a fan as I am and wouldn't turn on the game if I'm not around but will gladly watch with me.

I was totally disinterested in watching baseball until I was 11 so don't give up on young children who you may think are lost causes.

While it would be great if my son enjoyed baseball as much as I do, I'm not the least bit disappointed that he doesn't.

Maybe the coming playoff games will win him over, but I kind of doubt it. Of course, the fact that they don't end until midnight will probably prevent that from happening anyway.

My daughter's first game was just prior to her 2nd birthday. She's not a fan of the game at all.

My older son's first game was when he was three months old. He's a casual fan.

MK's first game was when he was three weeks old. He's our one true fan of the game.
