I don't understand the posting levels

Why does Milner follow Seaver?

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 02:11 PM

He doesn't.

Cooby got the opportunity to choose a custom posting designation --- presumably someone besides the 500 players she just went throug --- at 11,000. She drove around the block with Mrs. Payson for a while, but, while I was away, transmogrified back to a player.

When I reach 11,000 posts in the next few years can I choose Pete Flynn,do we have a pic of him?

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 03:11 PM

If nobody beats you to him (and that's no reason to rush).

I'm sure we can find a photo.

Yancy Street Gang
Aug 30 2006 03:41 PM

I thought the rule was that once you passed 11,000 you had to choose a non-player, like Rube Walker or Joan Payson, so that there would be no overlap with people still rising through the ranks.

Whatever.

I notice that I've passed the 11,000 mark. Are there any papers I need to fill out?

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 03:43 PM

I thought that was the rule, but coo' just somehow got around me when I wasn't looking.

Just e-mail me what you want, design your own avatar if you like. Try and stay within size standards and all.

I'm just not sure if'n' I should take The Hammer out of the great list of all players now.

KC
Aug 30 2006 08:06 PM

You're joking, right?

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 08:10 PM

Yeah, SC is about 89-90%. I just thought the fun was earning and having a unique designation. The Hammer is the Hammer though.

One other alternative is that you can pick peeps like Mookie, Hernandez, and, um, Dallas Green, but the name would be followed by "Coach," "Broadcaster," and "Manager" (and the avatar so depicting them), rather than their playing roles.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 30 2006 08:13 PM

The fun is in earning the designation of the poster's choice.

If cooby's concept of fun is different from yours, is that really such a big deal?

Edgy DC
Aug 30 2006 08:16 PM

I thought my post expressed understanding of that.

There is no big deal. This has gone without mention until Snoopy up there chimed in.

I guess you fixed your photoshop! The avatar looks great.

I just realized that by the time I get to 11,000 posts all the good ones will be gone.

I'm gonna end up as Ted Robinson.

Thanks everyone. I wanted to get back to having one avatar. I never really liked that "stacked" look. I didn't want to give up the rocky orange guy, and I didn't want to diss Ralph, so the only alternative was to create a combined avatar.

Surprisingly, I couldn't find a preexisting picture of Ben Grimm with Ralph Kiner. So I had to create one.

To me, it looks like Ben is saying, "Anybody who makes fun of my buddy Ralph is gonna get clobbered!" And Ralph is thinking, "Who is this guy again?"

When it came time for me to pick a "permanent" designation, I knew right away that I wanted to pick one of the original broadcasters. Bob Murphy has become almost deified; I couldn't bring myself to try to become him. (I might even argue that nobody is worthy of that honor!) I did consider Lindsey Nelson, especially since I have an affinity for the name Lindsey. (It's my daughter's name.) But Ralph has been part of the family for such a long time I had to ultimately go with him.

Seems to me the level changes should be coming less frequently as we move up the list. (A post in the rankings forum says that)

My player has changed three times within my last 100 or so posts. It that a Jamie in the system?
(Jamie Quirk seemed like a nice guy; too nice to be burdened by the negative connotation of his last name)

SK: >>>have a copy of that image in my house, signed by Tom Seaver<<<

The more we learn of Tom Seaver, the worse off we are.

I can't believe you didn't tell me that, but we can fight about that via email.

This ain't about Mets stuff, it's about Tom Seaver signing high priced Betty
Boop nonsense (just my taste, or lack thereof) for money while he treats life-
long fans like garbage who might run into him at the Diamondclub or in the
press level hallways.

Why is it that sometimes when I send a PM it goes to my outbox and not my sent box?

cooby
Oct 26 2006 12:48 PM

If it's working right, it will go in the outbox after that person has read it, it stayed in the sent box until it's read.

However, I don't think it always works right lately
