Time to put the hammer on Astros WC hopes.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:07 PM

What WC hopes? These must be different Astros you're talking about.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:10 PM

1-2-3 inning for Wandy. :)

TransMonk
Sep 01 2006 08:11 PM

What is Wandy short for?

I guess DoubleyouRod just doesn't roll off the tongue like the other Rods.

KC
Sep 01 2006 08:12 PM

I have to admit I'm a tad nervous wondering what Tommy has.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:14 PM

Baseball-reference says that his name is Wandy E. Rodriguez. I've never heard that it's short for anything.

Great to have you stop by Annie. You have been away too much this season.

KC
Sep 01 2006 08:28 PM

Cool avatar, Annie.

Sounds like there's a bunch of Mets fans in the building.

GEEZ KC, for a moment there I thought Tommy left the game or failed to start the game.

=;)

I shoulda added ... got left in the tank.

Keith and Gary report that the medicine/baby aspirin protocol has returned the feeling to Glavine's finger.

2-0 Mets in the second when Endy's speed induced a wild throwing error that let two runners score.

Meanwhile, Glavine has three strikeouts through the first two innings.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:36 PM

He's doin' it so far.

Sep 01 2006 08:37 PM

Mets up two zip and they shouldn't be,Glavine looking good early.

TransMonk
Sep 01 2006 08:40 PM

Why shouldn't they be?

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:41 PM

Because they're Mets. :-P

Seriously, Adam Everett made a throwing error that led to the runs scoring.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 08:41 PM

Endy should have been out at first, but the wild throw allowed the two runners on base to score.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 08:43 PM

Stupid fans

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 08:46 PM

Vamos Carloses! Delgado knocks in Beltran to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 08:54 PM

The leadoff single in the bottom of the third is erased by the pitcher's best friend.

metirish
Sep 01 2006 08:54 PM

Glavine looks just fine, seven good innings tonight would be great.

metirish
Sep 01 2006 09:00 PM

My God, Gary tells us that Wandy used to named Endy Cabraha(sp) so he would appear 3 years younger......it changed back to Wandy 3 years ago.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:08 PM

Some less than fabulous defense helped put Glavine in a jam in the 4th. 1 run in, runners on first and second, 1 out.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 09:12 PM

And he walks in a run.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:13 PM

Fuck! Glavine just walks in a run.

Bases loaded, one out :(

metirish
Sep 01 2006 09:13 PM

Bases loaded walks will kill ya...they score everytime.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 09:15 PM

Sep 01 2006 09:16 PM

Damn! A 2-run single gives Houston a 4-3 lead :(

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:17 PM

5-3 on a fucking wild pitch :(

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:17 PM

The nightmare inning is finally over. 5-3 Houston.

Time to get them back!

metirish
Sep 01 2006 09:17 PM

Wild pitch or passed ball?

MFS62
Sep 01 2006 09:19 PM

Obvuously, Aspirin must not be a performance enhancing drug.

Later

TransMonk
Sep 01 2006 09:19 PM

Wild pitch.

The Astros awnser our two we shouldn't have scored with a couple they shoudn't have of their own.

Hey we still have 1986 NLCS over you!

Sadly, I don't think any of this years Mets are ready for a 4am fight with police at whatever the equivilant of Cooters is these days in Houston...

TransMonk
Sep 01 2006 09:27 PM

Poor Carlos...he can't figure out why the crowd is yelling LoDuuuuuuuuca whenever he comes to the plate.

Sounds like Shea last year.

Hey Borkowski!

Walks kill.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:32 PM

An outfield misplay on Mr. Wright's deep drive clears the bases. 6-5 Mets!

cooby
Sep 01 2006 09:36 PM

Ya gonna flash that thing when someone makes an error on one of his hits?

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:37 PM

He would have brought home a run even if there was a spectacular catch.

IMO, the difference was between that drive bringing home two or three of the runners.

cooby
Sep 01 2006 09:38 PM

Just teasing. I just looked at a game in progress summary and see there was no error. Flash on.

SteveJRogers
Sep 01 2006 09:40 PM

Am I the only one that wishes the Mets and Stros had a more meaningfull rivalry? I mean, they ARE our expansion Bros?

SteveJRogers
Sep 01 2006 09:44 PM

Course I hate the Dodgers so much that it pains me that Wilpon is such a Dodger freak, to the point where the new stadium is echoing Ebbetts and Jackie Robinson's name has been floated around through the years (not just in recent days) as a possible name for the place.

LET IT GO! ITS BEEN ALMOST 50 YEARS! THEIR AGE HAS COME AN GONE! ITS OUR TURN NOW!

ehem...

Okay, better go back to watching the game, but one of these days I'm really going to go on a treatise about the Dodgers!

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:45 PM

In the top of the inning Delgado was HBP and it wasn't called. Now Biggio is hit and it wasn't called.

The umpire isn't making any friends tonight.

metirish
Sep 01 2006 09:46 PM

Hardly anything wrong with Wilpon being a Dodger freak, Koufax being the great friend and all,Wilpon is a great owner IMO.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:47 PM

Jason Lane's fly ball ties the game.

SwitchHitter
Sep 01 2006 09:47 PM

And we're tied.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 01 2006 09:48 PM

Biggio's got no case. The little snot has spent his whole career leaning into pitches and it's about time he learned what it's like to be screwed by the practice.

Now let's get Glavine and his lead-blowing, ancient arm out of there.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:50 PM

Tied at 6 after 5.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 09:53 PM

Glavine's night is over - Tucker is pinch hitting for him in the 6th.

True, but I was deeply troubled by the lack of reigning boos in 2000 when that fake, phony fraud Tommy Lasorda threw out the first ball at Shea for a World Series game.

I still have nightmares about 1988!

Plus no Yankee-Hating Met fan should ever habor anything but ill will to those who fled to California, specifically those who hoodwink others the way the Dodgers did to the Giants.

In essence, the Dodger franchise in recent years are finally getting the cumupance they deserve for the entire O'Malley reign! I hope the Angels take over LA and Los Angeles gets to see EXACTLY why they were called 'Dem Bums back in the 20's and 30's.

Another No-Decision.

Wonder if the second half changes the Mets opinion about bringing him back next year? Probable postseason performance aside of course

TransMonk
Sep 01 2006 10:06 PM

The fact that Glavine went 5 and threw 93 pitches makes it a good start in my book. His arm didn't fall off...or worse, go numb.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 10:07 PM

Whew - Bradford gets the strikeout to end the 6th and strand the runner at 3rd. Still tied.

Yes! Porn Stash knocks in Mr. Wright to give the Mets 7-6 lead!

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 01 2006 10:33 PM

Attaboy Valentin.

You knew when Wright missed a HR by a few feet, then rammed the next delivery off the fence, that they'd do some damage against this joker.

Great turn by Valentin, followed by an Endy Special.

We rock again.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 10:34 PM

And Endy's single brings home Porn Stash! 8-6!

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 10:38 PM

The inning ends on a strike-em-out/throw-em-out DP. 8-6 Mets, going to the bottom of the 8th with Heilman coming in.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 10:49 PM

I never like seeing the Mets face anyone named Qualls.

Is that Jimmy's son?

ScarletKnight41
Sep 01 2006 10:57 PM

IMO, the turning point in this game was when Wandy Rodriguez was pulled for a pinch hitter in the third inning. It was a calculalted risk, but it resulted in the pulling of a pitcher who was doing fairly well and putting the games in the hands of a bullpen that will now be a llittle more taxed going into the rest of this series.
