Argh. Umpire doesn't tell DiFelice the call on a 3-2 pitch, and Mike winds up making an unneccisary throw down to second.

Air-mailed!

Runners on corners, 0 out.

Wow, Wright finally gets a day off.

The line up looks much less impressive with Beltran, Wright, and LoDuca all getting a well earned day off.

Beautiful movement on the strike three pitch, El Duque out of the jam.

That pitch was so awesome, El Duque was walking off the mound confidently before it hit the glove. He also seemed to know the guy wouldn't swing!

Quite the pitchers duel through 4 innings.

No score.

Mets are getting perfected here. Who will break it up?

TransMonk

David Wright pinch hitting in the 8th.

Goddammit, Dave Raymond......stop telling me the Mets have the best bullpen.

You've got the best base stealer in baseball. Why in the world do you give up an out to get him to second?

Was that a legitimate hit, by the way?

OlerudOwned
Sep 03 2006 04:04 PM

Damn.

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 04:04 PM

Dunno, I have it on radio. I did hear Milo Hamilton say that you wanted it to be a clean hit but they scored it correctly.

TransMonk
Sep 03 2006 04:06 PM

Reyes would have made it even if it was handled cleanly.

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 04:11 PM

Come on Bert, no more runs!

Why is Chris Worthless still in this game?

Hot damn, a double for Tucker!

2 on, 2 out, and Oswalt gets the hook. Wow.

Giving David Wright the day off.

I doubt coming out of a six week slump David needs a day off. Even if you start Woodward (like Willie has in a third of all Mets games this year), at least put a bat in there that can make a difference late in the game. Wright should have been pinch hitting in that spot.

Frayed Knot
Sep 03 2006 04:35 PM

Yeah, but Woodward is going to be part of the post-season bench (most likely) and getting him some ABs doesn't hurt - esp when the game isn't exactly do-or-die. He hasn't been good this year but was very useful last season and we could use some semblence of that player going forward.

Meanwhile, Mota also auditioning for a post-season slot.

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 04:35 PM

I can feel a big inning in the Top of 9th!

Chavez, Floyd and Delgado

Frayed Knot
Sep 03 2006 04:38 PM

Maybe, but Reyes's GO prolly ruined the best chance we were going to have.

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 04:39 PM

Does DeFelice ever throw out runners? Just wondering.

True, ah well, series is in the bag though.

I mean like you said, for the 6th straight year the Mets will not be playing a single meaningfull game in September!

Problem with picking images online, sometimes the "View Image" page makes the image smaller than it appears

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 04:45 PM

I could turn it backwards......but I won't. Y'all don't need no stinkin' rally.

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 04:45 PM

Come on Lidge, pretend Floyd is Pujols!

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 04:46 PM

Okay, Delgado is definatly Pujols-esque!

HRs are rally killers though. Love to see actual stats for it though in terms of runs scored after a HR.

Whers the Elias phone number!

game over. Lidge isn't the closer, but he got it done.

God forbid we have to face them again. We didn't see Ratface or the Asshole this series.

I'll be very happy if Houston fades doen the stretch.

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 04:51 PM

To a committe. Of which he's apparently a member.

Frayed Knot
Sep 03 2006 04:52 PM

btw, we were two batters away from getting to Woodward's spot and THEN I would have joined you in calling for a PH appearance by Wright.
THAT's when the game would have really been on the line. Until then, let Woody grab some ABs and have Wright's day off truly be a day off.

Sep 03 2006 04:52 PM

How did Pettitte get the name "rat-face"? I really wanna know. I keep seeing it here and wondering so I figured I might as well ask.

He has a rodent-esque look to the face, long nose, thin long face.

I think its also based on national broadcast's overuse of his focused glare while getting the sign from the backstop.

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 04:57 PM

Okay, that makes sense. I'm half-blind so I don't see things like that.

Frayed Knot
Sep 03 2006 05:00 PM

I'm pretty sure that's a nickname that origniated on this board - although I don't know who specifically came up with it.

I just saw the replay of Oswalt's bases-loaded GO to Valentin ... he was safe.

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 05:00 PM

Darn! Can not google a good shot of what I'm talking about.

Basically camera focuses straight on Pettitte's face, the brim is lowered, really making the long face and nose stand out and the glove is right in front of his face, almost identical to Clemens' glare

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 05:01 PM

That's really pettitte. is that what you mean?

SwitchHitter
Sep 03 2006 05:03 PM

This board don't allow .bmps?

SteveJRogers
Sep 03 2006 05:03 PM

Yup. I'm trying to find one where the glove is right in front, just before going into his delivery. Ah well

Gwreck
Sep 03 2006 06:43 PM

I'm all in favor of David Wright and Paul LoDuca getting days off, but not using them as pinch hitters in the 8th (in place of Woodward and DiFelice) is tantamount to giving up...in a 2-0 game.

I've not seen much baseball this weekend but I just heard Willie say Beltran could be back Monday...

Yancy Street Gang
Sep 03 2006 08:23 PM

That's terrific. The report I saw had Beltran saying that his knee is feeling a lot better, and he's very pleased.
