Carlos Beltran is playing today.

SNY is showing him walking around in the outfield with a giant rubber band between his ankles.

No Delgado. No Wright. No Lo Duca. No Valentin.

Ouch.

But the happy news is that both Beltran and Floyd are playing.

Anderson Hernandez gets to try to improve on his lifetime .111 batting average as a Met.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 06 2006 04:17 PM

Floyd in too. But DiFelice over Stinnett? Bobby Vee would not let that aggression stand, man.

Rotblatt
Sep 06 2006 04:17 PM

Why on earth would you put Hernandez in the 2 hole?

I'm a little surprised that Willie's benching Wright, who, after all, had a day off yesterday.

Yancy Street Gang
Sep 06 2006 04:18 PM

I agree. I'd much rather see Stinnett than DiFelice.

And I'd prefer Edgardo Alfonzo over Anderson Hernandez, but I'm clearly not going to get my way on that one.

Well, with Oliver Perez pitching you probably won't need a lot of offense.

Ole Jose!

Oh, right. Good point!

Perez retires the first three, striking out 1.

Reyes sees one pitch and likes it.

1-0 Mets.

Who's worth exposing on the 40-man roster to get Fonzie to the majors?

Braves broadcasters say Bob Murphy was deaf by the time he retired due to the noise the jets make flying over Shea.

ScarletKnight41

The Braves announcers are liars.

Bob might have been a little deaf, but I would be shocked if the jets had anything to do with it.

Methinks the Braves announcers don't like the shoe being on the other foot.

Zvon

Floyds rippin some foul balls.

That was the 119th time the Mets have scored in the 1st inning this season.
Thats freakin impressive.

Sep 06 2006 04:27 PM

Floyd gets K'd, but Beltran's knee checks out OK as he steals second.

They are liars.
They say stuff like that to fill air and it cracks me up.

Rotblatt
Sep 06 2006 04:27 PM

Wow. Beltran with the steal, gimpy knee and all.

Might have been the hit-and-run--Floyd went down swinging.

Green comes alive!

Runners on the corners for the Old Man.

I believe that's 119 total runs in 1st innings, not 1st inning runs in 119 games (there've only been 130-some games to date)

Still impressive, just not quite the same as how you put it.

on edit: oops, let's make it 120

Rotblatt
Sep 06 2006 04:29 PM

Greenie stays hot, singling to right. Beltran doesn't test Franceour's arm (or his knee) and holds up at third.

OlerudOwned
Sep 06 2006 04:30 PM

Franco! Base hit!

2-0 Mets, and McDowell makes an early visit to the mound. Sadly, he does so with his clothes on right side up.

Rotblatt
Sep 06 2006 04:30 PM

The old man singles him in! Runners at first and second now with Woody up.

CF says Braves broadcasters are Certified Idiots due to their brains shriveling up from lack of oxygen and falling out their ears.

Oh- I thought that was a bit much.
lol.
I blame these liars in the Braves booth.

Mr Franco comes thru and knocks in the Mets 2nd run of the game.

Not again.

Zvon

Oh!
Nice catch by Green.

He makes a lunging diving laid out sliding catch to save a hit for Perez, who is looking good.
No mustache, but he's looking good.

I don't like that little dance over the foul line that he does after the inning.

The first time I saw him do it it was after a nice swinging strikeout, but he also did it later the same game after an inning in which he gave up five runs.

Frayed Knot
Sep 06 2006 04:45 PM

Sounds like he's got one of those 'don't step on the foul line' superstitions ... only with a bit of flair added

Frayed Knot
Sep 06 2006 04:51 PM

Sigh ... no no-hitter.
And I was just starting to get all excited about it too.

Zvon
Sep 06 2006 05:10 PM

Braves announcers on the foul pop up that Mr Franco couldnt get to:

"How can the Mets be rewarded when one of their own fans interferes with the play?"

I have to turn the sound down.

Well, that call did help Perez out of that inning.

Zvon
Sep 06 2006 05:22 PM

Perez does have a lil something there that resembles a mustache.
He must have grown that last inning in the dugout.

He sure is getting some breaks as LaRoche lines out to first, Aybar caught frozen off the bag and its a easy DP.

Zvon

Ive made my decision:
If Perez will gimme 8 shutout innings every game I dont care if he does cartwheels over the foul line on his way off the mound.

Does he get to go for the complete game here?

Perez will start the 9th, and he is greeted with a line single off Marcus Giles bat.

I think theres more people here today than at Shea.

little picture in my brain that says, "hey Atlanta, fuck you" it has me smiling.

Sep 06 2006 06:53 PM

HAHA!

I was just thinking, nice to finally follow a September loss to the Braves with a couple of wins!

Not to mention how nice it feels not to feel the need to smash things after the Mets LOSE a September game to the Braves!

Was also thinking that this series had all the potential to be a litmus test when the season began.

Well, it was

For the Braves who still have fading hopes of the Wild Card! HEHEHE!

Andy Handy is hitting .120 now, .103 career.

That's still eight points better than Pedro Martinez, so fear not.

That said, I have no problem putting him in the two-hole. Clearly, they're trying to get the guy going.

some after game tidbits:
] Jose Reyes hit the first pitch he saw in the second game for his sixth leadoff homer of the season, setting a Mets record.

^shouldnt that just be "Met" record? Mets record?
Yancy, your the Met or Mets record expert- whadoYaThink?
]It was New York's first doubleheader sweep at home since Aug. 15, 2000, against Colorado.

Wow!
]The Mets had not swept a doubleheader from Atlanta since July 22, 1988.

:)
^Somebody check that cuz its awfully hard to believe.

Edgy DC
Sep 07 2006 12:44 AM

Just to recall, this man gave up 12 hits (and seven runs) in three innings his last start, throwing 96 pitches.

Wow.
