You Can Accelerate MY Particles Anytime, Doctor . . .

This is cool, but the following quotes make me a little nervous.

]"We are going to make mini Big Bangs. There has never been such a jump in particle physics. It will go into an area that we don't really understand," he added.

I mean, doesn't that just sound dangerous? And the following is hardly reassuring:

]Cox dismissed worries that by adventuring into the unknown and creating tiny Black Holes, the machine could even threaten to destroy the planet.

"The probability is at the level of 10 to the minus 40," he said.

Uh, this machine accidentally destroying the planet is even a possibility?

I hear you. If they're "going into an area they don't understand" then maybe the odds of destroying the planet are a little bit higher than he's estimating.

And even if it doesn't destroy the planet but only destroys a continent or two, that's still pretty bad. That's the kind of thing that can give those scientists a black eye.

Aw shucks. I'll bet you say that to all the Things.

>>>if the machine behaves itself<<<

lol

Taking out a chunk of France rather intrigues me if the Swiss can be spared.

A chocolate-based moral decision?

Nah, I just haven't been a dick online yet today and my fingers were itching.

there were those who seriously believed that the atomic bomb would create a chain-reaction splitting every atom of hydrogen on the planet.

if the chances are really 10-40 you've got a better chance of winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning on the same day. is anyone actually worried?

in any case, miniature black-holes would be a cool way to go, especially if it slowly ate the world up like in some crazy science fiction movie. and the best part- france would be the first to go!

Not yet, that I know of, but, the stakes are rather high.

Anyhow, I'm still here this morning.

I have to say, I DID immediately think of Buckaroo Bonzai. I wonder if this doctor dude is planning on performing brain surgery before speeding to the test site on his chopper, after which, he'll rock out with his killer band.

Because if not, I have a feeling we're all doomed by aliens from acrros the 8th dimension. It takes a unique skill set to defeat them.

I don't care what they do. They'll never get a particle to move as fast as Jose Reyes.
