Anyone wanna fight about something?

KC
Sep 12 2006 07:37 PM

Just say something, I disagree with it already and question why you're
even gonna say it. The fact that I beat you to soliciting an argument is
proof that you're a fucking asshole - likely 4th or 5th generation asshole.

Just stop it already, shut the fuck up, and quit riding me already.

Dammit KC we were getting along so well. The whole Red Light forum had been archived it had been so long without a fight. Now you have to go and start another of your pissing matches.

I tried to find a funny cartoon image of a pissing match and instead I found this:

Not too shabby.

What search term did you put in to get that?
Pissing match?
That search engine must have some weird logic.

Derek Jeter is the embodiment of everything you want in a role model...

Except for his massive Jordan/Ripken-esque public personae, finely crafted so that no one will ever know the real Jeter untill after he retires (if ever) which helps over-inflate his actual "captain" label despite the fact that he is a cold fish who won't defend teammates if they are not his friends

I MEAN MUNSON BACKED UP REGGIE WHEN HE HAD TO FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Geez 2 (thats a Terrell Owens reference) can you ONCE IN YOUR LIFE be the bigger man and defend Alex Rodriguez?

MFS62

Steve,
This is a place to fight, so let me say that I am in violent agreement with that.
And I'll fight with anyone who thinks they agree with it more than I do.

Derek Jeter is a mamby-pamby, wishy-washy candyass who got lucky when he was drafted, got called up at the right time, and has been the golden child ever since. If MiniWolf ever decided to use Derek Jeter as a role model, I'd sell him on eBay.

Hehehe!

Actually I managed to fight with myself there, going for the "funny" calling back the Rivera mess with another MFY who is untouchable in this city despite having pretty much the same type of personality (without the insecurity) of ARod, yet ARod is hated in this city by press and fans

The thing that really does surprise me is all the love MFY fans (male ones mostly) have for the guy considering he lacks all the "Guy you'd hang at a bar with" qualities that 99% of NY's baseball heroes and icons generally have

He doesn't hang out with guys, at the bar or anywhere else. Have you seen the women he has dated? Those wretched, sexually insecure and unfulfilled Yankee fans who like him are secretly hoping that one day he will give them his leftovers.

Nice!

Jeter truely is the Cal Ripken of the 00's!

What really has galled me is how people have made the claim that Jeter somehow has elevated SS for the Yankees to the status that Yankee CF has. REALLY? One future HOFer does not a glamour position make! And don't try to gerrymander Rizzuto into the equation, many arguments (including an entire book) have been made against his inshrinement, plus SS has been a sporadic history in between. The Mets have a more soild lineage at SS than the Yanks do through the years!

Yancy Street Gang
Sep 14 2006 10:12 AM

The Mets have a better history at shortstop than the Yankees?

That would be hard to argue.

They've had sporadic offense there (before Reyes) from guys like HoJo and Hubie Brooks, and a couple of gloves in Harrelson and Ordonez. But it's hardly been a strength for them until now.

Did somebody actually write a book about Phil Rizzuto not being qualified for Cooperstown? I agree, but that sounds like overkill. Who would bother to write such a book? And who would invest the time in reading it?

seawolf17

And who would waste their time discussing this garbage in a forum dedicated to yelling at each other? Fucking morons.

Actually it was the inspiration for Bill James' book about the Hall of Fame. Rizzuto is just a part of it, and the framework to where most of the debates come from, Don Drysdale represents the pitching arguments, specifically the Drysdale vs Pappas debate

Edgy DC
Sep 14 2006 10:26 AM

The book wasn't really specifically against his enshrinement, but against the politics and the nebulous standards that fed into the Hall of Fame question.

SteveJRogers
Sep 14 2006 10:28 AM

Great book BTW, not just for the debates, but a great account of how the Hall came to Cooperstown and the evloution of baseball research

We're just keeping out ranting skills up to snuff until a real arguement with another CPF-er comes along. And who better to practice them on than Jeter? He brings out the best in all of us.

And, "fucking morons"?
If we were fucking morons, or someone with higher intelligence, how would we have been able to keep our hands on the keyboard?

I'm going with longevity of the tennants of the positions through the years.

There is a listing of Willie Randolph's SS partners and Ron Guidry's catchers in Damned Yankees by Madden and Moss that detailed the lack of stability at those positions during the Bronx Zoo era. I'd wager that the Mets had half of those numbers, and they were both quite lenthy (Guidry from 76-88, Randolph 76-88)

If "solid" means keeping Rey Ordonez at shortstop for years because he was overpaid and untradeable then I think I'd prefer fluidity.

Okay, you win that one!

Edgy DC
Sep 14 2006 11:01 AM

Roy Smalley was still better than Ron Gardenhire, even if he didn't last much longer. Bucky Dent, though naturally over-rated, was probably better than Frank Taveras also. I'll call Raffy Santana/Bobby Meacham a wash.

Even then, Jeter and Reyo came up at the same exact time.

If you go from 1962-1996, I'd be happy to call it even, but I think I'd be biased.
