Does Wright really need a day off?

He was just getting hot.

I think since the clincher Willie has decided to pull a Billy Martin and just draw random lineups out of a hat!

Billy Martin is like the last manager that comes to mind when I think of Willie.

I think there's a small bit of Billy Martin in Willie Randolph. Maybe more than a small bit.

Just not the raging sociopath bit.

Willie has said Billy and Joe are his major influences as a manager.

What, no love for Danny Murtaugh? Lou Piniella? Clyde King? Gene Michael? Dick Hoswer? Bob Lemon? Tommy Lasorda? Jeff Torborg? Tony LaRussa? Tom Treblehorn?

Trax is in immediate trouble - runners on the corners, none out in the first.

1-0 Nats on the sac fly.

Yeah, I was thinking personality traits re: Willie/Billy.

ScarletKnight41

Trax gets out of the first with only giving up one run. Not bad, all things considered.

Might as well get my daily whine in.

Six straight.

If this game gets rained out, there's no point in making it up. It's a truly meaningless game.

Reyes back in the steal business.

Good throw, though.

Cedeño tailed off at the end of his 66-steal season, also.

Armas comes to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out. He hits into a double play, with one run scoring. 2-0 Nats, runner on 3rd, two out.

Trax makes a good fielding play to get Castro at first and end the inning. 2-0 in the middle of the second.

Ralph in the park, but not in the booth? Boo!

Very nice DP turnage by Jose Valentin as Ryan Church flips him over.

Gary Cohen: "Valentin taken out by Church on Sunday."

How long has he been waiting to use that?

That 1b ump really screwed the pootch there-
he clearly called that grounder down the line foul and then changed his call in mid stride.
Two more runs in for the Nats -
5-1.

Watchin that sub commercial w/ Willie and Joe.
Maybe Willie can manage--he [u:d6486e153e]cant[/u:d6486e153e] act.

Its pouring in Philly and the game will be delayed in the 7th with the Phightins up 9-5.
Games official, but since they are playin the Fish they will try to get the rest of that game in.

Dodgers play later this afternoon,1/2 game behind the Phils in the wild card race.

This really sucks.
Only game I get to see all week and they black it out in the last few frames.
And Humbers pitchin!
What a rip.

Not a bad inning of work. A little shakiness with Lopez, but the job was gotten done.

Lets hope that was the first of many, many, many innings in a Met uniform!

Zvon
Sep 24 2006 04:19 PM

Would be nice if the Mets scored 5 runs here and got him a win.
Would be nice to see it happen.
But Ill settle for hearing it go down.
Or reading it.....

im pissed

The few, the...uhh maybe not so proud, the one inning Mets:

Bob Gibson 7/25/1987
Manny Hernandez 9/16/1989
Bill Pecota Non Pitcher 9/26/1992
Kenny Greer 9/29/1993
Derek Bell Non Pitcher 8/22/2000
Desi Relaford Non Pitcher 5/17/2001
Todd Zeile Non Pitcher 7/26/2004
Philip Humber 9/24/2006

I find it interesting that all of the one-inning career appearances by Mets have all come within the last 20 years. Especially how pitching strapped the Mets were back in the pre-Gil/Rube years

how bad was that foul ball call, anyways? was the ball really foul, or did the ump just foul it up by not calling it fair all the way?

i was getting concessions at the time...
