The Mets in the NLDS

Soon the Mets will be playing in their third National League Divison series. They've played eight NLDS games, all in 1999 and 2000, winning 6 and losing 2. But what of individual accomplishments in NLDS play? Who are the Mets all-time NLDS leaders in various batting and pitching categories? You need wonder no more! Here, in this very thread, are the answers to the questions that have been tormenting your soul. None of the current Mets have played in the past Division Series for the Mets, so the 2006ers gunning for these records are all starting at zero. There are 12 Mets who have played in both the 1999 and 2000 series, so they have a bit of an advantage that may help them retain their records, at least for this year. But despite that, many of the totals are within reach. (I'll bet Jose Reyes, for example, has his eye on getting that first triple.) For the record, the 12 Mets who played in both previous series are Benny Agbayani, Edgardo Alfonzo, Armando Benitez, Dennis Cook, John Franco, Darryl Hamilton, Al Leiter, Mike Piazza, Todd Pratt, Rick Reed, Robin Ventura, and Turk Wendell. If the Mets had promoted Edgardo Alfonzo this summer, he would have had the chance to pad some impressive totals. It would bode well for the 2006 Mets if some of his records could fall. If the Mets advance to the NLCS this year, I'll post a similar thread, one that will have a larger variety of names. In one NLDS (4 games), Rickey reached nine times, stole six bases, and scored five times. I've got to think that's easily the NLDS stolen-base record. He was 40.

WP isn't the biggest Glavine fan in the world. While we are beyond the "inbedded Brave" point, his age has really shown itself, especially in the second half of 2006.

Glavine in August & September: 9 GS, 57.3 IP, 3.46 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 6.28 K/9, 2.20 BB/9, 0.63 HR/9 Compared to his career: 635 GS, 4149.7 IP, 3.46 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 5.38 K/9, 3.03 BB/9, .70 HR/9 Glavine sucked in June & July, but he's been hot for 2 months. The only number there that's not better than his career average is IP/GS, and not by a lot: 6.37 IP compared to 6.54. Let's keep rollin', Tommy!

And another double by David Wright will tie a record. Also, keep an eye on Carlos Beltran and his walk total. Matching Robin Ventura's club record would be a real feather in his cap.

Mets won their third Divisional Series in three tries, snapping a tie with the Florida Marlins for most series wins without dropping a series (yeah small sample size, but still) Did you know, who holds the record for most Divisional Series losses without ever winning a single series

Houston lost 7 straight w/o winning one - although that streak is no longer active - finally breaking through in 2004 & 2005

7 straight postseason series though. That includes the 1980 and 1986 NLCSs Dodgers lost 7 straight WS (last five to the MFY) before winning the 1955 WS! I'm pretty sure that has to be the record for one round with never winning one, untill winning, will look it up when I feel like it! =;)
