That's like 5 blocks from where I work. Unless I get picked for jury duty the day before that damned towel is mine.

I wonder how the towel compares to the Fandini?

Yeah, see ya Vic, unless of course I am sitting in the Brooklyn courthouse waiting to serve my civic duty.

But if you do, tell us all about it

What's cool is that they have Koosman and Wilson: two guys who are culturally very non-New York, but culturally associated as much as anybody with the team's two world championships.

Though I guess Bud Harrelson --- and maybe Pete Flynn? --- is the only one with both rings. Do broadcasters get the bling?

That thing Murph used to wear had to be a WS ring

I'm sure I've told this story before -

Jackie Robinson night, whatever year that was '97, '98 - I'm sitting in my seat and Bud Harrelson plops himself right down in box next to mine. i'm literally rubbing elbows with the guy.

I tell him what a big fan I am, etc., etc., and he's very nice, very courteous, a really super guy. I noticed his WS ring and asked if I could take a closer look. He took it off his finger and handed it to me. Then he got up and walked away up the aisle into the bowels of the stadium.

I'm sitting there with his WS ring in my hand and he's gone.

About an inning or so later (seriously he was gone that long) he comes back and I give him back the ring. 'Bud, you just gave me your ring without having any idea who I was and walked away. For all you know I could have left with it.'

'Ahh, big deal' he says 'that's the '86 ring. '69 is home with my dad, no one gets to touch that one.'

So, after you gave him back the ring, how long was it until he unlocked the handcuffs to the box seat railing?

Good story.

Stopped by for ~30 mins at lunch.

Good sized crowd all the way down 51st but being herded into pens ain't my cup of meat so I took an distant but unobstructed view along the North side, toward 8th.

They "entertained" the crowd beforehand by playing Sweet Freaking Caroline. I swear to Gardenhire, whoever makes these decisions is a major tool. Howie finally came out, along with Juan Alicea the Spanish language broadcaster, Gary C, some guy from Channel 11. Gary talked way too loud into his mic. They brought a prerecorded message from LoDuca, went "live" to Glavine & Omar at the Sea workout (the crew wasn't ready for Glavine so they all stood around waiting). Koosman came out for an interview, Bloomberg tried to start a LGM chant but did so in the wrong cadence and it didn't take.

Everyone agreed that the Mets are special but you fans out there are even more special.

I must've got there just as you were leaving JD. Just in time for that tool to sing the new "yea-dy yea-dy yeah" Mets theme. More prerecorded thank yous to the fans (Valentin, Reyes), a live chat with Shawn Green (who'd like to "kill" the Dodgers). Then an in-person Mookie, which is never a bad thing.

By the way, I didn't see any rally towels, only rally placards.

They were playing "yea-dy yea-dy yeah" when I arrived too. Sounded like a Mulligan on "Our Team, Our Time."

Mr. Zero

they showed about twenty seconds of Mookie highlights accompanied by the traditional "Meet the Mets" theme (instrumental). that's all you really need to get the blood pumping, no?

Or, as old time NY radio personality Ted Brown used to say, "Bring your wife. Bring your girl friend. Bring 'em both."

It seems that appearing at that rally has really <a href=http://www.ultimatemets.com/lookups.php?MonthNum=10&year=2006>paid off for Jerry Koosman.

A lot of fans are probably wondering, who was that old guy at the Mets rally?

Well, if Piazza's team can overcome their 2-0 defecit then he's welcome too.
