No instrumentals please!

Kicking it off with:

Boy, the way Glenn Miller played
Songs that made the Hit Parade
Guys like us, we had it made
Those were the days

Didn't need no welfare state
Everybody pulled his weight
Gee, our old La Salle ran great
Those were the days

And you knew WHERE YOU WERE THHHHHEEEEN!
Girls were girls, and men were men
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again

People seemed to be content
Fifty dollars paid the rent
Freaks were in a circus tent
Those were the days

Take a little Sunday spin
Go to watch the Dodgers win
Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin

Hair was short and skirts were long
Kate Smith really sold a song
I just don't know what went wrong
Those were the days

One of my favorite old shows...

The Black Adder (episodes 1-5)

The sound of hoof beats 'cross the glade.
Good folk, lock up your son and daughter.
Beware the deadly flashing blade,
Unless you want to end up shorter.

Black Adder, Black Adder. He rides a pitch black steed.
Black Adder, Black Adder. He's very bad indeed.

Black. His gloves of finest mole.
Black. His codpiece made of metal.
His horse is blacker than a hole.
His pot is blacker than his kettle.

Black Adder, Black Adder. With many an cunning plan.
Black Adder, Black Adder. You horrid little man!

Love
Love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talking girl comes along
Singing her song
Don't mess around
You gotta be strong
Just stop! (Stop!)
'Cause I really love you
Stop! (Stop!)
I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

You
You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those girls start hanging around
Talking me down
Hear with your heart and you won't hear a sound
Just stop! (Stop!)
'Cause I really love you
Stop! (Stop!)
I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together
What ever.

Young and beautiful
Someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on?
I will, I will, I will

I will
Be there to share forever
Love will keep us together
Said it before and I'll say it again
While others pretend
I'll need you now and I'll need you then
Stop! (Stop!)
'Cause I really love you
op! (Stop!)
I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

This is alphabetical by show? How about giving some of us thematically challenged a break and naming the show?

Well, here's one that has the name embedded in it.

Daniel Boone was the daddy of them all,
Was the daddy of them all,
Was the daddy of them all,

Daniel Boone heard the western country call,
From the mountains to the Ohio!

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed.

People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?

Well listen to this. I am Mister Ed.

Yes its by show since most of the titles are obscure. I mean how many people really know Cheers' theme is called "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" well yeah its the first line of the chorus and all, but still many song titles keep the name of the show, i.e. "Theme From The Dukes Of Hazzard (The Good Old Boys)" is how that song is titled on Waylon Jennings CDs

I'd figured that everyone would know the first one came from All In The Family, but yeah, its a good idea going forward to put names on the songs

BTW, I need a ruling here, would "Suicide Is Painless" count as the lyrics were used only in the movie?

Family Ties
I bet we been together for a million years,
And I bet we'll be together for a million more.

Oh, It's like I started breathing on the night we kissed,
And I can't remember what I ever did before.

What would we do baby, Without Us?
What would we do baby, Without Us?

And there ain't no nothing we can't love each other through.

What would we do baby, Without Us?

Sha la la la.

Sorry, too easy.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
the skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour, a three hour tour………
The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the Minnow would be lost; the Minnow would be lost.
The ship took ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
with Gilligan, the Skipper too,
the Millionaire, and his Wife,
the Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days.
Thursday, Friday, Happy Days.
The weekend comes,
My cycle hums,
Ready to race to you.

These days are all,
Happy and Free. (Those Happy Days)
These days are all,
Share them with me. (oh baby)
Goodbye grey sky, hello blue.
There's nothing can hold me when I hold you.
Feels so right, it can't be wrong.
Rockin' and rollin' all week long.

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days.
Thursday, Friday, Happy Days.
Saturday, What a day,
Groovin' all week with you.

These days are all,

There's a certain couple that I know.
They're strictly lovebirds,
A pair of turtle dove birds.
He's a guy who wants the world to know.
So ev'ry day
You'll hear him say

I Love Lucy and she loves me,
We're as happy as two can be,
sometimes we quarrel but then again
How we love making up again.

Lucy kisses like no one can,
She's my missus and I'm her man;
And life is heaven you see
Cause I Love Lucy
Yes I Love Lucy
and Lucy loves me.

Jimmy Durante Show:

You gotta start off each day with a song
Now even when things go wrong
You'll feel better, you'll even look better
I'm here to tell you that you'll be a go-getter
Now the way that you shake my hand
Will tell me how I stand
Now isn't it better to go through life with a smile and a song
Then walking around life with a face, 11 miles long
Now you know that you can't go wrong
If you start off each day with a song

You gotta start off each day with a song
(oh sing it to me boy)
Even when things go wrong
(sing it for the hoi-poloi)
You'll feel better, you'll even look better
Ah, that music it does somethin' to me.
I wish I knew what it was
Last night I was telling Umbriago about my latest concerto
Called Tony's push cart
He said Tony's push cart, how does it go
I said it doesn't go you have to push it.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
I got a million of 'em, a million of 'em
Now you know that you can't go wrong
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yes)
If you start off each day with a song

You gotta start off each..... boys please, soft, soft
A little more fortissimo
I wanna relate a yarn
Turn back the pages of history and what do you see
Madison Square Garden, a Rodeo
And there I was
Interviewing a prize winning cow.
I asked her to tell the radio public how she feels
She said mooooooooo
She's contented, I'm contented
But her husband ain't
So what happens?
The bull ups to me, I ups to him
And without any preliminaries
I'm flat on my back
Being a gentlemen I apologize
But the bull's not satisfied.
He demands an autopsy
So I grabs him by the tail and what happens
He flips his tail
I lands on his head
He flips his head
I lands on his tail
He's playing ping pong with me
And I'm losing
Just then the bull is ready to charge again
I gets an idea
I starts singing South Of The Border Down Mexico Way
And what happens
The bull starts crying
But even regardless I keeps on singin'
This time with the castanets
That's too much for the bull and he collapses.
A cheer goes up, I'm saved and the moral is
You've gotta start off each day with a song

You gotta start off each day with a song
(oh boy your singing now)
Even when things go wrong
(oh Jimmy your a wow)
You'd feel better,
You know I'm walking down Broadway
And who taps me on the shoulder
My pal, Hit 'Em In The Head Schwartz
I said who you working for now
He said the same bunch
The wife and the kids
Ha ha ha ha ha

Now isn't it better to go through life with a smile and a song
Then walking around with a face 11 miles long
Now you know that you can't go wrong
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yes)
If you start off each day with a song

I have been a fan of the Flash Gordon movies (serials) since I was a kid. In fact, my nickname in high school was Flash. So my theme song, and my entrance music at Shea, would be:

Words and music by Brian May (Queen)

Flash - Ah - Saviour of the universe
Flash - Ah - He'll save ev'ry one of us

Flash - Ah - He's a miracle
Flash - Ah - King of the impossible
He's for ev'ry one of us
Stand for ev'ry one of us
He'll save with a mighty hand
Ev'ry man ev'ry woman ev'ry child
With a mighty Flash

Flash - Ah
Flash - Ah - He'll save ev'ry one of us
Just a man with a man's courage
He knows nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No one but the pure in heart
May find the golden grail oh oh oh oh
Flash Flash I love you

It's the New Zoo Revue, coming right at you . . .
Where three delightful animals have fun with what they do.

We learn with our friend Doug (our friend Doug!) I'm his helper Emmy Jo (Emmy Jo!)
With Freddie! Charlie! Henrietta! We have fun learning what we don't know.

Delicate and feminine is Henrietta Hippo.
Very wise and very smart is Charlie the Owl. (Whooo!)
Not so smart but lots of heart is Freddie the Frog.

It's quite an unusual thing, the animals talk and sing . . .
With Doug and Emmy Jo, every day's a different show!

We've been on the run. Driving in the sun. Looking out for #1.
California here we come. Right back where we started from.

Hustlers grab your guns. Your shadow weighs a ton. Driving down the 101.
California here we come. Right back where we started from.

California! Here we come!

On the stereo. Listen as we go.
Nothing's gonna stop me now.

I have to leave work now, but i wanted to get my "S" song in before i left.
(because, as you might know, all threads lead to my "S")

So, please, somebody else do "R".

Spider-man, Spider-man
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size
Catches thieves, just like flies
Look out! Here comes the Spider-man!

Is he strong? Listen, Bud!
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Hey there, there goes the Spider-man!

In the chill of night,
At the scene of the crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time

Spider-man, Spider-man
Friendly neighborhood Spider-man
Wealth and fame, he's ignored
Action is his reward

To him, life is a great big bang-up
Wherever there's a hang-up
You'll find the Spider-man!

The Rebel, Johnny Yuma
Song was part of Johnny Cash's stage show finale medley for years (apparantly anyway)

Johnny Yuma was a rebel
He roamed through the west
Did Johnny Yuma, the rebel
He wandered alone

He got fightin' mad
This rebel lad
He packed no star
As he wandered far
Where the only law
Was a hook and a draw
The rebel, Johnny Yuma

He searched the land
This restless lad
He was panther quick
And leather tough
If he figured that
He'd been pushed enough
The rebel, Johnny Yuma

Fightin' mad
This rebel lad
With a dream he'd hold
'Til his dyin' breath
He'd search his soul
And gamble with death
The rebel, Johnny Yuma

Hit the road, Jack
And don't you come back

Hit the road, Jack
And don't you come back
No more! No More! No more! No More!
Hit the road, Jack

Oh, woman oh woman
Don't you treat me so mean!
You're the meanest ol' woman

From the show Valerie/ Valerie's Family/ The Hogan Family (title changed as the star changed from Valerie Harper to Sandy Duncan)

Life is such a sweet insanity
The more you learn the less you know
In the heart of every family
There’s a love that starts by letting go.

Step by step and day by day,
Reaching out along the way
Hand in hand we think of you
Together through the years we get stronger

Happiness and tears
And in our minds we share
The laughter and the sadness
A special kind of gladness
Together through the years

Life is such a sweet insanity
It’s nice to know your friends are here
In the heart of every family
There’s a love that’s waiting there for you.
Through the years.

When Things Were Rotten

Original Air Dates: Sept. 1975 - Dec. 1975 (13 episodes) (ABC)

Music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams - Based on an idea by Mel Brooks

Once upon a time when things were rotten. Not just food, but also kings were rotten
Everybody kicked the peasants. Things were bad and that ain't good
Then came Robin Hood
Soon the band of merry men begotten. They wore outfits made of plain green cotton.
Helping victims was their business. Boy oh boy was business good.
Good for Robin Hood

They laughed, they loved. They fought, they drank. They jumped a lot of fences.
They robbed the rich, gave to the poor, except what they kept for expenses.
So when other legends are forgotten we'll remember back when things were rotten.
Yay for Robin Hood!

They laughed, they loved. They fought, they drank. They jumped a lot of fences.
They robbed the rich, gave to the poor, except what they kept for expenses.
So when other legends are forgotten we'll remember back when things were rotten.

Since this was a spoken voice over the instrumental theme, I’m not sure it counts. But since there are no other X shows I’m aware of, it will have to suffice:

In the time of ancient gods, warlords, and kings a land in toil cried out for a hero. She was Xena - a mighty princess . . . forged in the heat of battle. The power, the passion, the danger. Her courage will change the world.

As for Y, (My favorite show of the time)

They sing of Yancey Derringer on every danger trail,
On riverboat, in manor house and now and then in jail.

They say that Yancy Derringer had ruffles at his wrists,
Brocade and silver buckles and iron in his fists.

Yancy, Yancy Derringer, Yancy, Yancy Derringer.
In every tale of derring do, they tell of Yancy D.

Carves a "Z" with his blade,

Zorro, Zorro, who makes the sign of the Z.

He is polite,
But the wicked take flight

We chased lady luck, 'til we finally struck Bonanza.
With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope, planted a family tree. We got hold of a pot of gold, Bonanza.
With a horse and a saddle, and a range full of cattle, how rich can a fellow be?

On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name, fortune smiled, the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.
Here in the West, we're livin' the best, Bonanza, if anyone fights any one of us, he's go a fight with me, Bonanza.

Hoss and Joe and Adam know every rock and pine, no one works, fights, or eats, like those boys of mine. Here we stand in the middle of a grand Bonanza.
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope, we planted our family tree, we got hold of a potful of gold, Bonanza.

With a houseful of friends where the rainbow ends, how rich can a fellow be?
On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name, fortune smiled, the day we filed the Ponderosa claim. Here in the west we're livin' the best Bonanza.

With the friendliest, fightingist, loving band, that ever set foot in the promised land, and we're happier than them all.
That's why we call it Bonanza...Bonanza...Bonanza...

Well, if no one else will join in...

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.
But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....
Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

The Ed Sullivan Show Theme

There's no business like show business, like no business I know

Everything about it is appealing
Everything the traffic will allow
Nowhere could you get that happy feeling
When you are stealing that extra bow

There's no people like show people
They smile when they are low

Yesterday they told you you would not go far
That night you open and there you are
Next day on your dressing room they've hung a star
Let's go on with the show

The cowboys, the wrestlers, the tumblers, the clowns
The roustabouts that move the show at dawn
The music, the spotlight, the people, the towns
Your baggage with the labels pasted on
The sawdust and the horses and the smell
The towel you've taken from the last hotel

There's no business like show business, like no business I know

You get word before the show has started
That your favorite uncle died at dawn
Top of that, your ma and pa have parted
You're broken-hearted, but you go on

There's no people like show people they don't run out of dough

Angels come from everywhere with lots of jack
And when you lose it there's no attack
Where could you get money that you don't give back?
Let's go on with the show

The costumes, the scenery, the make-up, the props
The audience that lifts you when you're down
The headaches, the heartaches, the backaches, the flops
The sheriff who escorts you out of town
The op'ning when your heart beats like a drum
The closing when the customers won't come

There's no business like show business like no business I know

Everything about it is appealing
Everything the traffic will allow
Nowhere could you get that happy feeling
When you are stealing that extra bow

There's no people like show people
They smile when they are low

Even with a turkey that you know will fold
You may be stranded out in the cold
Still you wouldn't 'change for a sack of gold
Let's go on with the show, let's go on with the show

The end of the Civil War was near
when quite accidentally,
A hero who sneezed, abruptly seized
retreat and reversed it to victory.

His medal of honor pleased and thrilled
his proud little family group.
While pinning it on some blood was spilled
and so it was planned he’d command ... F-Troop.

Where Indian fights are colorful sights & nobody takes a lickin’
Where pale face and redskin both turn chicken.

When killing and fighting get them down,
they know their morale can’t droop.
As long as they all relax in town
before they resume with a bang and a boom ... F-Troop.

George, George, George of the jungle
Strong as he can be
Ahhh
Watch out for that tree

George, George, George of the jungle
lives a life thats free
Ahhh
Watch out for that tree

When he gets in scrapes
When he makes his escapes
With the help of his friend
An ape named Ape

Then away he'll schlep
On his elephant Shep
While Fella and Ursula
Stay in step with

George, George, George of the jungle
Friend to you and me
Ahhh
Watch out for that tree
Watch out for that (Ahhh) (Oooh) tree
George, George, George of the Jungle
Friend to you and me

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days.
Thursday, Friday, Happy Days. The Weekend comes, my cycle hums, ready to race to you.

These days are ours. Happy and free. (Oh Happy Days)
These days are ours. Share them with me. (Oh Baby)

Goodbye gray skies, Hello Blue, 'cause nothing can hold me when I hold you.
Feels so right it can't be wrong, rockin' and rollin' all week long.

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days.
Thursday, Friday, Happy Days. Saturday, what a day, groovin' all week with you.

These days are ours. Share them with me. (oh Happy Days)
These days are ours. Happy and free. (oh Happy Days)

These Happy Days are yours and mine.
These Happy Days are yours and mine.

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days.
Thursday, Friday, Happy Days. Saturday, what a day, rockin' all week with you.

These days are ours. Won’t you be mine. (Oh Happy Days)
This day is ours (Oh Happy Days) Oh please be mine.

Hello sunshine, goodbye rain, she’s wearing my high school ring on her chain.
She’s my steady, I’m her man, I’m gonna love her all I can.

Gonna cruise her round the town, show everybody what I’ve found.
Rock’n’roll with all my friends. Hopin’ the music never ends.

These Happy Days are yours and mine (oh Happy Days)
These Happy Days are yours and mine (oh Happy Days)
These Happy Days are yours and mine, Happy Days.

Well we’re movin on up, to the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up to the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don’t fry in the kitchen;
Beans don’t burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin’ just to get up that hill.
Now we’re up in the big leagues
Gettin’ our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it’s you and me baby
There ain’t nothin wrong with that.

Well we’re movin on up, to the East Side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up to the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Song: Kate and Allie Lyrics
Just when you think there's no one around who's caring,
along comes a friend who offers a hand in sharing,
and things start looking fine.

Sometimes tears and sorrow are all the things you've got
and just when you think you're all by yourself, you're not.

Love, exciting and new
Come Aboard. We're expecting you.
Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.
The Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.
Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
Yes LOVE! It's LOVE!
Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.
Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
It's LOVE! It's LOVE! It's LOVE!
It's the Love Boat-ah! It's the Love Boat-ah!

Who is the tall, dark stranger there?

Maverick is the name.

Ridin’ the trail to who knows where,

Luck is his companion. Gamblin’ is his game.

Smooth as the handle on a gun.

Maverick is the name.

Wild as the wind in Oregon,

Blowin’ up a canyon, easier to tame.

Riverboat, ring your bell. Fare thee well, Annabel.

Luck is the lady that he loves the best.

Natchez to New Orleans. Livin' on jacks and queens

Maverick is a legend of the west.

Luck is the lady that he loves the best.

Natchez to New Orleans. Livin' on jacks and queens

Maverick is a legend of the west.

Maverick is a legend of the west.

Naked City (lyrics unknown) years 1958-1960

Somewhere In The Night years 1960-1963

Somewhere in the night chasing shadows around the bend.
Somewhere in the night chasing rainbows that have no end.
In the misty light you are mine and you hold me fast,
But dreams have a way of calling it a day
They seldom last my dreams have past.
But in my lonely flight I'll keeping searching till time is through.
For somewhere in the night till I find you.
