Mets MVP voting

I thought it might be fun (but what do I know) to vote, MVP-style, for the most valuable Met of the year. I can leverage my magic Schaefer spreadsheet for this task, so if you're interested in voting, just enter your picks Schaefer style (the players last name followed by a number; include a first initial if you vote for any of the three Hernandezes).

Vote for ten players, giving your top choice ten points, your second choice nine points, etc.

I'll do the tallying next week. Try to vote, if you can, before the playoffs start on Wednesday night, lest ye be unduly influenced by NLDS heroics.

If possible, let's save the comments until the voting is closed, or put them in a discussion thread. (Thanks.)

I'll start:

Beltran 10
Reyes 9
Wright 8
Delgado 7
Lo Duca 6
Glavine 5
Wagner 4
OHernandez 3
Valentin 2
Chavez 1

True, so true - but whom should I eliminate?

On edit - OK, the obvious choice is Trachsel, but sheesh, the guy gets no love and mine will probably be the only ballot where he gets mentioned. Besides, I doubt that when I get to the Pearly Gates, St. Peter rubs his chin and says something like, "Hmmmm....aren't you the guy who left Billy Wagner off of your 2006 ballot for Met MVP on the Crane Pool Forum?" Could happen, but I'll take my chances.

Hopefully we won't visit that project for another month yet.

Wagner did nothing for me for the regular season. For the contract, non-playoff
appearances that are not automatic like every time ... yawn. We can give Wagner
props come end of playoffs ... or call for tar and feathering.

Do you do this on purpose?

Oct 02 2006 04:20 PM

KC...the original post said "MVP....of the year" (not of the regular season)...the year isn't over yet, my top 9 choices have solidified these spots IMO regardless of the playoffs...both Maine and El'Duque have had moments of unexpected success...so far, IMO, neither has anchored a vote YET, but both have hinted of deserving a vote...

His numbers were better than any other reliever though, so I ranked him higher than any reliever. I'd argue he was more valuable than any non-Glavine starter.

If contract comes into it, then Beltran should be behind Reyes and Wright.

I'm gonna close this tomorrow morning. Real MVP voters have to get their votes in before the postseason begins, so we'll stick with that rule here.

If you're interested in voting, try to do it today.

Voting for the Mets MVP is now closed. Results will be posted soon.

Benjamin Grimm
Oct 04 2006 12:27 PM

And here are the results. Ten points for a first-place vote, nine for a second-place vote, etc.

Twenty-five people voted, which is pretty close to how many baseball writers vote each year, I think. (Isn't it two from each city in the league?)
