So, who is to be among the faithful 55,000+?

Ned Fengus
Oct 02 2006 03:20 PM

I have tics for game 2 of the NLDS. I haven't lived in NY since '77 (had an early premonition that Hillary would represent the state), but I've been to Shea over 100 times conservatively. What I've never done is attend a playoff or WS game, so this is a first. To say that I am stoked would be an understatement. Yeah I know some of you have probably been to thousands of games, but c'mon.

Elster88

I would posit that a large percentage of the 55,000 will be unfaithful.

I'll be at home in front of my TV, and I'm pretty darn excited, too.

I'm also glad that I have TiVo; some time around the third inning or so I'm going to have to run out and pick up my kids. How nice it'll be to have that pause button!

For those of you who have tickets, I hope you have a great time. I've been to five postseason games at Shea*, and the Mets lost four of them, including the first three. It's still great to be there, but it's much better when they win!

* 1986 NLCS Game 4, 1986 World Series Games 1, 2, and 6, and 1988 NLCS Game 4.

My quote had nothing to do with the Yankees. My point was that a huh-yuge number of the 55,000 with be bandwagoners and/or little rich pricks who are doing the trendy thing by going to the ball game.

If the Mets get two losses, you'll be hoping for a Game 5.

I'm hoping they never even get that first loss. Ideally, the Mets will win three consecutive close and exciting games.

I'm in the same boat, but they say your credit card will be refunded if there is no Game 5. Anything else is probably illegal.

Right now (this may change) I'm thinking that I only want a Game 5 only if it's a guaranteed Met win.

I will also be at Game 1 tomorrow.

The 4:00 start is pretty perfect for me as it makes it easier for my son to go to a playoff game and miss the minimum amount of school.

I'm coming into work in the morning. My friend will pick up my 9 year-old from school at about 12:30 pm and I will met them both at the The Big Shea.

Will be maybe my 8th postseason game at Shea. I don't think my record's too good, maybe .500, but this year I've got the facial hair working it.

Edgy DC

To those of you who may be planning on keeping your beard, don't buy a cheap beard-trimmer. My first one was about $20 (because I was still iffy on whether or not I'd keep it) and it tugged painfully at my face. My second one was a $50 model (I read the reviews on Amazon.com) and it's much nicer.

I have tix for Game 2. Anybody know when they'd play on Friday in the event of a rainout these next two nights?

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 11 2006 09:22 AM

It would be an afternoon game, because the ALCS is scheduled for Friday night.

It would either be at 1 or 4, I'd imagine.

My larger concern is in what that would do to the Mets pitching rotation, as noted in the NLCS rotation thread.

Johnny Dickshot
Oct 11 2006 09:35 AM

I don't think that's correct YSG. They've scheduled them concurrently tonight (the "regional" game on the main Foxy channel and the other on FX).

The reason the Mets had a possible 4pm start was because the MFYs might have also been playing.

Ha!

Frayed Knot
Oct 11 2006 09:38 AM

]It would be an afternoon game, because the ALCS is scheduled for Friday night. ... It would either be at 1 or 4, I'd imagine.

Not neccesarily.
Both games today are at 8PM on a "split national" format; your "market game" on the FOX network with the backup on F/X. A double game Friday could very well work the same way.

FOX went to this for the first Game1/Game2 conflict a few years back based apparently on the assumption that even games competing against each other is better (for ratings and such) sticking one in the afternoon - although why they don't choose to at least slightly stagger them (8:00/9:30 starts maybe) is lost on me.
They won't do that for a potential Game6/Game7 conflict next week - but by then it frequently doesn't matter since one series or the other is over.

HahnSolo
Oct 11 2006 09:48 AM

i was under the assumption that it would be Friday afternoon because the travel day would be lost, and they would not play Friday night, travel, then play Saturday night.
Similar to the Yankees last week playing thursday afternoon, then traveling and playing in Detroit on Friday night.
I was more concerned about whether it would be at 1 or 4...there are work scheduling issues to deal with.

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 11 2006 09:48 AM

That's true; I hadn't thought of that. I was remembering that the Yankees-Tigers makeup game was played at 1 p.m., but in the Division Series there were four sets of teams playing and now there are only two.

Rotblatt
Oct 11 2006 10:04 AM

There's a 50% chance of "showers" at 8:00, rising to 60% at 9:00, then a chance of "rain/thunder" holding steady at 70% from 10:00 through 3:00 a.m.

I have a bad feeling about tonight.

I'll be pissed if we can't get the game in. We'll be relying on our bullpen an awful lot, and losing a day's rest will really hurt us. Plus, it will mean that Carpenter pitches Game 2 on Friday instead of Game 3 on Saturday, which means he can start Game 6 on regular rest.

I'm in the loge outfield, I think. There's a pretty open space behind home

This Afternoon: A chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 67. East wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

The crowd was great for last night's game. I will also give props to either the city or the Mets...whoever was responsible for parking. We arrived near Shea at 7, and followed signs to alternate Shea parking, wound up out past the unisphere, parked on a makeshift lot ($18), then a shuttle bus to the LIRR station and a short walk to the stadium, and we were in our seats by 7:30. I'd still recommend arriving early, but they seem better organized this year as opposed to years past.

Oh, and attending last night reminded me of a great feeling at Shea: looking at the out of town scoreboard, and having it blank.
