Lucky clothes, lucky charms, lucky chairs

I went through my closet this morning looking for just the right outfit, and I decided my 1986 World Champions sweatshirt was just a little too threadbare, my Mets tee shirts are not warm enough, and the plastic rain poncho probably would be too noisy.

Then I saw it, glowing in the 40 watt lamplight! My Mets orange hoodie!

So I'll be wearing it to work over a blue turtleneck and either my black wind pants or my navy blue scrub pants. (I drew the line at wearing my orange scrub pants with an orange over sized hoodie)

Bernie shirt is to be used in emergency.

No beard.

What are you guys doing for luck?

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 04 2006 07:51 AM

Nothing. The last time I did something for luck it backfired horribly. I was convinced that the only way the Mets would win Game 7 of the 1988 NLCS was if I was eating Kentucky Fried Chicken while watching the game. I went to great lengths to find a KFC (I was in a hotel that night) and we all know how that turned out.

My beard turns 4 (days) today. I looked like a scraggly amish wannabe. Coming in sparsely on the front of the chin, and heavy along the ridge. My mustache is pathetic (huge bald spot right beneath the nose, but heavy near the corners of the mouth.

Shaved the neck/throat yesterday or I'd have gone wild with itchiness.

Amazinly, Wifey still hasn't noticed.

Started the goatee (trans: stopped shaving) after the Mets lost the second game to Atlanta, so my goat is riding this 4 game win streak. Keeping it for now.

You could say it has been bad luck for the pitching staff but wins is wins.

Changed the homescreen background on my Blackberry from the 'NEW YORK' from the Mets road grays which had been there for a while to a Mr. Met after news of Duque's lameness.

We'll see where this gets us.

Ya Gotta Believe necklace.

Little blue and orange bracelets.

Mets bracelet that KB gave me at the 1986 reunion game.

Mets earrings.

Mets cap.

Special good luck charm.

OK - I'm ready to leave for the game....

Question: Do we keep these beards as long as they are winning games or as long as thwey are winning series'?

Down 5-4, I finally broke out the secret weapon. Put on the Oscar Madison
hat ... I think a few of you have seen it. It's not pretty, it smells if you have the
guts to sniff it ... ground out to the pitcher, inning over.

Until the final game they play this year; either via elimination or the ultimate victory.
After that it's up to you (and your wife)

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 08 2006 12:27 AM

If they win the World Series you guys have to keep your beards until the Mets get eliminated in 2007.

And if that doesn't happen, on to 2008.

for me it has been the "Mamas special" sandwich available from the Mamas of Corona stands at Shea. I can't go to game tonight, but friend has promised to go to Corona and pick one up for me. Whether it is lucky or not, it is the most 'Amazin sandwich I have ever had.

I changed the mojo by entering through Gate E last night instead of Gate D. It had been Gate D for the entire playoffs before, but it'll be Gate E again tonight.

My lucky hat is starting to get pretty bad. It was retired from regular season use a while ago, but it's still carrying a 5-1 postseason record with it so it'll always be around for the playoffs.

Mama's at Shea are indeed quite good, but you'll get a slightly bigger sandwich for less money if you go to the actual store in Corona.

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 19 2006 02:15 PM

Is there more than one Mama's at Shea?

I'm aware of the one at Field Level. They have a little entrance corridor so you can get to it even if you don't have Field Level tickets.

It was a tasty sandwich. It's nice that ballparks have more selections than they used to.

CF, I decided I wouldn't knock on wood whenever I thought/heard something vaguely positive about a Met our our chances, which has become second nature to me in the playoffs. Needless to say, I'm not knocking on wood today either.

For those of you who saw me and were wondering what it was, it is a Columbia Bombers (their old SAL farm team) cap. I spent a lot of time there on business and got it.

Yes - the stand in the mezzanine has been the source of my lucky sandwich. even for the 2 games i sat in field level, i made a point to bypass the field level store and climb up to the mezz for the sandwich.

Ha! Those who hang out here probably shouldn't need to wonder. I remember seeing it and meaning to comment on your superior choice of headwear but must've slipped my mind.

That Cap City hat is still one of my favorite Minor League hats, up there with the old Quad City River Bandits hat.

my buddy just came through big time. he snuck out of his office at 3PM, grabbed the 7 train to Corona and delivered the sandwich to my office 15 minutes ago. Mama told him that Julio Franco was in earlier today. I guess he got tired of all the egg whites!

the mamas stand in mezzanine is located just outside section 11 if anyone going tonight is interested.

The Mrs. said to me on Tuesday night "it's too bad this isn't against the Padres, Piazza deserved to be in the playoffs again at Shea."
