I'm not sure his intent was to make Floyd run it out. I think he avoided a possible poor exchange on a toss to the pitcher covering since he could . It was quite unusual to see a first baseman take it himself when so far from the bag. Still, it would have served Pujols right if he had tweaked his sore hamstring while making the play. The play illustrated that Cliffie is in no way prepared to play a vital role in this series. He can hardly walk, let alone run.
