Hope its not heartless to say i wanna see some baseball. If it should be canceled Id think only the weather should be a deciding factor. I dont want to see Met players risking injury at this point.

I think they should play and have a moment of silence for Lidle beforehand.

Not in the current weather. Some of the coverage I'v e heard on the Lidle angle (SNY & FAN), is, to put it bluntly, way over the top. Is it selfish to say thank god it's an athlete and not a terrorist? Cory Lidle's death doesn't "put sports in perspective," the fact that for a moment everyone thought the city was under attack again is what did it. Jeez.

The question to ask is: Would they cancel if it were Jeter? The answer is they absolutely would. They should do the same for Lidle.

play ball. if it had been a AAA player would they cancel it? what if it had been a Kansas City Royal? i doubt it. if an entire team had died (say the Yankees plane returning from Detroit) then you would probably cancel tonight's game, but no one player's death should cause a cancellation.

Just seeing the rain in the backround of the ESPN update from the field---- If that dont change, cancel the game. It did not look good.

Heading out now. Rain disappated some here in bklyn. I don;'t think Q is what happens if Jeter dies but whether we play tonite.

I don't think the rain is a coincidence. Don't play. It doesn't feel right at all, at least not from home. If I were on a train pulling to the Shea stop, I might be thinking differently and I'd hate to tell 56,000 to turn around. But honestly, I'm not feelin' it. If the weather was clear they definitely should have played. I would have been shocked and annoyed if it was canceled because of this plane crash.

Moment of silence for the passing of an Ex-Met (sure two, three eras removed but still an Ex-Met nonetheless) but the NLCS game being postponed due to it? I could realistically (not a good idea either, but I can see it) see the A's doing it as he was there for 2001-2002 and some of his teammates are still there.

Derek Jeter, all jokes, all shots, all comparisions aside is one of the biggest known athletes in the world TODAY. Cory Lidle, a journyman lefty who played with a number of teams through the years, probably would have gotten a "Benson Bunch" style contract this offseason but beyond that he was just a pretty darn effective major league pitcher. Now do you want to agrue that because a God Forbid Jeter tragic passing would cause a game cancelation that they should do the same for Lidle? I'm not even saying they would for Jeter, maybe in a news sense they would cancel the New York game, but the situations are too completely different situations. Is (also God Forbid on both) David Wright or Victor Zambrano

a player on the team, cancel the game. a player from the same city, big star or no, play the game.

I agree with marathon. Even if it was Jeter, I'd play the game. Moment of silence, black armbands, Taps, whatever. But play the game.

Fair enough. Baseball is meant to be played . The best tribute to a baseball player is probably to play baseball. If he was a current or recent member of a team involved --- so that the tragedy would compromise the contest --- yeah, postpone a playoff game for a day or two. But I imagine those that knew him --- Rick Peterson, for instance --- would be ready to go. Baseball schedules suck that way. But they're great that way also.
