Down 1-2-3 in top of the first.

Matched by a 1-2-3 bottom of the first.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:22 PM

The Mets/Cubans strand two in the top of the second.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:30 PM

Another 1-2-3 inning for Ishii.

Bret Sabermetric
Jul 09 2005 07:33 PM

Ishii perfect through two!

Can this be the night?

Kaz Ishii and you--perfect together!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:34 PM

Some of us don't use that kind of language out of respect for baseball protocol.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:36 PM

Scoreless going to the bottom of the 3rd.

KC

No hitter no hitter no hitter. I have powers over the game in Pittsburgh and
just blew it for Ishii? There is nothing more irritating to me than baseball fans
not wanting to say no hitter no hitter no hitter.

KC
Jul 09 2005 07:42 PM

Ooops

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:42 PM

And the no no is no more.

Sigh....

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:46 PM

A Pittsburgh hit gives them a 1-0 lead and runners on the corners with one out.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:47 PM

A sac fly makes it 2-0 Pittsburgh.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 07:56 PM

The Pirates strand three runners. 2-0 after three.

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:03 PM

Two men on for the Cubans

And they strand them

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 08:04 PM

And they're stranded. 2-0 Pittsburgh in the middle of the fourth.

I've been waiting eagerly to see a Met pitcher throw a no no for well over 40 years, and I don't think I've ever felt more dubious after two perfect innings than I feel with Kaz Ishii. Cone, Seaver, Gooden, even Darling, Koosman, Pedro, hell, even Mlicki, Reed, Harnisch, I would have some hope extended.

But Kaz? Zilch. Zippo. Nada.

Aflac trivia: Frank Thomas and Donn Clendenon?

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:11 PM

Bret - remember Bobo Holliman.

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:14 PM

Well, I got one right.

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:21 PM

I wonder what else they're doing in Pittsburgh for African-American heritage weekend? I would hope an August Wilson Festival.

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:22 PM

And baseball history buff Mike Cameron celebrates!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 08:26 PM

I missed how this happened, but suddenly it's a ballgame. 3-2 Pittsburgh in the 5th.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 08:30 PM

Cliff Floyd goes Ka Boom! to tie the game at three!

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 08:47 PM

The first two were a

for Cammie.

TheOldMole
Jul 09 2005 09:14 PM

Couldn't be worse.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 09:15 PM

7-3 Pittsburgh and the 7th ain't over yet. Bell and Graves didn't get the job done tonight.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 09 2005 09:18 PM

Fuckshit!

Think I need some more beers...

Anyone got some Iron City anywhere?

cooby
Jul 09 2005 09:24 PM

Like Cliff doesn't have enough bruises. Throw that big fatass in jail. And his loud mouthed woman too

mlbaseballtalk
Jul 09 2005 09:31 PM

Bet the guy probably hurled a racial slur or something

At least Floyd didn't jump in.

Did like the guy's indignation as Floyd and security tried to get him removed

seawolf17
Jul 09 2005 09:33 PM

Whoa! What happened? Cliff got into it with a fan? We just got home from CT. (Full report, with photos, from the B-Mets game tomorrow morning.)

Yeah, as Floyd was running down Wilson's grand slam some slovenly young guy started to obnoxiously clap in Floyd's face and was shouting crap to him

Its possible he was giving Floyd shit all night and this was the breaking point.

Floyd didn't do anything, except just motion for security to do their thing and they ejected the fan from the stadium

TheOldMole

Good for Cliff.

I cut out after four last night, and caught the rest on tape this morning.

Some late notes: unsurprisingly, I'm unsympathetic to Cliff Floyd's complaint he didn't like the verbal treatment he got from the fan in LF. If there's no contact, and no spitting, etc., but only words, then suck it up and deal with it. That's why many players prefer playing at home, as a matter of fact. The dude got ejected because of what he SAID? If he said anything milder to Cliff than "I've got your kids trapped underground and it'll cost 3 mil to get them free before a bomb explodes" then he's good.

Speaking of which, anyone notice that at first Seaver reported Cliff had an injury, specifically to his arm, a cut on the fence, or a bruise, or a laceration ("one of the two or three" Seaver added--obviously he's been working on his math) but then changed it to "just verbal contact" on viewing the replay? Seaver does that a lot, about a few dozen times a day. "That was an outside heater at the knees. [replay] No, it was higher than I thought, about chest-high. And it was a curveball, not a fastball. And it was on the inside corner. And we're in Pittsburgh, not San Diego..."

it's to his credit that he corrects himself at all (Murphy used to drive me nuts by reporting imaginary things that the replay contradicted without correcting himself at all) but maybe he should try to report only those things he sees, not those that he half-sees. Or maybe he should pay better attention?
