At the break, Mets at Pirates, 07/10

Pedro cruising, Beltran hits his obligatory Pedro's-pitching-home-run.

Mets up 2-0 through 2 1/2.

Mets up 5-0 through 4 1/2. If you weren't watching, Cameron ends the Mets
inning by jogging to third on a pop up to left as if there are two out and is
doubled up at second.

I can deal with errors, noffense, bad luck ... but when stuff like that happens
it's hard to watch a team that is out of control. I don't know whatever became
of that kangaroo court thingy, but maybe they need to start removing finger-
nails or something when a player makes a stupid blunder like that. It's just
totally inexcusable at this level, and the base running vapor locks happen
far too often for a team that should be hungry, not fucking lazy.

Mets add 3 runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-0. Pedro shuts down the Pirates, allowing only a 2 out walk to Lawton, in the bottom of the inning.

I second that emotion.

How 'bout that Castro? Scored from second on a double. Way to go!

Who the devil is singing "God Bless America"?

Seaver is talking about how he called Rick White "Wick White" once while White was warming up as a Met, and how everybody gave him a hard time for screwing it up. I remember that game, but he called him "Rick Wheat." Of course, it could be that Seaver's so far lost that he just doesn't get anyone's name right, a la Kiner.

Regardless, White is wearing 00, which I don't think any pitcher has ever done. Someone call Paul Lukas.

Pedro's done after seven. Here's comes the bullpen parade, starting with Bert.

The Mets are in the ninth, with Looper pitching in a NSS.

Their bench is ragging on Castro for something.

I believe they're ragging on him because he's funny-looking.

6-1, your final.

Enjoy the all-star break - we all deserve one.

Well, we're a .500 team again.

Sigh.

We are what we are, I s'pose.

Another tape-delay job:

They gave Cameron a lot of credit for hustling down to second trying (and failing) to stretch a single into a double in the first inning (the pitch before Beltran's HR)-- but what I saw (and have on tape, if anyone thinks I'm making this stuff up) is a lack of hustle between home and first, and then he turned on the jets. Is there a reason not to go full-out on a ball that looks like a single (it was an infield hit off the secondbaseman, careening into the outfield) , and then to run like hell after you decide to stretch it? Is this base-running worthy of praise, or criticism? (Seaver praised him for being an aggressive baserunner.) Cameron would been at second standing up if he'd been busting it out of the box.
