Even after the loss, I can't consider this season a disappointment. Thanks to Omar for making the right choices on guys to bring to New York. Thanks to Willie for leading us past the Braves to a NL East Division Championship. Thanks to the players who gave us a season of domination within the division and the league. Most of all, thanks to the members of the CPF for allowing me to share an amazing season with all of them. It was a fun ride...although we fell a little short. You'll never know how much it means to a Midwesterner to have peeps to share this season (and hell, the last ten seasons) with. Thanks.

Thanks to the Mets, and Jose Reyes especially, for showing my 7-year old daughter the joys of baseball, and of being a Mets fan. In April, she was a little kid who watched off and on. By August, she knew how many stolen bases Reyes had by the time he brushed the dirt off his jersey. And by September we were trying to duplicate the Reyes/Delgado home run celebration. Thanks to this magical season that ended too soon, I have another baseball companion for life. I shed a little tear last night as the final out was recorded, but not for myself. It was because I'd have to deliver the really sad news to my little girl that she won't be seeing her favorite player's smile and joy for the game until April. I never thought any season could top 1985 or 1986 in my heart. But 2006 may turn out to be my favorite Mets season ever.

I mentioned in the IGT that my 9-year-old was 'in hysterics' after the loss. A better word would actually be 'inconsolable'. I kept telling him that he shouldn't be SO upset, it was just a game and that the Mets are a good young team that should be playing in October for years to come. His reaction to the loss actually helped me put it in perspective so this morning I'm not nearly as upset about it as I might otherwise be. I never had his experience. When I was a kid the Mets were always bad, so they never disappointed me because I never had expectations. When they finally did make it to October I was 21 years old and they won the whole thing. I was caught off guard by his reaction but I'm glad that he has embraced the Mets as passionately as I have. Its something that he and will share for the rest of our lives hopefully. One day I will tease him about his crying after that playoff loss to the Cardinals in '06 and we'll both laugh about it. So thank you Mets for giving me something special to share with my boy.

It was a good run. If you allow yourself to be devestated in life every time you don't achieve the ultimate success, you're in for a long road. Ten years from now, what will we remember? -- Opening day tailgate party on gorgeous sunny April day, and the love-fest at Shea as the Mets win the opener!! -- Watching the team sprint out to an early divisional lead and win in every imaginable way, led by Pedro and Glavine. -- Watching the team cobble together a fantastic summer, despite injuries to four-fifths of the starting rotation, along with Kaz Matsui (no great loss there), Duaner Sanchez (ouch!), and Cliff Floyd. -- Seeing the major league debut of Mike Pelfry -- Seeing the beginning of John Maine's career. -- Watching Aaron Heilman develop into a solid set-up man, and feeling generally good about games when the Mets had the lead after 6. -- Watching the division clincher -- first time the evil Braves haven't won the division since before MK was born! -- Watching Jose Reyes and David Wright sign long-term contracts -- Sweeping the Dodgers in the first round, despite the starting pitching issues (and watching the MFYs fall apart against Detroit) -- Sitting on the edge of the couch for 7 games in the NLCS. Disappointed that we didn't win the World Series? Sure. But a great year, and looking forward to even better next year.

Opening Day was actually dank and rainy. Loads of fun, but dank and rainy. It was a good ride this year. They went further than we ever could have expected, especially when we lost two Game 1 NLDS starting pitchers in a week's time. Let's Go Mets!

I saw more Mets baseball this year than any year since 1988, when I last lived in New York. (Thanks MLB Extra Innings!) I picked a good year to start subscribing to that package. I really enjoyed TiVoing the Friday night games and watching them on Saturday mornings with my breakfast. So while we're thanking the players, let's also thank Gary, Keith, and Ron for making the telecasts fun. In so many ways, it was a great year to be a Mets fan. Let's hope this is one to build on. I'd like there to be at least one more World Series played at Shea Stadium before they shut the place down. How great would it be for the last game there to be a World Series clinching victory? Has any ballpark ever gone out in such style?

ditto, ditto, ditto. Great year-lots a fun. Did see, or keep abreast of in real time, more Met ball games than I can ever remember during any other season. It was well worth it- great team showed me a great time. _______________________________________________________ Seawolf-go and change your avacard.(plz) I had like over 100 of those cards, both variations. Bought em, saved em, cherished em. I thought they were money in the bank. Turns out they were just cardboard with Gregg Jeffries picture on em. ;)
