I don't know if I can watch the World Series this year. Anyone else feel that way?

The guy is 12 feet away decked out in Cubs gear and he turns to his wife and asks which team is his favorite. Those ads are so desperate it's not funny.

at least the ads are better than the floating-tommy-head that pops up at the bottom of the screen and tells me that we all live for this. those just wierd me the hell out. can we somehow convince SNY to bid for the playoff package next year? they do so much better a job of putting on a baseball game than fox, it isn't even funny. espn, visually better, too. but they have joe morgan, so...

I'm not gonna watch. But I've only watched one World Series since the 1994 strike, and that was in 2000.

I never quite get the baseball fans' penchant for boycotting the post-season when their teams aren't in it, which is, no matter what you think of the quality of those ads, precisely what they're aimed at -- although one can certainly question the wisdom of running ads during the MLB playoffs to tell those already watching the MLB playoffs that they should be watching the MLB playoffs. You don't have to go changing your life and canceling other plans around the games now, but I never hear football fans act like baseball fans by saying - even bragging to an extent - that they have no interest in their sports' championship. I understand the withdrawal syndrome following a tough knock-out but I always watch the playoffs & WS. Having said all that; I'll be at a family party Saturday night (can you imagine the inconsiderate planning by the parental units choosing to get married 50 years to the day before the start of the 2006 WS?!?) and now that party won't need to be interrupted at 8:00 as half the party suddenly loses interest in their blood relatives in favor of a few dozen guys in funny clothes whom they've never met. Fortunately, most of said family knows all about the baseball obsession of the NY-based part of their clan so they would have understood.

I used to always watch, but the 1994 strike kicked me of the habit. I'm no longer a "baseball" fan. I'm now strictly a Mets fan. The 1994 strike made me take that step back, and I've no desire to return to where I was.

I hear you, Frayed, but this isn't about sour grapes for me. I mean, I've watched the WS pretty consistently for the last several years. No, this is about it being too painful for me to watch another team compete for the championship when we were SO CLOSE to getting there ourselves. Although I've already rebounded enough to make it to work, Mets cap on head, so maybe by tomorrow I'll be able to watch. By the way, I complained the other day about my MFY coworkers, who gave me a hard time when we lost Game 5 (after I'd been so nice to them when their team lost), and for the record, I totally underestimated them. They've all been quite gracious and sympathetic today, and were, apparently, just busting my chops earlier. So I take it all back: the high ground is always the place to be.

I remember in 1988 I had no trouble rooting for the Dodgers in the World Series, even after their defeat of the Mets. I was totally into the watch all the time, root for the NL, do you duty Judy stuff. But I guess I've changed. I want the Tigers to win, but not enough to watch and cheer them on. And if the Cardinals win, I won't be gnashing my teeth.

fuck the st. louis cardinals... and while i'm at it, fuck the arizona cardinals, fuck the actual birds, and fuck the actual clergymen (before they fuck your sons). fuck the tigers, fuck baseball, fuck you and fuck me. Do i sound bitter? baseball season is over. Go J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!!!!

I'll watch. But I certainly won't go out of my way to do so. I'll be rooting for the Cardinals too. I'd like to see the National League put a stop to this "inferior" crap. Has anyone noticed that in the ad where the Indians fans come out of the cabinets, one of them appears to be wearing a Cincinnati Reds cap?

Like CF, I'll watch if I'm around, but I won't go out of my way. I'll also be rooting for the Cardinals, because that's my 13-year-old's team. He was very gracious during the course of the NLCS, but I know that he's happy to have his team in the World Series.

I don't really know who to root for in this series. I traditionally like the Cardinals and traditionally root for the NL team, but I can never bring myself to root for the team that beat mine. I'm a horrible person in that regard. At the same time, I don't really want to pull for the Tigers either. Maybe I can root for the umpires to make good calls or something, I don't know. Two more points to make here: First, if they release a new Lasorda commercial featuring a Mets fan and an A's fan, I'm just going to cry. Second, this marks the official beginning of the NHL and NBA for me. To hell with everything else.

I just bought BF2142 so I doubt I will be watching much of the series. . .that and I think it might just be too painful for me to watch.

Luck Fasorda? I'll be watching. The World Series is one of the great sporting events of the year and I'll follow as much as I can. Looks like it could be a good one too.

I'll casually watch, but the season's more or less over for me. Lasorda's probably an ok guy, but I've always had a fuck him attitude towards him for whatever reason ... prolly deeply rooted from 1988. Problem with the ad, and I think I posted this in an IGT, is that the supposed Ambasador for Baseball comes off looking like a senile old horse ass staring up in that tree and asking what's his team. Tommy needs a new agent.

I'm a National Leaguer through and through, but I feel for these Tigers fans. It's been tough in Michigan for a while, with the auto industry in the dumpster. The team has been terrible since we moved here in 1990. You have no idea what having this team rise from the ashes has done for this area. It's been a baseball town in hibernation, getting excited for the Red Wings and Pistons, but ready to go nuts if the Tigers pull this off.
