KC

For those of you who miss having a spell check here, Firefox 2 (officially
release today) has one built in and it works for posting. Pretty neat.

I'm sure Fifrefox is working on that.

Firefox 2 still hasn't been released for Macs though.

Ooh, I'm downloading the British version. Then the spellcheck will correct words such as "labour," "centre," and "sport."

Willets Point

I've downloaded it, but can't find the spell check.

They measure their gasoline in litres and their temperature in Celsius. If they play baseball there, they'd measure their home run distances in metres. But what about an announced attendance at a sporting event, such as 17,604? I wonder how many people that would be in American numbers.

WP, it's automatic. Compose something in a post a reply window and
spell something wrong and it underlines it in red.

wow. i never have to spell again.

does it work for punctuation and capitalization as well? if so, i might just lose all of my unique charm.

Wait - isn't this still the preview release? The main Firefox page still has 1.5 as the official version.

I've been playing with V2 for a couple of weeks, and it's ok. I just upgraded to IE 7, and I just have to say, wow. IT stole a lot from Firefox - tabed browsing, and a multi-search engine search window just to name two - but it also smooths the fonts, so everything looks like it's being viewed on a mac...

Internet Explorer is the devil.

teh crazy thing works!!

but how will it deal with things like Carlos Beltran? or carlos beltran

oh ok. so if you capitalize the first letter, it no longer spell checks. it also doesnt consider "ok" to be a correctly spelled word, preferring instead for it to be capitalized.

I always agreed with that, but I have to also test my code in IE, because most of the great unwashed still use it...

I'm a big fan of Firefox. My wife converted me a few months back, and now I use it almost exclusively.

It does, it tells you what you need to correct but doesn't make the corrections for you so if you wish to spell things incorrectly you can do so.

My bad....

Rel 2 was supposed to go live today, technically I have the pre-release too,
Iubital. But if you check for updates, there aren't any.

And yes, the new IE does seem to have a lot of Firefox features just with a
prettier look to it.

metsmarathon

yeah, it'll tell me when i misspell something, but it doesn't do a damned thing about it.

at least it recognizes curse words. or at least the popular ones.

it bugs me, being in the army biz, that i always have to tell my spell checkers that when i type fuze i mean fuze, and not fuse, and that there is a difference. oh well. at least it recognizes munitions. word doesn't.

MFS needs a 'FunnyCheck'. Someone make sure and tell him when that's released.

wait...

sport?

Willets Point

British newspapers and newscasters talk about 'sport' in plural where in the US we say 'sports.'

Examples:

UK
US

I just downloaded it on my laptop. I'll put it on my PC if this works out.

I may learn to love the spell checker.

And I spell things different that you lot...like honour,humour....well I do sometimes anyway..

The new Firefox loads faster - that's good.

The only inconvenience I've found is that if I aim lazily to check a tab I sometimes accidentally hit the red X and close it instead. I preferred it when you had to be more affirmative about closing tabs.

I''ve always found that this paperback dictionary here on my desk is effective at checking my spelling. No mess, no fuss.

Also Dictionary.com if you insist on being high tech.
