CPF Parody Classic - 2006
Centerfield Oct 31 2006 01:46 PM |
Is there enough interest to do this again? Last year Yancy hustled us all with his "Gee whiz, I don't know what I'm doing" routine. I doubt he catches anyone napping this time around.

Benjamin Grimm Oct 31 2006 01:47 PM |
Gee whiz, I don't know what I'm doing...

In. Other than the elections, the only interesting thing going on in November.

I'm still smarting from my first-round knockout. I'm in.

Tradition has it that the defending champion launches the show:

I think tradition is that Centerfield starts it.
Benjamin Grimm Oct 31 2006 02:08 PM |
What's involved in "starting it"?
Johnny Dickshot Oct 31 2006 02:11 PM |
Wonder if Jazz Radio DJ is still around

Or Grover.

Especially Grover.

I don't know, isn't this kind of played out. Aren't we doomed to people dragging their feet and gripping up until an anti-climactic finale sometime around Lincoln's birthday?
MFS62 Oct 31 2006 03:44 PM |
Still not sure.
Willets Point Oct 31 2006 03:56 PM |
Well your seniority as a Mets fan gives you an advantage of probably knowing interesting facts about obscure Mets of the past that can be set to music.

MFS62 Oct 31 2006 04:20 PM |

Thanks. I appreciated that. The problem with that seniority is that it makes me consider songs that may be of a wrong generation or genre for many of the voters. I'm still considerin'. Later Later

I am definitely in. Considering I am unemployeed, I can give it my full focus. Although, maybe I should give a little focus to my job search . . .

Rockin' Doc Nov 01 2006 11:21 AM |
I have an awful lot going on in the remainder of the year, so I think it is best that I not participate this year. Hopefully, I'll be able to once again take part in 2007.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 01 2006 11:26 AM |
I'm leaning towards sitting on my laurels.

Don't buy it, Edgy. . . it is just another cheap-o "Gee whiz, I don't know what I'm doing" tactic to get us to let our guard down.

I don't know what y'all think, but to me "Pedro Is the Guy Dwarves Climb On" is the cleverest song title ever.
Valadius Nov 02 2006 09:29 AM |
I agree with MFS. That was the song of the tournament.

I'm gonna sit this one out too. With my vacation coming up, I'll probably end up being unavailable for the first round.
SwitchHitter Nov 07 2006 03:12 PM |
I know I said I was in but I need to retract that. My husband got off the schneid and we're looking at houses. I anticipate a purchase and a move within the next month.
ScarletKnight41 Nov 07 2006 03:14 PM |
Very cool Annie - best of luck house hunting!
sharpie Nov 08 2006 12:21 PM |
The roster as I see it. It's currently at 16 which is good bracketwise.
Edgy DC Nov 08 2006 12:51 PM |
Going forward without a defending champion doesn't seem right.
Johnny Dickshot Nov 08 2006 12:52 PM |
We could strip him of his title and declare Sharpie the defender
Benjamin Grimm Nov 08 2006 12:53 PM |
If you want to delay starting until the second week of December I may reconsider.
Edgy DC Nov 08 2006 12:53 PM |
I think the technical defender would be the winner from the 2004-2005 offseason.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 08 2006 12:54 PM |
You mean like they did with Vanessa Williams? Neat!
soupcan Nov 08 2006 01:12 PM |
But you'd have to provide us with naked pictures of yourself with another woman in lesbianic poses.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 08 2006 01:18 PM |
I know! That's why I'm so intrigued by the idea.
sharpie Nov 08 2006 01:22 PM |
Waiting til second week of December would be tough only because it lasts a while and no one would want to do it over Christmas. Waiting til January would be an option I suppose.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 08 2006 01:24 PM |
I agree. I think the show can go on without me.
Willets Point Nov 08 2006 02:15 PM |
Let's wait until January. I'm totally interested in doing this right now.
sharpie Nov 08 2006 02:26 PM |
There's a "not" missing from Willets' post. Just not sure which sentence it is in.
Willets Point Nov 08 2006 02:40 PM |
Fixed it.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 08 2006 02:42 PM |
I read it the second way. I guess I subconsciously assumed that the second sentence would reinforce the first, so I gave more weight to the first sentence.

Rockin' Doc Nov 09 2006 06:33 PM |
No problem sharpie. Just using some personal insecurities to poke fun at a rather forgetable parody that you trounced last winter.

Are we doing this now-ish or in January?
Nymr83 Nov 14 2006 12:23 PM |
i think if the defending champ would do it in january but not now it should be january, it would suck if he couldnt defend his title.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 14 2006 12:41 PM |
I'm not saying that you guys have to wait for me. My nose won't be at all out of joint if you kicked it off next week.
sharpie Nov 14 2006 12:47 PM |
With KC, Yancy, Willets and Nymr all advocating for January, I will throw my runner-up vote that way as well.
Edgy DC Nov 14 2006 12:52 PM |
Done, we'll kick her off on 1/2. I'll put together a bracket, update the ranking list, and hand out assignments. We usually open with Cooby sending me a scrambling number between 1 and 500.
Willets Point Nov 14 2006 03:26 PM |
Maybe we can get our player names now and spend the next six weeks writing brilliant parodies.

holychicken Nov 14 2006 04:04 PM |

Watch it Soupy. Or you're next on the "Try to annoy posters with promises of sending them products when my alamater loses to their alamater" list Speaking of which, does Fairfield ever play your fine institution? =;)
cooby Nov 18 2006 05:41 PM |
Alamater? Is that something you would find on a dashboard?
Iubitul Nov 18 2006 05:50 PM |

It's Tow-Mater's brother...
SteveJRogers Nov 18 2006 06:15 PM |
Clearly it wasn't my spelling that got me through Fairfield University...
Elster88 Nov 18 2006 06:46 PM |
What makes you annoying is not that you're talking about a UConn/Fairfield matchup. What makes you a retard is that you pretend you have some kind of a bet or feud with someone when you don't. Well that and every post you've ever made.
soupcan Nov 18 2006 09:58 PM |
Well, Fairfield has been known to show up on the same court as my boys but to say they actually 'play' them would be insinuating that Fairfield is even the least bit competetive in those instances. So no, they don't. And you should be happy about that, you'd go broke paying off your gambling debts if you took Fairfield against my school.
ScarletKnight41 Nov 19 2006 06:24 AM |
I'm going to get back on the fence. If this is going on in January, I won't be in the middle of the end-of-semester madness. Put me on the roster, but if there are space concerns I'll be happy to bow out.

Next time there should be a rule that if people pick the same number, the later picker just gets assigned the next number rather than chasing people down for stray numbers. Also, Valadius hasn't posted since November. Hope he's okay.

I recommend using "Hotel California."
seawolf17 Jan 04 2007 10:57 AM |
Yes! I can finally use the Eric Gunderson song I wrote last year!
Benjamin Grimm Jan 04 2007 11:24 AM |
"Hello love!"

Don's passing is noted in our archives.

As a casual observer, I have a question: shouldn't the folks who have "earned" a higher seed get some kind of benefit in terms of the players they get to choose from?
Nymr83 Jan 04 2007 01:07 PM |
randomness is fairer Hahn, imo.
Edgy DC Jan 04 2007 01:11 PM |
The advantage of topseediness is getting lesser-successful or lesser-experienced opponent, and avoiding the play-in round. Aside from that, we go for a level playing field.
sharpie Jan 04 2007 01:16 PM |
Also, better players doesn't mean better subjects. Tim Burke and his 30 children sounds like a good angle.
Nymr83 Jan 04 2007 01:20 PM |
yeah. i'm not to keen on my list, but i can write about one guy and thats all it takes because if you win you inherit the loser's list.
Benjamin Grimm Jan 04 2007 01:22 PM |
It doesn't really matter that much. You just need to get inspiration for one of your assigned players. And if you win, you get another batch of players to choose from. And if you keep winning, your choices get easier and easier.
soupcan Jan 04 2007 02:28 PM |
Holy crap! I got the motherlode...
sharpie Jan 04 2007 02:31 PM |
You should coordinate with Transmonk so that one of your songs isn't up for days getting stale.
ScarletKnight41 Jan 04 2007 02:43 PM |
Is there a list of the songs that were used in last year's contest?
Edgy DC Jan 04 2007 02:47 PM |
Top of page three in this thread.
ScarletKnight41 Jan 04 2007 03:03 PM |
Thanks

Wow! Nice choices there. I was hoping for one other player, and it seems nobody has him yet. I'd be curious if someone gets him. Later
Nymr83 Jan 04 2007 05:32 PM |
nobody gets any of the guys not already assigned, right?
Edgy DC Jan 04 2007 05:34 PM |
This is our field. The only way other players get assigned is if there's a tie, which is broken by a both competitors writing about a new random player.
Diamond Dad Jan 04 2007 06:30 PM To all, Good luck |
Good luck to everyone. Some people more than others. Sorry I've been missing in action lately. Lots going on elsewhere. I'll dive into the parody song competition again next year if there is space.
MFS62 Jan 05 2007 07:16 AM |
When will the brackets be posted? The contest start?
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 07:18 AM |
As far as I'm concerned, it's started.
sharpie Jan 05 2007 07:31 AM |
Not that I'm near ready, but those matches who aren't involved in the play-in round (for example, I think I oppose Steve J. Rogers), can they start whenever both are ready?
Benjamin Grimm Jan 05 2007 07:48 AM |
I think last year we waited for the playins to be completed before moving on.
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 07:51 AM |
Yes, wait for one round to end before starting the next.
soupcan Jan 05 2007 10:14 AM |
I plan on posting my first entry sometime this weekend.
TransMonk Jan 05 2007 10:47 AM |
I can have mine ready this weekend as well...I'll most likely post it Sunday afternoon.
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 10:57 AM |
OK, Midnight Monday your contest will be done.
seawolf17 Jan 05 2007 10:58 AM |
Wait a minute! I thought TransMonk was a professional musician. I think he has an edge. Uh-oh.
cooby Jan 05 2007 11:00 AM |
That doesn't give people who work much time to vote
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 11:02 AM |
Vote Sunday evening or Monday evening, Hammer.
cooby Jan 05 2007 11:03 AM |
Okey dokey.

Yes, but I'm a poet and currently I have a heavy heart. Watch out.
Gwreck Jan 05 2007 11:12 AM |
The play-in battle between nymr83 and myself will be posted Monday. How long is the voting period? 2 days? 3?[/list]
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 11:15 AM |
Twenty-four weekday hours generally does it, I believe.
cooby Jan 05 2007 11:34 AM |
Okay, but please don't forget to not close each one until Midnight...I can't take the risk of voting from work. The only reason I am talking to you now is that I am home sick.
Edgy DC Jan 05 2007 12:05 PM |
Get better.
MFS62 Jan 05 2007 06:01 PM |
No , I didn't know. I've haven't been on the board as frequently recently. My thoughts are with you and yours in this time of mourning. Later

I'm ready if you are soupcan...I'll post mine mid-Sunday.
cooby Jan 06 2007 07:54 PM |
I vote for that
MFS62 Jan 08 2007 05:18 AM |
Can you please post a bracket?
Edgy DC Jan 08 2007 06:13 AM |
The bracket will be up this evening.
MFS62 Jan 08 2007 06:45 AM |
Thank you.
ScarletKnight41 Jan 08 2007 04:02 PM |
Lundy - I assume that our round can start as early as tomorrow. I'm ready when you are, so you post when you're ready and I'll reply.

What time this evening? I'm sitting on a tune, but I'm getting d-r-o-w-s-y.
sharpie Jan 08 2007 09:04 PM |
Rogers, I'm ready when you are.
Benjamin Grimm Jan 09 2007 01:23 PM |
TransMonk, you probably want to catch your breath after your first round win, but I am ready with my song. Let me know when you want to continue and we can arrange when to meet on the playground.

Opps I thought it was Holy Chicken, eeep... Wed morning I'll have something up
TransMonk Jan 09 2007 03:39 PM |
Yancy, I have already concocted an idea for my next mediocre Metly melody...but still need time to actually work on it. I'll get it ironed out by Wednesday night and be ready to post by (early) Thursday morning if that works for you.
sharpie Jan 09 2007 03:44 PM |
Cool. You put up the poll and I'll follow.
ScarletKnight41 Jan 09 2007 03:48 PM |
TM is obviously taking a page from Yancy's Book of Oh Shucksing Your Way To The Top!
sharpie Jan 09 2007 03:57 PM |
Yeah, my money is on TransMonk to take the whole thing.
MFS62 Jan 09 2007 04:31 PM |
Ira's going to be starting our contest around 8 PM tonight.

I've done some homework for my first go at this thing. :) Unfortunately, now I have to face the master.
Benjamin Grimm Jan 09 2007 05:46 PM |
When do you think you'll be ready to post? Is Thursday morning okay? If not, we can hold off until next week.
ScarletKnight41 Jan 23 2007 05:10 PM |
In order to know my 2nd round enemy, I went back to review sharpie's Randolphian Rhapsody.
OlerudOwned Jan 24 2007 04:49 PM |
Well, I've got my song done, so just tell me where to stick it and it's stuck.
Kong76 Jan 24 2007 05:21 PM |
I'll be ready after six pm tomorrow. I guess first one on the forum after six
ScarletKnight41 Feb 05 2007 03:09 PM |
You guys better start the semi-finals soon if you want to find any shrimp in the Looser's Lounge.
