I love the sweet little old lady that hugs him first; the way she touches his face is dear.

Elster, I've always wondered what you look like, now we know

HAHA, not quite. If you read the text on the webpage the link connects to, and the email that I got it in, you'll see it was on Oprah.

From correspondents in Shanghai
November 06, 2006 03:58pm

A CHINESE group of 'huggers' inspired by an Australian man who stands in the street offering free embraces to strangers, have been rounded up by police in Shanghai.

Police detained 11 huggers and confiscated their signs advertising free hugs only 20 minutes into their initial hug therapy campaign on Nanjing Road on Saturday, the China Daily said.

The group was released after about an hour in police custody, with authorities saying their actions were illegal because they did not have a permit.

"The organisers lacked the necessary certificate to hold an event in a public place,'' the paper quoted an unidentified Shanghai police official as saying.

Organisers began the campaign after seeing an internet video of a man in Australia offering free hugs on a street that brought "warmth to people's hearts'' through free hugging, the paper said.

"The film moved me,'' the paper quoted the organiser of the Shanghai campaign, a 24-year-old man named Baigu, as saying.

"We see strange faces everyday and mostly we see aversion or animosity in their eyes.

"Why can't we melt the coldness in people's hearts with our hugs?''

Baigu had intended to hold other hugging sessions over the next fortnight but these plans had now been put on hold.
