Good peice in the Onion this week about Mellencamp being inspired to write another song by a Honda.

I really dislike the new Holiday Inn commercials.

This is especially disappointing to me because I loved two of their other campaigns: the "I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night"; and the campaign with the 30something who still lives at home with his parents.

this is without a doubt the worst commercial ever. partially because it is terrible, and also because the frequency it is played is so obscene.

i actually like the alarm clock catastrophe song. i hum it to myself during happy times.

]John Mellencamp To Write Song About Japan

November 6, 2006 | Issue 42•45

INDIANAPOLIS—The high quality and enduring value of the new 2007 Honda Accord has inspired roots-rock veteran John Mellencamp to write a stirring hymn about the working-class nation of Japan.

"Oh, you noble land of the rising sun/Where discipline and duty are still number one," Mellencamp sings in the video for "Buddha On The Highway," in which he is seen playing his guitar on the hood of a bright orange Accord parked in a terraced rice paddy.

"There's a place in Nihon for me and you/I was born in Hokkaido and I'll die there, too."

Mellencamp has reportedly begun work on a follow-up song telling the story of Hideo and Mariko, two Okinawan kids doing the best they can, who lose their jobs when Honda closes down the local plant and moves operations to Marysville, OH.

That John Cougar Mellondrama campaign has reached new heights of being
annoying. I watched too much sports on tv this weekend and god damn it that
freakin' song was in my head when going to sleep last night.

Citibank has a couple of losers right now

One is the gigantic headed Shirley Temple broad that puts 50 cents in her savings account and "alerts the media". Ye gods, she's ugly.

The other is the German guy with the not funny sidekick.

I don't like the Enterprise rental car ad I've seen a lot of lately.

The guy is going to his H.S. reunion and wants to make an impression so he rents a Cadillac from Enterprise. So when he gets to the reunion he's treated like a big shot and has beautiful women on his arm.

But wait...these people can't see any of the three Enterprise stickers that are all over the car?

but... its the guy from the capital one ads that gets dumped on repeatedly by david spade. how can you not like the ad? and his name is moose! it's sheer brilliance!

i can't explain it, but for some reason, i like that actor - nate torrence. cracks me up every time.

hey, anyone have any idea why i keep on seeing that clearasil ad from the mid 90's back on tv - the one with the poorly drawn cartoon face with zits all over it? i mean, really. are ads from the 90's supposed to appeal to today's kids, or is that one meant for the 30 year olds out there who still get rampant breakouts?

The Lexus with the ribbon on it.

The tagline should be: Lexus: When Your Wife's a Complete Cunt.

Sorry about that.

I really don't like that ad in which you see an aerial shot of a deli operating like a machine until one customer brings everything to a crashing halt by wanting to use cash instead of the sponsor's debit card.

I appreciate that guy's individualism.

I'm going to hunt down and beat up the guy that sings a song of
satisfaction to the world about waterfalls and caramel first thing in
the morning when I'm trying to get sports news. How does he look
himself in the mirror after that commercial?

In the commercial where Dad gets hosed -- a particularly obnoxious one -- what does the daughter say to him just before he announces that he's gotten hosed? I don't know why this has been bothering me, but it has,

Daughter, "After shave"

Dad, "No, Dad got hosed."

Personally, I think Hummers are nothing but a big waste of money.

But their latest ads, showing a Hummer driving through an inch of snow, and hinting that no other car can do that, just make me laugh.

Not to mention that it promotes this fiction that paying in cash slows down a transaction.
Quite the opposite in my experience.

In fact, I think me being stuck behind someone in the express line in a supermarket paying for six items with a charge card is the reason the five-day waiting period for guns exists.

Does it bother anybody else how easy it is to just swipe your card at the gas pump or wherever and you don't even need a PIN anymore? Even your credit card...
Do those cards on the commercial really work like that, you just swipe them and you're on your way?
I don't think I like that trend.

Footnote: Today when I got to work, there was more snow on the parking lot than there is on that Hummer ad. And not a Hummer in sight. Makes you wonder how we all got to work.

="cooby"]Does it bother anybody else how easy it is to just swipe your card at the gas pump or wherever and you don't even need a PIN anymore? Even your credit card...
No. It's no different from swiping it at the cash register, and, if you note, many places don't even require you sign for purchases under $20. Since it's a credit card, you can get any fraudulent charges reversed quite easily.

Despite the logic issues with the Visa Check Card lunch commercial, anything that features Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse" is just fine in my book. Here's the entire piece. It will sound very familiar. (Listen to the end.)

The one I really hated was a recent McDonald's commercial. A bunch of guys were hanging together and one gets up and says, "I think I'll go see a romantic comedy with my girlfriend." All the others look askance, as though he has lost his mind from hunger.

First of all, why shouldn't he like a romantic comedy? They can be pretty good movies. But, from a pure Male Chauvinist Pig standpoint, going to the romantic comedy is going to make his girlfriend feel more romantic, which means she is more likely going to want to have sex. I don't think McDonald's wants to imply the guys would rather have sex with each other.
