Do the Mets choose what players to expose?

Dickshot has a point. Why should the Mets be forced to carry Abreu on the 40 to protect him from a draft designed to free-up five-year minor leaguers?

I have NO idea.

Players who have been pros for at least 4 or 5 years* (depending on the age when they first signed) but are not yet on the team's 40-man roster are "exposed" to being selected via the Rule 5 process. So it's a combination of "choice" and circumstances. Any player plucked off another team's roster must be kept on the major league roster the entire year or offered back to his original team. * just changed from 3 or 4 years in the new labor agreement

If we don't sign Lugo, maybe we could take a chance on a few young 2bmen like Ryan Raeburn (Tigers) and Tim Moss (Philly). Bring them in and see if they can beat out Easley, Gotay or whomever. Its not like we've got anything in our system.
