Harold Crick is an IRS agent with a simple orderly life, suddenly thrown to disarray when he wakes up one morning and begins hearing a voice narrating his life. He slowly comes to realize that he is the main character in a book, and seeks to figure out the ending in store for him order to regain control over a life suddenly taken away from him.

Am I --- boring as I am --- the only one to see this thingie so far? My word.

I hate to write an extensive review when nobody else has seen a film, so damn it somebody see it.

No less than three Academy Award-winners in supporting roles, yo.

Here's a minor spoiler. Though the Joe Jackson song "Stranger than Fiction" does not get wheeled out for the film, the forgotten punk classic "Whole Wide World" by forgotten punk Wreckless Eric*, figures prominently in the plot, and it's totally going to be revived because of this movie. You'll be singing the song to yourself by Christmas and hating it to your core by Valentine's Day.

*Eric was one of the original artists on Stiff Records, along with Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, and Nick Lowe, but flamed out young, according to legend, from raging alcohol abuse supposedly encouraged in his self-destruction by the label.

I saw it last night and liked it plenty. I thought Ferrell was good in a role where he got to be awkward and funny, but show heart and be a little serious, too. And though I'd pay $9.50 just to watch Maggie Gyllenhaal wash her sheets and towels, she was both cute and sexy, and played the perfect polar opposite for the straight-laced IRS guy. Dustin Hoffman was awesome. Emma Thompson, too. I like the Queen well enough and thought she was good, but started wondering whether her character was even necessary (I ended up thinking it was, but only to better explain how bad off Thompson's character was).

Loved all the Spoon music, but they kind of turned it into score by leaving the lyrics out, but it made great score anyway, I guess. I confess I stayed for the credits to see who was behind "Whole Wide World". Bad Religion had a "Stranger Than Fiction" that didn't make the cut either, but that ain't no surprise there, juice.

I want to check this movie out, which is a rare for me when it comes to Will Ferrell projects.

He just looks to be more sedate in this. I always think that he's at his worst when he overdoes it (frequently). Too over the top.

Not really, really good or even really good. Just good. Not on a par with Groundhog Day for high-concept films.

One of two movies I saw on the flight back from Vienna. Hard to fathom that the Will Farrell and the Maggie Gylenhall character would get together. Also, what the hell was Queen Latifah doing other than being someone for Emma Thompson to talk to? Some funny bits and Emma was very good.

Fantastic. I thought it was great.

When I heard about it, I thought it would be awful unless they did it just right. Fantastic writing, great acting...and Maggie Gyllenhall catapults herself to top 5 status.

I could have done without the tattoos.

That being said - I was pleasantly surprised with this movie.

if you like Maggie, check out "SECRETARY"... hot spanking action, for those so inclined.

I don't remember any tattoos in Secretary either.

I'm not sure if I like Maggie or just the character. I made that mistake once when I thought I liked Natalie Portman but actually just had a crush on Marty from Beautiful Girls.

My favorite exchange of the movie:

Harold Crick: Miss Pascal, what you're describing is anarchy. Are you an anarchist?
Ana Pascal: You mean, am I a member of...
Harold Crick: An anarchist group, yes.
Ana Pascal: Anarchists have a group?
Harold Crick: I believe so, sure.
Ana Pascal: They assemble?
Harold Crick: I don't know.
Ana Pascal: Wouldn't that completely defeat the purpose?
