Lee, all is forgiven. Welcome back.

Wonder what WWSB thinks when Mazz shoves a mic in his face.

Considering Willie got cold-shouldered by the MFY brass while Mazz was Torre's boy. Plus aren't Tilden and Lincoln, like, blood rivals?

Reference to Maz arguing (correctly though) in an interference call that went the MFY way in a Yankee-Met game.

I full well plan on a grand range of razz on Mazz until he shows me otherwise.
I thought he was annoying as a pretty boy on the Mets when I was in high
school while the Yanks were rattlin' off titles. Then he goes and not just be-
comes one, but an annoying one at that later in life. Booo, Yanks don't want
me so I'll go over there again is the way I see it.

where's the love?

Mazz was the only good thing in a dark time. He was a local boy made good, our lone all-star rep (i remember that opposite field homer he hit to win the A-S game). I forgave him his stylin' and matinee looks, cuz he seemed basically well meaning. A great centerfielder (albeit a weak arm), who hit .300 with some pop and speed. And when we traded him, we got 2 important pitchers (terrell and darling). And then we got him back in time to participate in the 86 championship team.

He took a job with the MFY? Yeah, so what? Its not like the Mets were dying to keep him. I don't blame a guy for trying to make a living.

He's back now.

I'm happy about it.

WFAN's Kevin Burkhardt will replace Chris Cotter for 2007.

from Hotfoot.metsblog.com:

WFAN's Kevin Burkhardt to Replace Chris Cotter
by James on Tue 09 Jan 2007 08:26 PM EST

Earlier today on the Mike & the Mad Dog Show, WFAN reported that Chris Cotter who was the Mets pre-game and post-game reporter for the Mets during the 2006 season, has been replaced by Kevin Burkhardt who frequently does the 20/20 updates on WFAN. There is no word on whether or not Cotter will re-sign with SNY with a different role for 2007 or if he was fired.

]

Willie Randolph will depart the Mets' minicamp today and fly to Kansas City to be honored as the National League Manager of the Year by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Randolph was frustrated by being beaten out for the National League Manager of the Year honors by Joe Girardi, but was particularly pleased to receive this honor, the Charles Isham "C.I." Taylor Award.

"This is a real honor," Randolph said. "I'm a historian of the game.

"I have pictures of these guys -- Satchel Paige, Buck O'Neil, Josh Gibson -- on the walls of my office.

"I wanted to take the time to go out there and thank them for thinking of me."

Bulls running from MSG?

Are the Red Bulls about to bolt MSG Network?

Spies say Red Bulls brass has already engaged in "serious conversations" with SportsNet New York honchos to explore the possibility of jumping to the TV home of the Mets.

If the Red Bulls do exit MSG, it would put a further hole in the network's summer programming, unless, of course, MSG is considering using replays of this scintillating Knicks season to revive its summer schedule.

Anyway, why would the Red Bulls want to leave MSG?

There probably are a few reasons. One likely is promotion. On SNY, the Red Bulls could count on receiving major hype during Mets telecasts. This would provide the Red Bulls with more traction than having upcoming games and telecasts promoted on reruns of MSG's "50 Greatest Moments" series.

Then there's SNY's comprehensive sports news operation, which the Red Bulls would also benefit from.

If the Bulls split, they would not be the first franchise to cross over to SNY. Of course, the Mets did it when SNY was created. The latest MSG defection came when Lou DiBella took his "Broadway Boxing" series to SNY.

makes perfect sence for Red Bull....MSG is shot.

Anyone see the "UltimetMoments" thing SNY has been running? Chris Cotter hosted, and they did an hour-long season in review highlight show...which completely omitted the playoffs.

Then, they did a half-hour "UltimetMoments - Long Balls" of homerun highlights. Of course, in their comprehensive review of homers, they neglected to acknolwedge Matsui's three-seasons-in-a-row of leading off his season with a homer. I know he's gone and all, but it woulda been approrpriate to show it. Besides, it was one of the two inside-the-parkers we had this year. (Personally, I was hoping they would show the two triples that Jose Valentin got thrown out at home trying to stretch into homers...but no dice).

Edgy DC

June 20, 2006: Cincinatti at New York:

METS 8TH: COFFEY REPLACED MERCKER (PITCHING); Valentin tripled
to center [Valentin out at home (center to catcher)]; Nady
homered; Milledge struck out (catcher to first); CHAVEZ BATTED
FOR HEILMAN; Chavez grounded out (shortstop to first); 1 R, 2 H,
0 E, 0 LOB. Reds 2, Mets 9.

I thought there was a second one, but Retrosheet doesn't support that.

I have this recollection of Manny Acta twice waving guys around only to get thrown out on would-be inside-the-park HRs. Maybe it was someone else?

Amen. I noticed that Orwellian oversight and I noticed something else. The only game in the history of the New York Mets in which the New York Mets hit two grand slams in one inning took place last season and it went completely unmentioned in a show devoted to home runs hit by the New York Mets last season -- even though that show included a segment on grand slams hit by the New York Mets.

The equally rare eleven-run inning, which featured those two mid-July Wrigley Field slams by Floyd and Beltran (plus a two-run shot by Wright), got not a wisp of acknowledgement. For that matter, nothing that took place a couple of weeks later on a Saturday in Atlanta, when the Mets whomped the Braves 11-3 on two Beltran homers, was spoken of.

Gosh, I wonder why.

Oh yeah. Those games were, respecitvely, on ESPN and Fox. SNY is apparently only interested in promoting games it produced and aired (either on its home channel or on WPIX). The same held true for its previous UltiMet special, the season-in-review. You can bet your bottom dollar (if your cable company hasn't taken it) that if the Mets scored 11 runs in one inning on an SNY game, it would have received its very own segment in any UltiMet special and probably would be reaired a few dozen times in its entirety.

Is it merely self promotion? Is it rights fees? Is it shortsightedness? Would footage of a couple of swings of the bat with Howie Rose and Tom McCarthy dubbed in instead of Gary, Keith or Ron make us think "oh, SNY isn't a very important factor in my Mets viewing"?

I hate stuff like that.

Hernandez wins postseason batting title
Mets infield prospect hit .402 in 23 playoff games for Tigres
By Eric Justic / Special to MLB.com

Anderson Hernandez may not have won a championship in the Dominican Winter League, but he did take home one title. The second baseman snagged the postseason batting crown after hitting .402 with one home run, 12 RBIs and 22 runs scored in 23 games with Tigres del Licey.
In 25 regular-season games, the 24-year-old infielder batted .287 with nine RBIs.

Several other Mets prospects also had productive seasons in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Mexico, Arizona and Hawaii. Here's a recap of their fall and winter seasons:

Dominican Winter League

RHP Jorge Sosa -- Sosa, who signed with the Mets in mid-January, went 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA in nine postseason appearances with the Tigres del Licey. He was 1-0 with two scoreless frames in the regular season.

LHP Jason Vargas -- Vargas gave up two runs on six hits over eight innings in six regular-season appearances with Leones del Escogido.

RHP Jorge Vasquez -- Vasquez went 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA in eight regular-season games with Gigantes del Cibao. He made three playoff appearances and allowed two runs on three hits over two innings.

OF Carlos Gomez -- Gomez went 4-for-20 with five runs scored for the Leones del Escogido, who did not make the playoffs.

OF Victor Mendez -- Mendez hit .409 with five homers and 13 RBIs in 13 regular-season contests for the Gigantes del Cibao but batted just .211 and knocked in six runs in 18 postseason games. LHP Ricardo Morales -- Morales yielded two hits in 1 1/3 scoreless frames during the regular season for the Estrellas de Oriente. RHP Marcelo Perez -- Perez gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings in two regular-season outings for the Estrellas de Oriente.

Venezuelan Winter League

OF Endy Chavez -- Chavez wrapped up a stellar postseason with the Navegantes del Magallanes. He batted .329 with one homer, seven RBIs and 14 runs scored in 20 games, but the Magallanes were defeated in the championship eries by the Tigres de Aragua.

LHP Edgar Alfonzo (oh, my son!) -- The southpaw pitched for the first time in nearly three weeks when he retired one batter on Dec. 28 to close the regular season. He went 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 17 games and didn't pitch in the playoffs for the Navegantes del Magallanes.

SS Jose Coronado -- Coronado went 4-for-17 with four runs scored and an RBI in seven regular-season games after joining the Navegantes del Magallanes on Dec. 19. He had one hit in two postseason at-bats.

RHP Lino Urdaneta -- Urdaneta gave up one run in each of his final two regular-season outings. He ended up 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in 18 games. It got worse in the playoffs as the right-hander surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and a walk over 3 1/3 frames in four games for the Cardenales de Lara.

RHP Yusaki Iriki -- Iriki went 0-3 with a 10.05 ERA for the Pastora de los Llanos and did not pitch after Nov. 5.

LHP Ryan Cullen -- The 26-year-old southpaw did not pitch after Nov. 4 and went 0-1 with a 10.12 ERA in five games.

RHP Rafael Cova -- Cova didn't pitch in the postseason for the Navegantes del Magallanes after retiring just two batters and posting a 13.50 ERA in the regular season.

Mexican Pacific League

LHP Raul Valdes -- The 29-year-old southpaw, who signed with the Mets in December, went 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA in four playoff starts for the Tomateros de Culiacan. He was 3-1 with a 5.52 ERA in six regular-season starts.

1B Jacob Cruz -- Cruz last played on Dec. 21 and finished the regular season with a .258 batting average, two home runs and nine RBIs in 28 games. He didn't play in the postseason for Tomateros de Culiacan.

Hey Kase, that the original An Amazin' Era with the Thirdbasemen song in and stops properly after the 1985 season or is that the one that was updated around 1988 that had info on both the 1986 and 1987 season? I've come to the conclusion that - aside from the handful of big conf/big team games that get onto the networks and then the tourney stuff - college basketball has become the sports channel equivelent of infomercials; they're cheap as hell to buy and so the stations can just run 'em out there as time fillers.

SNY actually has an old game on now.
I think part of the problem is that they don't own these old game films except for the few they're buying up one or two at a time which is why they seem to just recycle the same half-dozen games when they do show them.
It's just like when someone pointed out that only SNY-property games were being used for the end-of-year high-light shows; this is still a budget-conscious start-up operation.

I have yet to watch any of the classic postseason games, so quick question, do they have the original TV broadcasts as the audio? Over at YES they actually use the WABC (or WCBS depending on the series) broadcast rather than whomever ESPN or FOX was using that night. They also do this to various regular season games that aired on national feeds

Actually thats a neat idea, most local viewers can't stand the national guys (especially Buck 'n McCarver) and would probably enjoy hearing a broadcast they never heard because they were watching the game rather than listening.

Plus you are pretty much guaranteed an audience, even for women's games you'll get fans, alumni and students to tune in (assuming of course that this is a local NYC area confrerence game and not say a Pacific Coast Conference game!) I mean you aren't going to get the same ratings that even a Mets-Brewers game will get on a Wednesday night in June, but it will bring more eyeballs to the sets than brokering time for info-mercials or airing niche sport games.

Frayed Knot
Feb 17 2007 04:26 PM

The few pieces of "classic" games I've seen have used the original announcers; McCarver & Keith Jackson, for instance, on the '86 NLCS games.

As far as the "guaranteed audience" for those college hoop games, the type of games I'm talking about that these sports channels pick up as time-fillers essentially draw test-pattern ratings. But they're probably close to free for the station (oft times these things are a barter arrangement concerning ad time) so it can't hurt to put them on.
It's similar to the way Imus talks about the late-night and overnight shows on FAN when he says that they're only on because it's cheaper than shutting down the transmitter only to have to fire it up again the next morning.

After watching John Sterling call a YES-produced Ivy League Hoops game tonight featuring UPenn and Cornell, I'm wondering why SNY couldn't do the same. Maybe get a Hofstra or Columbia game in there. Gary Cohen has done many College hoops games on the radio.

Also, the Mets used Jon Miller and Joe Morgan's call from the '99 Play in game. I'd love for them to eventually add the playoff games from '99 and '00 to the classics rotation.

I'm sure they could, but for the time being, they seem to have the more lucrative Big 10 basketball games (often via ESPN plus) airing. No offense to the local schools but they're not going to attract the same audience, I think.

In one, Hernandez raves about his on-air performance, prompting the other two to slap him on the back of his head, which dislodges his mustache to the floor whence it crawls away.

I'm watching this season preview and can't believe how old Lee Mazzilli looks.

I don't mean he looks old... he looks... he's always been like a young guy to me. Maybe its the way he's wearing his hair, all gelly and dark.

I didn't think there was a difference in HD quality from one HD channel to the next but wow was there ever. ESPN's was so far superior to SNY's. Mostly apparent from the centerfield camera shot. I tried watching the game on ESPN but the graphics all over the screen combined with Sutcliffe and whoever the hell those other two rednecks in the booth were, made it border on impossible. I watched most of it on SNY even with the lesser quality resolution.

Anyone else ever experience different levels of HD? Is that a usual thing?

From Phil Mushnick's column in today's NY Post:

"One of the comical pleasures Cablevision has consistently provided its customers the last 25 years is its baloney answers to good questions. For example, if Cablevision fails to deliver promised programming you can bet a call to a Cablevision customer service rep (CSR) will produce a ridiculous explanation, one that, naturally, blames everything and everyone except Cablevision.

Tuesday's Giants-Mets on SNY did not appear in HD due to a technical delivery failure from Shea. Fair enough, it was fixed the next day. But a Cablevision CSR, Tuesday, explained Cablevision was "contractually disallowed" to present the game in HD, which was both a ridiculous and typically ridiculous answer."

METS FANS COMPETE FOR 15 SECONDS OF FAME

IN MAKE YOUR OWN METS TV COMMERCIAL CONTEST

Fans to Submit Self-Produced Television Spots to Air on SportsNet New York (SNY)

Entry Deadline June 30

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 3, 2007 - The New York Mets in conjunction with SportsNet New York (SNY) today announced the launch of the "Your 15 Seconds of Mets Fame Commercial Contest."

The competition is open to all Mets fans to produce their own version of a 15-second Mets television spot consistent with the team's slogan, "The 2007 Mets. Your Season Has Come." The winning spot(s), which will be judged by the Mets, will debut Thursday, July 12 on SNY when the Mets host the Cincinnati Reds. The winner(s) also will receive tickets to a 2007 Mets home game, when they will be recognized during a pregame ceremony on the field, and will have their ad shown on DiamondVision during the game.

To enter, contestants must submit a 15-second spot on DVD, DV or MiniDV format that includes the 2007 Mets campaign ("Your Season Has Come") along with a ticket sales message. Complete contest rules, regulations and guidelines, including eligibility and entry requirements and restrictions, and the official entry form will be published shortly on mets.com. A signed and completed entry form that will be posted on Mets.com must accompany the submission of each spot. Further details are available on Mets.com. Entry deadline is June 30.

The 2007 Mets campaign was developed in conjunction with Ogilvy and Mather. The "15 Seconds of Mets Fame" contest follows the inaugural Mets Anthem Search competition in March.

Good news, and I thought Ron behind home plate was brilliant.

]

June 7, 2007
BREAKING NEWS: DARLING AGREES TO EXTENSION

This doesn't exactly come as a shock, but . . . SNY's new president, Steve Raab, announced Thursday that analyst Ron Darling has agreed to a contract extension.

Darling has been a hugely pleasant surprise in his two seasons on the Mets. Just Wednesday night he sat behind home plate at Shea and explained why when a pitcher takes a long time before throwing the ball it usually means it will be a fastball.

It's what analysts are supposed to do: Tell you stuff you never would have known or thought of on your own.

“Ron is a superb baseball analyst, whose work ethic is second to none,” Raab said in a statement. “He has established himself as one of the top analysts in all of Major League Baseball, and we’re thrilled he will continue to be a part of the SNY family for a long time.”

Said Darling in the same statement: “Working with Gary [Cohen], Keith [Hernandez] and the entire SNY crew – while covering an exciting team like the Mets – was a big factor in my staying at the network. I am so happy to be here in New York, and I’m looking forward to calling Mets games on SNY for many years to come.”

By the way, WFAN loves the work Darling has done on the radio as well and would love to expand his role on the station.

I agree. Ron does an excellent job. I really like the 3 man booth more than I did in the beginning. It provides a lot more info with Keith handling offensive commentary and Ron handling the pitching than most color booths that only have one ex-player. Early last year it either sounded like they were all talking at once or not talking and trying to stay out of one another's way (with Ron being the quietest). They have really become a great booth.

Does anyone else's sound suck on SNY?

No problem hearing the announcers or anything, but the background crowd-type noise comes through in a rising/falling pattern, sounding somewhat like cars wooshing past your open window on the highway.

It's not something that's sent me running to the radio (like Fran used to do) but it's annoying and occurs almost constantly despite happening on no other channel meaning it's not my TV or my cable system.

Seth Everett, the "MLB Insider" on the SNY pregame show, was just asked by Matt Yalloff whether the Mets are an elite team in the National League. He responded no they aren't even though they have the best record in the league, that he never thought they were a dominant team and that they are one of the three or four best teams in the league.

So they aren't elite, they have the best record, he didn't think they'd be that great and they're one of the best.

Where does one line up for a job as an MLB Insider?

Was a pretty good show. I wish, however, that whoever's responsible for production was as anal about details as I am. When discussing the '69 team, a photo of the '72 team appeared. When going in-depth about his first All-Star game in '67, footage from '68 was used. And it was noted in a graphic that his last All-Star appearance was 1991, pretty neat trick considering he hadn't pitched in the bigs since 1986. Also, there was a SEAVER 41 jersey hanging behind him that was a Sports Authority knockoff and nothing remotely like anything he (or any Met) ever wore.

Too picky? Maybe for a channel that isn't the self-proclaimed home of New York sports let alone home of the Mets. This is Tom Seaver we're talking about here. Get his visuals straight.

As for The Man himself, it was good to see him in the role of immortal instead of broadcaster where he deserved to be appraised like a normal human being. He's not a normal human being. He's Tom Seaver. When he did WB11 games from '99 to '05, I rarely got that feeling. Now in rare TS sightings, I do again. I like that.

Now to turn rationalizer/apologist: If the show in question was on Babe Ruth or Duke Snider, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to tell if they were using the right year's footage over a given anecdote. Perhaps '68 was what was available and they figured young Seaver in an All-Star setting was representative enough even if the first thing I thought when I heard "Anaheim" and saw a Mets home uniform was "hey, that's the Astrodome." I'd mention it to somebody, except the folks who produce "Mets Weekly" are with a separate company while the Seaver interview was an SNY thing and I don't know those guys (though I suppose there's always the "Dear Sirs" option.)

Gwreck: Glad you saw my cameo. I think I'm on again this week when the subject turns to a less-loved late '80s Mets second baseman. (FYI, still doing some writing/consulting for the show; will alert anybody interested when those segments come to light.)

Edgy: "The anal-retentive chef" was one of my all-time favorite bits. Come to think of it, I probably hadn't used that phrase since the loss of Phil Hartman. You're right, though. We shouldn't brush off inaccuracy by blaming ourselves for noticing it.

Nice to see on some level they've embraced the fact that there is going to be

Close enough.

Our merchandise department will be gearing up in the next month. Will post details when they are available.

I don't deserve a t-shirt.

Yes, but I suspect I watch with slightly more dedication than most.* I generally enjoy it quite a bit. Didn't mean to single you out as Capt'n Obvious.

I gotta say that when it comes to watching games in HD, YES has got it all over SNY.

First of all only Met home games are shown in HD on SNY. Road games are regular broadcasts.

On YES, all games are in HD. And not only that but the HD on YES is far, and I mean far, superior to that of SNY.

It is really such a better picture that I find myself watching Yankee games because of the picture. Truly.

Am I alone on this or has anyone else noticed? Any theories as to the quality difference between the two HD channels?

Does SNY have any plans to broadcast all Met games in HD and not just the home games?

This inquiring Mets fan wants to know.

Just funnin' with you. I get HDTV on only one tv, and it's not wide screen but
rather one of the last 200 pound clunkers that I bought from a friend's friend

I've been meaning to bring this up. Does anybody remember last season when Keith was in the booth analyzing a hitting prospect with a big Benny-type leg kick, I think for the Braves?

They did a slo-mo shot of his hitting form and Keith exclaimed, "Wow! His cock is bigger than Darryl Strawberry's!" or something.

All three guys must have pounded on their mute buttons because there was about 60 seconds of silence as they clearly broke up in laughter, until finally Gary composed himself, and came back in with an aside like, "Sorry, we had been cut out there, while Keith was talking about this player's leg kick (snicker) on his swing."

Anybody recall this?

Interesting stuff here on SNY. Not surprising that Michael Kay would say what he said working for who he does,

]

SNY talks fairly, quietly about Mets

Sure, baseball gets mocked here for its glacial pace and out-sized role in Big Town media.

But this week's operatic events in Flushing were a reminder of what the fuss is about - a sport whose melodrama unfolds daily over an insanely long season, starring a familiar cast of characters.

That includes the voices in TV and radio booths, who at times become part of the drama (more about that later) and at their best convey it as keen observers, yet not detached ones.

Consider Gary Cohen during the Mets' back-to-back, season-on-the-brink, soul-crushing Billy Wagner meltdowns against the Diamondbacks.

Wednesday night, what was telling wasn't so much his call of Carlos Beltran's game-winner. It was the subtler stuff.

Bottom of the ninth, one out, runner on first: "I would say the crowd is a lot quieter for a bottom-of-the-ninth, potential winning situation than it normally is after what transpired in the top of the inning."

Added Ron Darling: "It's like a punch in the gut, Gary, just trying to breathe."

Or bottom of the 13th, one out, runner on first: "Everybody connected with this team - players, coaches, manager, front office, fans - they'll stay up all night for a win right now."

Seventeen hours later, what had been a relaxed telecast featuring a visit from Ralph Kiner derailed in the face of another Wagner flameout.

This time, interestingly, the tone in the booth was less shocked, almost matter-of-fact, perhaps reflecting the numb reality that is beginning to settle in among fans and, who knows, maybe the team itself.

Cohen and Darling both wondered whether playing a day game after a night game was affecting Wagner, then Cohen noted the stunned silence in the stadium for a second consecutive bottom of the ninth.

"These are such strange times for this ballclub," he understated.

Of course, adding to the intrigue since YES launched in 2002 and SNY in 2006 is that every announcer is viewed through the prism of team-owned TV stations, especially during tough times.

So far SNY has an admirable record of objectivity, a sensitive subject at Shea since Willie Randolph's infamous shot at its camera shot selection last month.

But it's complicated. Here is GM Omar Minaya during a visit to the booth Wednesday: "All of us are together in this. I know that Ron, you care; I know that Gary, you care. I know the radio guys [care]. We are all in this as New Yorkers, and we want this to happen." In this together? Like I said, SNY mostly has avoided that trap. Or taken a sledgehammer to it.

During Mets-Padres Sunday, Keith Hernandez ripped the team for scheduling a charity function the night after a West Coast trip.

Hernandez has irked ownership before with his political incorrectness, but this was a direct shot at Chez Wilpon.

The next day on 1050 ESPN, Michael Kay, a veteran of the team-TV channel tightrope, weighed in. "I am amazed Keith Hernandez can keep his job," he said. "I'd be surprised if [he] was not called on the carpet ... If I am the Wilpons and I'm watching at home I'm throwing a shoe through the set."

I have no idea about the shoe, but it's a good bet Kay accurately gauged the Wilpons' reaction.

Still, it was not worth firing, or even punishing, a Mets icon. It was Keith being Keith.

Speaking of which, Sunday is the 25th anniversary of the trade that brought him to the Mets. I recently spoke to him about the milestone, and he recalled having to publicly urge fans to return to the ballpark as the team contended late in the '84 season.

"It was like Mets fans were afraid to come out and be hurt again," he said. "They started coming out in August. We filled it up, had great crowds. It was the beginning of a love affair for a whole decade."

That love has been tested many times since, certainly this week. The drama continues ...

I was kinda being facetious blaming Matt Yallof for the Mets troubles but I don't see SNY as a benign entity in the perception of this team at all. I think it's very existance serves to pump up expectations both by serving us state news and by generating revenues that fuel the contracts for mercenary scuzzbags like Wagner.

That's why I felt Willie's remarks about SNY were so off the wall when it's obvious the team relies so heavily on SNY to sell us the virtues of Willie.

The game broadcasts for the most part are the one oasis from the constant drumbeat of brainwashing but they are affected too.

I think what Kay says speaks more to who he is than who he works for. Every broadcaster --- Kansas City or New York, whether or not they work for a team-owned outlet --- works with the balance of being a reporter and being a shill. He's planted his flag firmly in the shiill camp, and he can't stomache the notion of somebody reminding him that it was actually a choice.

I remember in 2006 posting something that said, more or less, "Chris Cotter brings nothing to the table."

He would just sit and talk to fans who had nothing to say.

But I have to give props to Kevin Burkhardt. He's been a much better sideline reporter than Cotter was, and he actually provides substance. I had thought that sideline reporters were lame, but I now realize that only lame sideline reporters are lame.

I like that Burkhardt will pause in the middle of his sideline report to call pbp if something more interesting than his feature happens, or even someting less, and not lose his place.

It's murder when Ditzy McBigBreast interviewing somebody about "How big a fan are you?" while real action is occurring and scarcely being followed.

Agreed, I like Burkhardt a lot. I remember that Cotter was a last minute sideline guy and it was not what he was hired for so all things considered he did a decent job but was happy to be back in the studio.
