Jeff Pearlman strikes back at the man who won't go away even though we all wish he would.

My money's on Pearlman winning this little tete-a-tete. Don't pick a fight with a guy who buys bandwidth by the barrell.

Yup, sure, but he's allowed Rocker knock him a little off-balance here. He's damn close to losing journalistic perspective and Rocker has successfully reframed the argument from the facts of the story to Pearlman's biases.

Nothing wrong with getting angry at racism, but if this guy doesn't toe the line, he's going to start sounding just like Rocker in reverse.

BTW, I wouldn't know Jeff Perlman if he moved in next door, so he's not so famous as he thinks.

It's a big deal that Rocker took some guy's Twisted Sister disc?

Only when they're properly cooked.

Does anyone here, a group of people who constantly read sports stuff online,
think of John Rocker anytime you see something about him or by him. I mean,
I don't play hoops with the guy, but I'd be more worried about him dribbling past
me than thinking about a seven year old SI article on John Rocker. Seems to me
the tatoo is on the inside of his forehead.

Agreed.

The way Pealman wrote it it was more like "Rocker took a CD from some poor school with no funding, he spoke for five minutes, didn't write them a check (that was the unwritten but obvious point that i took from it) and left"

I'm sure within his profession, Pearlman probably is known as "The Rocker Article Guy", but I'm sure none of those basketball guys would've known who he was had his friend not said anything.

As for the CD, the admin of the school should've said, "No, ass, you can't have the Twisted Sister CD", but a look at the bigger picture, I think, reveals that Rocker did the school and the kids a favor by removing it.

Whatever - this is this the best Pearlman can do to in retaliation?

"He called me a liberal Jew?! Well, here's something I've been holding back for years! Brace yourself, its a bombshell - Rocker stole a cd!"

i'm not saying peralman did the righ thing or the wrong thing here, i'm just saying that i intrpreted that story as "Rocker is a jerk who doesnt care about the kids"

That was my take. It also shows a rather childish "gimme" attitude and sense of entitlement: if Rocker wants something, he expects you give it to him.

It is a little afterschoolspecialy, especially at the end, but I think the issue was put best above: It's a shame he allowed Rocker to reframe the argument to be about his integrity when by his actions Rocker proves the article was right all along: He's a hate-filled buffoon.

I love Leitch's interview technique

]And you two met when she was interviewing you? Because I want to make it clear that I'm not hitting on either one of you.

Yeah, all of her questions were, "Do you have a girlfriend?" "Would you like my number?" I just looked down her shirt, saw what I needed to see and moved on. (Laughs.) I took a leap of faith, because she had a long coat on, and she could have had big birthin' hips or something.

I see.

But I found her, and here we are. The hips are fine.

Yes. Want another drink?

Yes please.

Also, what's Rocker got against birthin' hips?

Deadspin Interview with Rocker

I don't doubt that Pearlman will prevail should this deteriorate into a war of words between he and Rocker. In a battle of wits, Rocker is pretty much an unarmed man.

Edgy DC

Yeah, but, he had already one. Rocker has become an irrelvancy desperately searching for a platform, and Pearlman the Part Time Pooler allowing him to force a response to his bleating in the wilderness, will end up giving Rocker a platform --- his choice of platforms.

Rocker's had a good day, his first good one in a while professionally.

Good point. Best to let Rocker fade away into obscurity.

I love "The Bad Guys Won"...but I'm very unimpressed with both the writing-style (or whatever you call it) in that book, the article posted here, and the other stuff Pearlman has written.

"Rocker's book is due out in 2008."

I didn't think it would take that long to release a book written in crayon.

I'm thinking the chick he's using for cover is wondering how she's going to stay with him that long.

Just found this oldie I wrote.
enjoy,
Later

Me and Rocker

John and me
Walked by a tree
On our way to the subway station.
I like that boy,
He’s the ultimate “goy”
The pinup of the Aryan Nation.

He’s on his way,
Don’t know where he’s goin’
He’s on his way
Cause of all the trouble he’s in.
Just me and Rocker,
down by the school yard.

He said it out loud,
And he said it proud
About a monochrome nation
About his fears
Of all those queers
Down at the subway station.

And aliens, too
Kids with hair blue
And other folks too many to mention.
He said it then
Then said it again
Now he‘s in Selig’s House of Detention.

Acted like a big geek
Now in a few weeks
He’ll again be taking up our attention.
When the decision comes down
He’ll be leavin’ this town
Trying to figure where he’d get a pension.

Yes, he’s on his way
But he don’t know where or when.
Yes he’s on his way
To a land where they pay in Yen?
Just me and Rocker
Down by the school yard.
Just me and Rocker,
Down by the school yard.
