His wife had never seen him without a beard until Willie made him shave.

Coulda been worse. Willie coulda ordered all the Mets' wives to shave, too.

Upon arriving, he commented on how the Mets blue hats and pinstripes were classic, etc

Excellent.

Great 2005 in every respect and the absolute epitome of a great bench player (young veteran in his first year transistioning from a starting role). Lousy 06 but for that crazy Giants game in May, suggesting once again that bench players, like relievers, ought to be turned over every year.

Good luck, but not too much good luck, in 07, CW.

Well, he went through much of 2006 with a bum shoulder.

My problem with him in 2006 is that we didn't have enough options to knock him out, what with the failures of Hernandez and Matsui and Jeff Keppinger's lack of versatility and power.

cleonjones hated him.

2006: A hellacious series in Chicago. Was robbed of a homer by an umpire.

2005: Versatility out the yin-yang. He had never or rarely played the outfield when Willie stuck him out there in Pedro's first Shea start and he made a sensational running catch that helped preserve/build the win. Typical of the value he brought to the bench.

Both years: He was the Sultan of Swing. He may go down as the last player to come to bat to a song that was a hit when I was in high school. That's gotta be worth something for his permanent record.

Hit a walkoff HR in '05. He said it was his first one ever, including Little League.
