Saw this on New Years Day. Good dystopic film set in a near future (2027) where women have been infertile for 18 years (those of you who are looking to have more babies had better hurry) and the world is basically like Baghdad is today. Hard to believe it was a PD James novel.

Loved this movie. Just a beautiful, dark, piece of work, which managed to surprise despite a relatively straightforward narrative. Some elements taken out of context might seem fantastic, but the movie does a great job of setting them up, and making the whole thing feel eerily realistic.

Great movie.

Struck me halfway though that this was an odd choice as the first movie to see at the theater in more than a year thanks to Junior arriving. There were moments I felt WAY too hard and was so moved I could barely enjoy it. More like I survived it. Holy rare date night!

Anyway, bleak! And scary! That statue they found Miranda at was Union Square after 9/11 OBVIOUSLY! More subtle reminders of this being USA/Iraq in 2007 everywhere!

Yet there were more parts where I couldn't perfectly follow why everyone was fighting, wich bad guys were which, and how they got where they did. I also found Michael Caine's Jasper irritating and well, didn't feel that bad when ... you know ...

I should also mention there are some very cool action sequences (the whole sequence with the assassins on the motorcyle and the driving backwards -- wow!) and an overlook look that's pretty damn arresting.

The nine-star ranking system above confuses me. I mean to vote that is was good but maybe not great, as in "Great time at the movies!" great. It's pretty darn good if you're into the whole end of the universe NOW!!! thing.
