Song: “I Am the Franchise”
Subject: Tom Seaver
A Parody Of: “I Am the Walrus” by the Beatles
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am me as you can see as we agree that I am number one
See how I'm loved in '67, won R-O-Y
I'm flying

Party in the clubhouse, champions in '69
Warhol did a painting, stupid ugly silk screen
Man, I look just like the soup and Marilyn Monroe

I am Tom Seaver
I am Terrific
I am The Franchise
Goo Goo G'joob

New York City's greatest pitcher, once struck out ten Padres in a row
Mowed down the guys as easy as pie, won three Cy Youngs
I'm flying, I'm fly-------------ing
I'm flying, I'm fly-------------ing

The Midnight Massacre, sent me off to Ohio
Cincinnati saw me throw my only no-no
Grant, you were a naughty boy you let your Mets fans down

I am Tom Seaver
I am Terrific
I am The Franchise
Goo Goo G'joob

Sitting in the Boston dugout but my ankle's bum
And the Mets they won, look at the fans, there's nothing like a win at Shea

I am Tom Seaver
I am Terrific
I am The Franchise
Goo Goo G'joob, G'goo Goo G'joob

Expert hurler growing older, don't you think I'd do well in the booth? (ho ho ho, he, he he, ha, ha, ha)
See how I smile with a bronze NY, I was enshrined
I'm flying

Now I own a vineyard, would you like to buy some wine?
And I'm hocking PayPass, boy it's pretty easy
Yes, they really pay me just for saying "tap and go"

I am Tom Seaver
I am Terrific
I am The Franchise
Goo Goo G'joob, G'goo Goo G'joob
Goo Goo G'joob, G'goo Goo G'joob G'Goo
Juba! Juba! Juba!
Juba juba juba, juba juba, juba juba, juba juba…

Soup will need to bring something special to the table.

This should be a great opening round match.

The laughing after asking if he'd do well in the booth alone would make it hard to top. Soupcan, do your best.

[Sports Broadcast Commentator Trying To Sound Like Cosell Voice]Soupcan came into this bout filled with KAHN-fidence over his selection of Met players to choose from. But time will tell if that will overcome the obstacle of Transmonk's excellent useage of a classic Beatle song parody honoring the greatest player to EVER wear a New York Met Uniform. It certaintly will be a challange. Best of luck Soupy![/Sports Broadcast Commentator Trying To Sound Like Cosell Voice]

Monk has penned a true classic. While I don't want to concede defeat I realize I've got an uphill climb...

I'm going for the 'swing vote'. Swing vote. Get it?

Song: “Catcher Man Named Choo-Choo”
Subject: Choo-Choo Coleman
A Parody Of: “Chattanooga Choo-Choo” by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pardon me sir, how did you get the nickname 'Choo-Choo'?
Hey, hey, sorry I never knew. So much for your interview...
Can you tell me at least about the gal you married Choo-Choo?
Hey, hey hands off my dame, I will not tell you her name.

You have got quite a reputation as fleet-footed man
However there's the matter of that glove in your hand
Umpires thought it risky behind you at the disc-y
Suffice it to be said you were no Carlton Fisk-y

When you hit those line drives off the bat they looked great
Too bad for you that most of them were scored 'Flyout 8'
Don't you know this guy here, he's roomed with you all year
Choo-Choo Coleman is behind the plate.

You'll always get a lot of credit from history
Integration was tough, but Choo-Choo you were no puff.
You were no all-star, doesn't matter you were on our club
So, Catcher Man named Choo-Choo, you can just call me 'bub'.

Catcher Choo-Choo, Catcher Choo-Choo you're the man
Catcher Choo-Choo, Catcher Choo-Choo catch what you can
Catching like you're frightened, umpire's senses heightened
Focusing for all your pitchers must be tightened
Catcher Choo-Choo, Catcher Choo-Choo on our club
Catcher Choo-Choo, Catcher Choo-Choo call me 'bub'

That Choo Choo Coleman story just never gets old. If it's this funny reading about it, just think how it must have been to watch it

Are we doing 24 hours? If so, this one will end at 11:09 tonight.

If it's 48, then 11:09 tomorrow night.

Actually, I think it is midnight tonight as I believe it is 24 weekday hours.

Choo Choo not good enough

As much as I love the Chatanooga Choo Choo, it was a little obvious. Seaver as the Franchise (Walrus) was more inspired.

Great job by both. Truly amazing.

C'mon. We had history with "Hey, hey hands off my dame, I will not tell you her name."

After Willets Point reminded folks of last year's similar song (I was outta town for that one and didn't remember it) the TransMonk vote soared. Curiously, in the next round last year Willets was defeated by my parody of "I Am the Walrus" -- a winning song if there ever was one.

Yeah I suppose the obvious song choice isn't always the best. Monk deserved it though. He definitely put a lot more time and effort into his.

To summarize: After partcipating in the song parody challenge twice, two lessons I've learned are 1) Choose a song that everyone knows and 2) Don't be too obvious.

Got it. Ready for next year.

I don't know about an asskickiing...as this thread states, it was once tied at 8. Soup, you were certainly a worthy opponent.

Soup's bullpen let him down, and he needs to re-work his relief corps by next year.

Soup should also find a different starting catcher.
