We had agreed on posting Monday but I'm two hours early. Won't have time tomorrow at work probably.

Song: “The Ballad of Gary - 'The Kid'"
Subject: Gary Carter
A Parody Of: “The Ballad of Billy the Kid” by Billy Joel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From a town known as Culver City, Cali'
Came a star for the middle of the order
And the way he played in his prime
Made him a legend in his time
North and South of Canada's border

Well, he started with a team in Montreal
On some real crap squads, he was hid
But with his bat and his glove
Playing a game he did love
And the word spread of Gary - "The Kid"

Well, Cashen wanted him in the Apple
He had a trade in the works
In December '84 "The Kid" came to town
Away went Mike and Herm
Away went Floyd and Brooks
You just knew good things would be going down

Well, in '86 he was with the Amazins
That team sure did turn some heads
He led them to an early clinch
He even played third in a pinch
After that big brawl with the Reds

(PIANO INTERLUDE)

Well, it looked bleak in inning 10
But the fans said "ya gotta believe" - we did!
And Carter got that first hit
You knew the Mets wouldn't quit
Who scored first? Gary - "The Kid"

Well, he hung it up as an Expo
After '92 'twas a wrap
And even though he said it'd be a shame
Instead of that "N-Y"
They put Montreal on his cap
On that Hall of fame plaque that bears his name

In a town known as Cooperstown, he's honored
A catching star for the middle of the order
And the way he played in his prime
Made him a legend in his time
North and South of Canada's border

I had to leave here, I could not stay
No longer wanted, Fred was afraid
Beat my wife before that day,
I’m Chased from New York wish it were not true,

Don’t believe in Dinosaurs, I committed a crime
No real fossils for us to find,
Just things made up in, their mind
I’m telling you it’s a con-spir-ra-cy
Broke up a no-hitter, it was really sweet,
Yankmee fans, suffered

I cannot hit here, glad to see me leave
Just like Moon-landings, my power is make-believe
Out of Town, I disappear
Seems… no one will save me, and keep me here,

Don’t believe in Dinosaurs, I committed a crime
No real fossils for us to find,
Just things made up in, their mind
I’m telling you it’s a con-spir-ra-cy
Broke up a no-hitter, it was really sweet,
Yankmee fans, suffered

Don’t want a gay teammate
Don’t want a gay teammate
I’d tell you I hate them
You’d just fine me

Oh!
Don’t believe in Dinosaurs, I committed a crime
No real fossils for us to find,
Just things made up in, their mind
I’m telling you it’s a con-spir-ra-cy
Broke up a no-hitter, it was really sweet,
Yankmee fans, suffered

edit- before i confuse anyone, Carl Everett has been accused at various times of beating his wife, beating his kids, not believing in dinosaurs (and claiming man made fossils to lie about them), believing Apollo 11 never happened, and claiming he'd retire before he'd play with a gay teammate.

My coolness is taking a beating here, but I can't even find a sound clip of that AFI song.

They're, like, a contemporary alternative band are they? (ducks)

Thanks!

They really maxed out that $50 video budget.

thank for finding the video clip, i'm 99% sure that although that is the song it is not their video, so try not to hold it against them lol

That's some fanboi's cheapass video. Just open a new browser window to cover it up while you listen to the song.
