An awful lot of new blood in the competition this year. Should lead to an interesting competition. Last year, Yancey, a virtual newbie to the contest, swept his way to the title with a self defacing demeanor and a collection of strong parodies.

I'm enjoying simply reading the work of others without the stress of trying to actually write a parodies this year. Best of luck to all the particpants.

mm, whenever you're ready . . .

Rockin' Doc
Jan 10 2007 12:35 PM

I believe Nymr's downfall was that most members were not familiar with the song he parodied. I think people don't fully appreciate the the quality of a parody if they can't get the tune to the song in their head.

Besides, he ran into a proven winner when Gwreck paired Gary Carter and the Legend of Billy the Kid. I used the same combination to reach the semifinals in 2004. Some songs and players are just made for one another

Nymr83
Jan 10 2007 01:54 PM

certainly my pool of players didn't help but thats hardly an excuse, Everett is enough of a scumbag and an idiot to give me plenty of material. The sing issue is probably a difficult one to overcome, I don't know much old people music and I couldn't think of a Billy Joel or Beatles song that fit.

Benjamin Grimm

"Old people music" he says.

metsmarathon
Jan 16 2007 01:59 PM

ever run across a song that you know is is an absolute winner for your chosen subject, but find yourself struggling to turn it around into such a winner?

i'm so there. i have the song, i have the subject, i even think i have the refrain. but its the first two verses that are killing me here.

(i almost hope to eventually lose this round so as not to have to go through this again, but for higher stakes next time.)

maybe by tomorrow, i can finish my song - i have hope that i can somehow manage not to be the last first rounder ready!

I'll give OO until noon tomorrow to check in. I'm not comfortable emailing
someone I don't correspond with off-board although I think I have an email

lunch tomorrow.

If I don't hear anything, you guys can decide what to do.

ScarletKnight41
Jan 23 2007 03:50 PM

My 2 cents is that you write to OO and ask him whether he plans to participate. If you don't hear from him after 24 hours, I think it's safe to assume that he either changed his mind or is otherwise unable to compete this year.

Sheesh - I was doing no such thing.

I thought you were seeking opinions. I was basically giving you license to get a bye if OO didn't show up after reasonably trying to contact him.
