D-Dad and I are seeing this one later today. It looks kind of formulaic, but the acting is supposed to be good (Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominations for Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett, respectively).

This was a well done film - excellent acting, and a well written script. I suppose my biggest problem is that the trailer gives too much of the film away, but it's hard to penalize the film for the marketing department's bonehead decisions.

Judi Dench does an incredible job of bringing understanding to an inherently unlikable character. Cate Blanchett allows her character to be sympathetic despite her flaws. Bill Nighy as Cate's husband turned in a solid performance.

This won't suffer from the small screen. And the odds are that it's Helen Mirren's year to win Best Actress. But if you're in the mood to see a film with Oscar nominated performances, this is a good choice.
