Song: “Heatwave'"
Subject: Roger McDowell
A Parody Of: “Heatwave” by Martha & The Vandellas
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whenever I'm with him
Something near
Starts to burnin'
And I'm filled with fear

Could it be the devil in him
Or just somethin' he does on a whim

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heel
Can't keep from cryin'
It's makin' me squeal

Whenever he calls my name
While we're watchin the game
I feel, right there, I feel that burning flame

'Dis how athlete's foot s'posed to be
Or is Roger trying to do somethin' to me

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heel
Can't keep from cryin'
It's makin' me squeal

<Baritone Sax Solo>

Sometimes I stare in space
Blank look over my face
I can't explain it, don't understand it
I 'ain't trying to be his next

How'd he get me anyway, I'm amazed
I don't know what to do, my foot's ablaze

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heel
Can't keep from cryin'
It's makin' me squeal

Can't pass up a good chance
Sisk's over there in a trance

Just like a heatwave...

This may be our first entry ever about that old-time baseball tradition, the hotfoot.

Good job, Can't wait to see Edgy's entry.

Okay, who is the Admin Suckup voting for Edgy before he even posts!

Gwreck
Jan 15 2007 09:33 PM

Wow, mine was that bad, huh? Voting for the other guy before his was posted. No, seriously, you can tell me to my face.

SC = moderate, unless it was Edgy voting.

Feel free to discount that one in the final tally.

What a drag when the batter gets a hold!

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

"Rules are different today"
Guillermo Mota had to say
"Pitchers need some help or they get knocked around!"
And though he’s not really ill
There’s an anabolic pill
He goes running to his dealer
For some 'roids and some concealer
And it helps him with his heat
Why should batters only cheat?

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

"Guillermo's different today"
I heard Dodger players say
He's aggressive and he's surly like a dick
Then his fastball flies off-track
And he beans Piazza's back
He goes running like a coward
Leaves the park but hasn't showered
'Cuz Piazza wants him dead
Wants to beat his swollen head

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

"Sheffield please
I'm on my knees
Mike's at the door
He's out for war!"
What a drag when the batter gets a hold!

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

Mets just aren’t the same today
Since Minaya rules the day
There's a pennant race and Duaner's on the shelf
"Fans are hard to satisfy
Guillermo's cheap, he'll get a try"
And with Mota's little helper
He drives batters helter skelter
And he dominates the league
And there's minimum intrigue

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

"Sheffield please
Some more of these
I've got to score
I'll be your whore
What a drag when the press might get a hold"

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

The offseason comes too quick
All the credit goes to Rick
Blaming drugs for all success just seems a bore
But before he gets undressed
Guillermo fails a routine test
Caught with Mota's little helper
Gets a fifty-game dispeller
But he still gets Wilpon's pay
(Jeffy still thinks Mike was gay)

(Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo)

FTR, that's the Lovely Stones' "Mother's Little Helper." Nice.

Not to belittle Gwreck's terrific parody, but sharpie previously put hotfoots (hotfeet?) to music in the fadeout of the brilliant I Am McDowell.

Edgy once called "Mother's Little Helper" a gimmick song and now he's using it as source material. I'm gritting my teeth a bit.

Edgy gets lucky that his subject became a big, timely and easily-parodiable story, but to his credit, he hits that hanging curve pretty hard. It's a double, not a home run, since the signature "drag" line is sorta clumsy.

I don't think gwreck needs to be penalized for going with hotfeet in a McDowell parody before he was on board here.

good job both a yuhs

No penalty intended, just letting MFS know it wasn't the first time (and I wanted to give praise to one of my all time faves).

Thanks Willets. Hotfoot also invoked in the next-to-last full verse of that song. Hard to write about McDowell without invoking the hotfoot.

This contest has been going on long enough that things like that are bound to happen. I agree with Johnny that there is no penalty on that for gwreck. Good job both of you.

Didn't remember that prior song. It may have been before I got here, too.
But thanks for pointing it out.
This was a toughie, as the current tie indicates.

hot feet

nice job, both of you! I agree that it's hard not to think of a hot foot when thinking of McDowell, considering out prominent that activity was in the '86 team video.

I also think of Roger and Jesse swapping places in the outfield in that game in Cincinnati, but the old Osmonds song "[like a] yo-yo" is WAY to obscure to use here as a parody!

Look at the bright side:

1) You lost by more than one vote, so your noble gesture of not counting that bastard vote before you posted isn't what sent this one into GushBore Hell

2) You don't have to get in trouble at work composing another parody this year on your boss's dime

3) It's actually quite a sunny morning.

Edgy DC

I rhymed "today" with "the day."

sharpie
Jan 17 2007 07:23 AM

My main problem with Edgy's song was that the title should've been "Mota's Little Helper."

Edgy DC
Jan 17 2007 07:35 AM

That is the title.

sharpie
Jan 17 2007 07:59 AM

It doesn't have it above the song so it looks like the awkward "What a Drag When When the Batter Gets a Hold" is the title. I voted for it despite that.

iramets
Jan 17 2007 08:12 AM

="Edgy DC"]That is the title.

And we non-mindreaders were supposed to know that how, exactly?

Votes coming in beyond the deadline. Very disturbing development, now putting us into GushBore territory.

Edgy DC
Jan 17 2007 08:16 AM

I've conceded. I won't unconcede like Gore did.

Not including the title doesn't mean that wasn't the title, as Sharpie implied.

I did use that phrase in lieu of the original title line twice in the song.

Edgy's parody was great. I thought I was doomed once I saw his.
