Song: “Jim Lindeman'"
Subject: Jim Lindeman
A Parody Of: “Ramblin' Man” by The Allman Brothers Band
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lord, I was born Jim Lindeman,
Tryin to play some baseball and doin the best I can
Although my career's over
I hope you'll understand
I was born Jim Lindeman

Well my college ball was played down in Peoria
Yeah, was teammates with Kirby Puckett
Played against him in the World Series
In '87 we won it

Lord, I was born Jim Lindeman
Tryin to play some baseball and doin the best I can
Although my career's over
I hope you'll understand
I was born Jim Lindeman

I made my way to Detroit, Philly, Houston
Then played on a team I sure did like
In '94 had some good pinch hits down at Shea
Yeah, played my last game right before the strike

Lord, I was born Jim Lindeman
Tryin to play some baseball and doin the best I can
Although my career's over
I hope you'll understand
I was born Jim Lindeman

[repeat and fade]
Lord, I was born Jim Lindeman...

WHO'LL START POOR WAYNE?
(an attempt at parody of CCR's "Who'll Stop the Rain?")

Long as I remember, Met third-basemen have bit.
None out of the many could field, run or hit.
From Zimmer through Buchek, we’ve been through shame and pain.
So I wonder, still I wonder-- who’ll start poor Wayne?

Torre and Fregosi, Aspromonte and Foy,
All of them acquired to displace our redhaired boy.
Swapping out young talent without plan, foresight or brain,
So I wonder, still I wonder –who’ll start poor Wayne?

An on-base guy with power, he wore a Series ring,
Hit a Series homer, but still every Spring,
He’d have to win his job back from the vet the Mets obtained.
So I wonder, still I wonder—who’ll start poor Wayne?

To get Jimmy Dwyer and the great Angel Mangual,
The Mets shipped Garrett off to play for Montreal,
And lost a smile that Murph called “out of Mark Twain.”
So I wonder, still I wonder—who’ll start poor Wayne?

as performed by the Boss at Shea in 2003:

Dude's got four guitarists and I can scarcely hear any of them.

They didn't have Leiter's tambourine turned up enough either during those shows.

(Nice job iramets).

Yeah, Springsteen's shitty mix will probably hurt me here, but I had to go for the Shea connection.

(Back atcha, Gwreck. Best of luck.)

Referring to Pepe Mangual as Angel Mangual is the Jimmy Qualls to Iramets' Seaveriffic performance. G does well with a rougher subject.

Yes, I got mixed up with inept 1970s outfielding Manguals. (Pepe and Angel have the same syllables, so substitute away.) Wait, it helps to have a worse subject to write about? I've been operating on the opposite principle--if you've got an obscure subject, you've got fewer memories to work with.

No I didn't say it was better to work with a more obscure subject. I'm remarking that G did a good job with a difficult subject.

That's certainly true.

Do you award extra points, though, for working wiith an obscure subject? I ask because I wrack my brain trying to figure out which player's story people are likely to be familiar with, and it's unnecessary effort if I'm only hurting my chances by doing that.

I think I only judge relative to the other one posted, so each time it'd be different.

Very hard choice, two good songs

G takes a page of my playbook with a career spanning song, but Ira does a great job crystalizing the annoyance that fans have when an organization seems to do wrong by a favorite player who should be starting over various others that are brought in.
