Subject - Kevin Mitchell
Song - Sugar, Sugar (The Archies)

Mitchell,
Oh, Kevin Mitchell.
Got a hit in Game Six,
But still got sent to the sticks.
Kevin,
Oh, Mitchell Mitchell.
Got a hit in Game Six,
But still got sent to the sticks.

I just can't believe Doc said you killed your girlfriend's cat.
(I just can't believe it's true).
And I can't believe you won MVP after that.
(I just can't believe it's true).

Mitchell,
Oh, Kevin Mitchell.
Got a hit in Game Six,
But still got sent to the sticks.
Kevin,
Oh, Mitchell Mitchell.
Got a hit in Game Six,
But still got sent to the sticks.

When you were on third,
With two outs in the tenth inning.
Stanley came into the game
Then you tied the game
When Mookie got out of the way.
(Right before Buckner went lame).

But then the Mets sent you to San Diego (Mitchell)
Banished your hot stick from New York town (Kevin, Kevin)
You, who swung the bat so sweet (Yeah Yeah Yeah.)
You, a future MVP (oh yeah)
Dumped you, Anderson and K-Brown
Brought Kevin McReynolds into town
It was an historic deal (hey hey hey)
Most Kevins in one baseball swap!

Mitchell,
Oh, Kevin Mitchell.
Got a hit in Game Six,
But still got sent to the sticks.

Oh Mitchell (Mitchell, Mitchell, Kevin, Kevin)
Mitchell, Mitchell
Got a hit in Game Six....

BENNY'S BRAIN

In Benny’s Brain there is a gallery of photographs
Of every ball he’s had the pleasure to throw
And all the basehits that come and go
They’re all in slo-mo.

There’s the time one afternoon he caught a long flyout
The little children called to him, they want the ball
So he gives it to the smallest one of all
But there were two outs, Jack, give it back.

Benny’s Brain’s between his ears and near his eyes
There beneath the blue Hawaiian skies
He sits, and meanwhile back

In Benny’s Brain he’s batting in a crucial playoff game
And it’s the bottom of the thirteenth out in Queens
He hits a homer and all of the fans scream
Like a scream machine.

Benny’s Brain’s between his ears and near his eyes
Hit ten homers in just fifty tries
One summer, meanwhile back

Inside the dugout after he had just been grounded-out
The burly vendors selling hotdogs from a tray
And though he hopes he isn’t in a trade
He is anyway.

In Benny’s Brain he goes from Denver out to Old Boston
And then he plays for Chiba Lotte and Bobby V.
And wins the Japanese World Series
And sells coffee beans, very keen.

Benny’s Brain’s between his ears and near his eyes
There beneath the blue Hawaiian skies
He sits, and meanwhile back.
Benny’s Brain’s between his ears and near his eyes
There beneath the blue Hawaiian skies
Benny’s Brain.

Wow, two great entries and two great songs!

I never knew Reggie was the lead singer.

I love both of these. My vote comes down to two laugh out loud lines versus one:

]There’s the time one afternoon he caught a long flyout
The little children called to him, they want the ball
So he gives it to the smallest one of all
But there were two outs, Jack, give it back.

And sells coffee beans, very keen.

]I just can't believe Doc said you killed your girlfriend's cat.
(I just can't believe it's true).

Nice job, both of you.

I liked them both as well.

'Sugar Sugar' is a great choice. I'll be singing 'Oh Mitchell, Mitchell' from now on every time I hear it.

Gotta go with sharpie though - those blue Hawaiian skies did it for me.

They're both brilliant, but I can sing Sharpie's better somehow.

My god, I love that song. Very nice, both.

I don't understand how Archie can play the guitar holding it up by his face like that. It's practically a Hendrix tour-de-force. Very impressive.

The lopsidedness of this really doesn't do SK's song justice, it really is fantastic.

Sharpie just blew me away though.

Archie doesn't care about tired old dead hippy acid dinosaurs like Hendrix. He scorns your generation and your pretentious bourgeois moral crap.

Agreed. I'm laughing over the girlfriend's cat line

Woulda been better if they played An-Archie in the UK.

Archie is at the heart of what I dislike about Hanna Barbera. The Archies videos and the Brady Kids videos are the same movements built upon some kind of animation template. Greg=Archie / Peter=Reggie / Jan=Veronica / Marcia=Betty / Bobby=Jughead. All they did for the Brady kids was draw Cindy in the lower lefthand corner.

I demand more from my music videos.

They rewrote the book, Hanna-Barbera did, from 1955-1965. But the seventies crap I grew up on was all about acquiring properties and animating them on the cheap.

I always wondered what was up with Jan/Veronica's foot

Congratulations sharpie.

I knew after the first round that I was going to be in trouble if I made it to the second. BTW, are you aware that, for the past two years, I lost to the eventual champion (CF and Yancy, respectively)? We'll see whether the trend continues.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words. Honestly, I had a tough time getting enthusiastic about my options (sharpie - my only revenge on you is that you're not getting any good players from me <g>). After my Tony Tarasco parody, I had a tough time finding inspiration. But Bubblegum Pop has worked well for me in the past, so I went back to the well to give it another shot. If nothing else, it gave me a chance to relive my childhood and post that Archies cartoon <g>

OK - now onto the Loosers' Lounge. Where's that shrimp?

Sorry, Scarlett, the shrimp is gone. (Burp!)

There are still a few stale Saltines here and there.

Well order some refills! There's a new batch of loosers who will be joining us this week!

Thanks, Scarlet. I thought yours was very good and as others have said the score didn't reflect the merits of the two songs.

For what its worth, I also lost to Yancy and CF the past two years. Spooky.

I don't know what happened to the thread that listed who had who. I have no idea of the identity of the scrubs that I got from Scarlet and Lundy.

(on edit): Just found it. It needs updating, however, as does the bracket thread.
