Verizon FIOS

FIOS is Verizon's pet name for their fiber optic service which is now available in my area as the wonderful world of competition among TV providers becomes a realiity.
From what I can tell, it looks like they're offering at least as much, if not more, and for somewhat le$$ than what I'm currently getting from Cablevision (although I haven't read all the fine print yet) plus the possibility of maybe more savings by bundling TV, phone & internet.

Anyone had any experience with these guys?
I'm not asking you to quote me prices and so on - it won't necc be the same in my locale anyway so I'll dig that stuff up on my own. It's just that with Verizon being new to the TV biz and all, I'm wondering if you or anyone you know has given them a whirl and has any horror stories (or not) to tell.

Just for the heck of it, price cable/internet and NOT phone. I wouldn't be surprised if Vonage (~25 a month) isn't cheaper for that part of of it.

Verizon may charge you more for each of cable/Internet and you'd prolly still save some (I suspect), since Verizon certainly isn't known for their cheap phone service.

I also think the Fios people are prolly dying for customers and may offer some kina moneyback or discount join program.

I think you should try it and let us know how it works.

I've had FIOS since last May and it's been fine. About 10 bucks cheaper per month than Comcast. Speed is about the same for browsing, much faster for uploads/downloads. Haven't experienced any downtime.

Don't get me started on verizon.

Too late.

I have their internet (and I hate myself for it) but they screwed me for SOOO long.

I ordered it and they said it would take between 10 days and 2 weeks for it to come in. . . nothing happened on my account after 10 days so I started to get a little suspicious. So I am on the phone with at least 5 different people over the next week. Everyone just says that I have to wait. . . or gives me some weird kind of run around.

3 weeks comes and goes and I am FURIOUS trying to get someone to help. I am on the phone everyday for at least an hour getting passed from one division to the next. I got to the point where I knew more about the system than most of the people I talked to on the phone. They would try to send me somewhere, but I would know that they were wrong, and correct them.

FINALLY after a MONTH I talk to a guy who says "oh, whoever placed your order didn't place it correctly. We switched the way we do it on that day and they put it in the old way. It would have just sat there until you brought it to our attention.

At this point I lost my shit because I had been bringing it to their attention for nearly 3 weeks. I had to replace my order, which put me at the back of the queue. . . which I fought tooth and nail over and, of course, this scares the shit out of me because I have already been trying to get it for nearly 5 weeks. However, this time it goes through smoothly.

Now, normally, i would say that I just had bad luck. However, during this trial, I found out that my sister, my best friend AND one of his HS friends had issues with installation. All of them got delayed for a month or more.

Since then, everything has been fine. . . *knock on wood*

So, if you are going to get it, I suggest keeping on them to make sure everything is running smoothly prior to installation.
