A Tribute

In tribute to Centerfield's Baby Miranda, Kase, Scarlet, and I have set up a page at the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, to accept donations in Miranda's memory. Starlight is a charity the Mets support, which uses their resources to bring joy and comfort to children suffering serious illnesses. They have New York's highest rating for a charity's fiscal responsiblity.

It's worth noting Centerfield is more than the King. In the spring of 2005, when New Yorker Met fans were grumbling about the impasse between Time-Warner and Cablevision, it was Centerfield who was proactive and marched to City Hall, articulately testifying before the City Council as to how the arrogance and entitlement of the cable compaines, fueled by anti-competitive behavior and exclusive contracts, had robbed New Yorkers in five boroughs of access to a product they were desperately willing to pay for. He took a bit of his allotted time to turn to the reps for Time-Warner and Cablevision to upbraid them for drowning the customers in propoganda blaming the other side for the impasse, instead of putting their energy into negotiating an agreement. Within weeks, the Mets were back on televisions across New York. He's more than the King. He's Prometheus. He's King Prometheus.

So give out of thanks to King Prometheus, give in tribute to Baby Miranda, give out of thanks for your healthy children.

Just put something in the hat. And ask your friends to also.

What a wonderful acknowledgement. In gratitude for my own two daughters, I give, and encourage all others to do so.

This is another example of the fine people that inhabit this site. You all make me proud to be a small part of this internet community.

In just over two days, Baby Miranda's Starlight Starbright page has exceeded it's goal of $500. There is currently $611 contributed in her honor. Awesome job by all that have contributed.

In setting the goal as I did, I'm criminally guilty of low expectations.

Thanks so much folks.

No, I should be the one thanking people.

You guys rock.

After a remarkable overnight rally, we are now at 256% of our goal.

Amazing. I'm sure the Faith and Fear link was a big help in running up the total.

I've just added a link my own self: http://www.ultimatemets.com/

Hopefully the pot will continue to grow.

That thermometer looks as though its about to burst.

Edgy DC

If anybody wants to try and burst it, we're 19 bucks short of $1700.

And two grand would make a lovely figure.

In honor of Miranda, Matt Cerrone of www.metsblog.com created a link on his page featuring a Charity of the Week. (it's on the right hand side).

His first featured charity is Miranda's Fund.

Way to go. We got the $19 to put us up to $1700.

Thanks for increasing the goodness.

A few donations over the weekend got us to $1,750, 350% of our orignal goal. I've also received a thank you from Starlight Starbright foundaton. Great work again.

But $2,000 would be such a fun round number --- and a reflection fo the Mets 2000 pennant. Do I hear $2,000?

And Irish - thanks. Presumably the foundation can handle crediting a check to this fund. But even if it can't, any donation made in honor of Miranda's memory is a mitzvah (a good deed).

I got the notification that my donation had been received, so I guess I did it right, which is a minor miracle.

I got a letter too. That, and my free copy of Kiss it Good-bye from a year ago, are the only tangible items I've ever encountered stemming from my involvement with the Crane Pool Forum.

Other than those two instances, my involvement here has been entirely electronic.

We're now $69 short of two grand. Sixty-nine dollars. If you're the one who has been waiting to contribute because you wanted to be the donor who brought us over the magic threshold, well, here's your chance.

Edgy DC
Feb 07 2007 02:28 PM

$1981.

The Miranda Fund is now up to $2,311.00

$2,500 seems reachable.

Centerfield
Feb 15 2007 11:02 AM

$2,500 it is. Thank you everyone. I can't express how much this means.

(this message not meant to be a deterrent to future donations)

ScarletKnight41

There's still money coming in. The fund is now up to $2,600.
