Ilan is dumb enough to choose Betty as a sous chef, but brings a few strong dishes.

Marcel (Mike, Sam assisting) coming to bat.

And Marcel's teammates (and his vinegrette balls!) let him down!

But can his gelee carry the day?

Judges 5-course scorecard seems to go:

Chef 1 2 3 4 5
Ilan 0 1 1 0 1 -- 3
Marcel 1 0 1 1 1 -- 4

Iilan prolly pulls even with the sous chef interviews, and even they stay through the judge grill.

I got it 5-5, decision coming...

as much as i hate marcel, i found his menu more interesting and adventurous. I would've preferred to eat his food.

I think, though, when the judges were talking at the end about which chef was ready to be top chef right now and which one needed "more time in the bottle", they were talking about maturity. And i think, finally, the fact that every single person Marcel worked with HATED HIM finally counted for something with the judges. They seemed to chalk it up to immaturity, but there are certain people who are just a-holes and, as a "top chef", that makes it hard to manage a staff and be a leader who other talented chefs will follow.

The post-finale comments he made indicates he still doesn't get it, so i don't think more "time in the bottle" will make a bit of difference.

As for Ilan, he was the guy i rooted for originally, but when he started acting like a high school jerk in response to Marcel, i lost respect for him. Still, i was happy for him. I don't, however, think he's nearly creative enough to be a "top chef", nor do i think he was better than Sam, Cliff, Elia or Marcel. I'd say that group was all more or less comparable, with Sam having a slight edge in experience.

What are the chances that Elia goes the "survivor" route and poses for Playboy?

well i can dream anyway...

Yeah, Marcel was interesting. I absolutely hated him at first then joined his side when the others picked on him. And it was obvious that while Marcel's attitude hasd a lot to do with their hate, even more was the fear they'd lose to him because I think they sensed in him a real talent they didn't want to see come to life.

I mean, wtf was up with Frank's comments at sous-chef picking time? What a complete cock.

As in the first season tho, the chef with more respect from his peers wins the day. I'd have preferred it if Marcel lost to Sam.
